The Dirt Daily Thread

Recommended Posts

I usually skip the Pikes Peak dailys but saw it was the all dirt version so went for it.
13th place is my highest yet i think. Its pretty fun with the dirt physics.

Had a nice run in the Manta/Sweden daily, though i took it a little too careful as i just missed out on 1st place.
Could have pushed a bit harder for sure.

Really really pushing hard in today's Sweden daily with the Fiat. Sadly, a little too hard. Missed a gear, and then I had a couple of bad lines through corners... so my planned 3:18 became a 3:20. Bah. Gutted.

Wrecked owners' daily because the Polo is too easy to drive. 3:03 in practice with a puncture the last few hundred meters though.

Stupid modern cars. Go away.

Daily: Metro, Wales - sketchy default setup. Understeer under braking, oversteer under acceleration. I could not push it. Tried to make the most of it, but disappointed in the time as it could definitely have been a sub 3 minute one.

Owners': Subaru 1995, Sweden - Pretty good run, although I did make some tiny mistakes as the car (again) changed handling characteristics slightly between practice and daily, despite using the exact same setup. Don't know what's wrong with this car.

Good dailys today.

The Metro/Wales one was pretty smooth, the car is fun but i drive it in a style that i drive none of the other cars.
No catching the mysterious barcaa and his fancy 00:00:016 time.
Happy with 5th.

Subaru/Sweden was pretty messy in spots including a clean 360 before the sharp tight left.
Surprised to get 4th.
:)

Daily: 2001 Subaru. Still don't know how people drive this without falling asleep. 2:10 in practice. Really went for it in the daily, as anything slower than 2:09 would be unacceptable... and then discord started beeping because I forgot to set my status to do not disturb. Well... you can all guess what happened after that.

I kinda like the Subaru, lots of torque so a higher gear ratio is a must.
Still can't understand what settings people use to get those blizzard times, or maybe I just suck :)

Having some issues with the Metro, maybe I'm too used to turbo cars...once I got mid stage I kind of liked it though...rubbish time.

barcaa set a time of 00:00:016...either he's found a serious glitch, or forgot to turn of  some really hardcore cheat...

Still the best rally sim around in my book.

Yeah barcaa definitely a hacker. EDIT: Oh, Darren removed him. Sweet! All hail Darren!

Anyway, delta daily - C4 in Finland. Wasn't expecting much from this daily to be quite honest. Wanted a clean run, but ended up pushing like crazy in the daily, regardless. It went well up until the junction with a sharp(ish) lefthander; I braked too little too late and ended up understeering. I kept flooring it though, and got away with it. I thought the hairpin was a mess as well, but I must have done something right as I'm currently leading this daily.

Me. Leading a C4 daily.

Seems legit.

I was having a great daily in the Subaru/Sweden stage today but caught the bank a little too much toward the end and spun.
Angrily i decided to push on to the finish and am surprised to still have 5th.

Was going good in Finland too but another dumb mistake ended too badly to continue. DNF

A lovely stage with an awful car. Or, well.. awful default setup, at least. Fiesta, Sweden. I could not adjust to this stupid handling even in Sweden, where I usually prefer soft setups... but the default Fiesta is WAY too soft. It would rather understeer and then tip over than to actually turn in. So... my planned 5:48 turned into a disappointing 5:52.

Guy on top of today's daily is definitely a hacker, albeit a bad one. Despite my best efforts I couldn't get within a second of him, so not going to bother.

No, its normal to beat everyone with only 107 rallys to your name. Ha!
The guy in 2nd has only done 50 rallys.
Luckily guys who cheat get bored quick, hope the F-off soon.

I had a crappy Monte daily today but had a really nice Wager event. 1st for now.

Look at the dude's telemetry, it's hilarious.

Also, the guy in second got banned on his regular steam account, so he had to make a new one. Still setting sketchy times though - his WR on Vallée Descendante with kitcars is sooooo legit - so he hasn't learned anything.

It's like watching a model train chugging along. With very random application of throttle and brake. :D

Yesterdays Integrale daily was infuriating. I was absolutely flying, got the back end out on a hairpin about midway through the stage and clipped the same spectator I did the last time that Monte stage was used for a daily: instant reset and a 15 second penalty. Finished the stage with no mistakes, but the penalty took me from what would have been a top 10 time and dumped me in the mid 50's.

Fucking spectators!

I did the wager in an attempt to end on a better note after the 037 weekly:
The Escort in Finland. <insert four letter word beginning with F > That car is so, so, I don't know what. It feels more like some weird plane-boat-hovercraft-hybrid, and you never know if will react to input or not - just that it will react differently from what you expect.

Kept the "car" reasonably under control, but just couldn't keep the concentration up for a whole long Finnish stage, so crashed a couple of times near the end. That was still plenty enough for the top tier, so a lot of drivers had it worse.

I thought all that crap had been addressed?

Damn shame....

They come up with new crap all the time. Some are better at hiding it than others, then there are the extremely dumb ones that don't try to hide it at all. Darren took care of yesterdays moron though.

Anyway, dailies:

Daily: 2001 Focus, Monaco - unexpected amounts of grip. I felt as though I couldn't take full advantage of it, plus I messed up one of the hairpins... so this will be an easy target.

Owners' club: RS200, Monaco - ah yes, the car with hypersensitive steering. My setup remedies this to a certain extent, however it is still very uncomfortable to turn with. Took it easy on the snow section, tried to make up the lost time on the tarmac.... whether or not I succeeded remains to be seen.

I actually like the Focus -07, but there's one spot on that map that gets me flying into woods every time...so not a good time today either.

Don't really like RX, but the countryman on Hell is quite fun.

^ ^ ^ Shhhhh. Don't reveal the Wager car!

Had a good run in said Wager without knowing the car anyhow.
Pretty smooth, 4th for now.

Alpine daily in Germany, pretty nice and easy combo. Hard for me to take full advantage of the car. Incredibly easy to drive. I think the time was ok though.

Hot wager stage today, nice having the tuning and shakedown.
Car felt heavier than usual but i kept it together for 2nd place even with a bit of a quick off in the middle.

Germany in Alpine daily.....meh.  18th.

The S4 with default setup is incredibly awkward to drive. It was impossible for me to go fast in it. A crappy 2:18 was all I could manage in practice, and I wrecked in the daily itself. I can't stand understeer.

Ibiza daily on the same stage didn't go much better, but I guess I should be happy for finishing.

Thank you DiRT Rally for changing my default setup in the Lancia from practice to something else in the daily. Had a 3:18.0 in practice with heavy hits, but no way to adapt to the new setup in the race!!! QUITTT
