Whoever who thought that riding Finland in Stratos would be good should be killed :))

First place yet, expect 20-25 seconds better time by Porkie cuz I spinned around at one section

Daily: I kept getting punctures when practicing with the Stratos. I had a total of two finishes. One 6:32 and one 6:28. On the daily itself I had a puncture... so why bother. :) And yes, of course I brake before the jumps...

Owners' club: Dunno. Don't think it will stand for long.

I had a lot of punctures too, but I did some setup changes and put the suspension on soft, it seemed to take some "pressure" (pun intended) off the wheels. Although my experience and knowledge of damper and suspension settings are nil.

So maybe there should be a Flying Finland suspension settings thread?

stratos is now more fun to drive not as hard but that encourages you to push harder.

Well, I re-did the stage in custom event after ridding myself of the daily. Default setup. I braked less for the jumps. Two seconds quicker and no punctures.

So anyone who wants to avoid punctures, brake less. That is all.

You see Ivan, when hold brake foot like me, you shall never break of the tyre because of fear of punctures!

I drove a little, but to me the car became more oversteery, which was unexpectable to me before I started daily. I haven't trained before it. So it became harder to me.

I kinda like the Stratos in Finland, maybe because I didn't push so hard, it was more enjoyable :D Never the less, I'm 52nd out of 1000+, so I'm happy with that. Also. that was with no practice, just went for it :d
Same with the owners daily - first time running a night stage in Finland, did a nice, almost clean run. Too bad the delta times are broken for that daily

Daily, 6:23 in practice. The Stratos is even more fun to drive. My biggest struggle with RWD is acute turns/hairpins and thankfully Finland has hardly any. Practice for me was just about seeing which crests I had to brake for and which I could fly over into a 4/5/6. You do have to be willing to brake a little to maintain your line if there's a few bumps leading into a corner. In the event, I spun out on the first right 2 in the first section of the stage and lost 3/4 seconds. Fought hard and came back with a 6:24.

Whoa that was a crazy daily. You have to be super smooth with the Stratos to go fast (or even to stay on the road to start with). Give it too much gas or steering angle when approaching a jump and you are in big trouble.

I got a pretty neat run from the start and for such a long and hazardous stages did really few mistakes. There were a few mistakes where I failed to approach a medium fast corner without the optimal line but those only cost probably a tenth here, few there. The scoreboard is looking pretty nice at the moment.

Also I must add that I was surprised about the amount of grip the Stratos had. With the reduced downforce I thought the car would slide wide way too easily, but instead it went exactly where you wanted.

Ah balls, missed the top ten in the Stratos by one place...  I'm happy with that!

Are Dailies based on the upgrade level of your own car?  I don't own one so a bog standard run, & would be astonished if there is another 30-40 seconds in the stage with a like-for-like vehicle

8th in the Impreza

Subaru Impreza 199507:33.015+00:39.132

Am I right in saying its a V1 car still?  If so, I have just found the answer to my own Finnish gripe (see other post in feedback).  A V1 car weight allows it to behave as I expect it should over the rough stuff & jumps, but I do agree that the V2 physics allow for more manoeuvre and slip through corners.  If we could have the friction of V2 whilst retaining the weight of V1, then the existing track model is spot on!  In fact, its nearly like Finland was being modelled for V1 cars while V2 was developed.  The two have been packaged together, but don't necessarily work together in harmony YET!!

I've yet to try a v2 car properly in finland, so the weight portion isn't something I can weigh in on yet.

Spent some time tweaking the setup for Subaru and got it tuned down nicely to my liking. The default setup on the Impreza is definitely not suitable for gravel. However the stages are so new that I don't have confidence to really push in there yet so I braked like a grandma in most blind sweeps. Still managed to hit a bush halfway through the last sector and lost good few seconds trying to find the right way. Oh well, it was fun and scary.

Driving the Monte daily today made me realise just how broken the tarmac physics are. It's Colin McRae Rally all over again.

I'll do the owners' club one when I am in a happier mood. :D

What is it you don't like Porkhammer?  I still feel the Tarmac physics are the biggest step forward since the original V1.  The complaints I read about on here refer to instability at speed and crabbing.

Cars do be twitchy at speed, this wasn't apparent with V1.  Germany was like F1, you could happily take an off camber 5 right flat in 6th.  I'm pretty sure in real life, it might not be just as straight forward or planted.  On Tarmac, the only 'crabbing'  I can feel in the car, is power-over over-steer.  You can mute this in the car setup easily with a softer rear and less diff.

The tarmac physics are a major step backwards because the cars acts nothing like they would do in real life. The V1 physics were better in that aspect. Rally cars that are tweaked for tarmac behave almost exactly like a race car, if not better due to their 4WD. They're agile, responsive, stiff. Bouncy. (take a look at the 2001 seasons' tarmac rallies and compare it to in-game replays, and if you still can't see it then you're beyond rescue :P) What we have now is a boat rotating around a center pivot and it killed all the fun for me.

TL;DR - this is not how rally cars acts on tarmac.

They are also constantly moving around on the edge of grip and drivers quite often sweat lots to make it look so agile, responsive and stiff.  I don't care how my replays look, it's driver enjoyment I play for!!  When the car is on a ragged edge and you have to drive it, that's more satisfying than learning a stage and driving it like I'm at the 50cc  go-karts

You're obviously forgetting that these cars do have a whole lot of grip on tarmac, and generally the only way to initiate a slide is by giving the handbrake a tug. Look at this, this is extremely aggressive tarmac driving... and almost no oversteer at all. Because grip.

That's an Active diff Xsara, which would add another dimension to grip levels!

Well, it's fair to say that the V2 cars are too light to hug a jump in a forest, maybe they are too light to grip on tar too?

Weight seems to be the common denominator of the driving issues... :(

The V2 honeymoon period seems to be drawing to an end for the players

Yeah, what to say, subaru, 7th, Fiesta, did not finish :( Favorite stage, night stage so hard for everyone, good car, and what do I do? I screw up the 1 corner I could do always run flawlessly, and ofcourse, tire puncture, couldn't be arsed to finish, I retired.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune Spokster.

Well... to summarize my dailies without moaning about the tarmac physics - the Subaru one went pretty smooth. I think I had a single hiccup on the event in the form of entering a corner too fast and understeering slightly. The owners' club I went as quickly as I dared, but I expect the 2010 wizards to grab 3-4 seconds from my time. I'm just happy to finish.
