The Dirt Daily Thread

Recommended Posts

Daily: Did a couple practice runs and went for it. Got a decent time but it's very beatable. Had some sloppy hairpins.

Owners: Steering on S4 is seriously messed up for me. Crashed at the house jump 20 seconds in.

Daily: 2:38 in practice, 2:40 on the daily. Don't really know why. It's hard to tell whether you're going fast or not when the car is so ridiculously easy to drive.

Owners' club: Possibly the most frightening drive I've had as of yet.

Daily: Focus felt a lot more reasonable in greece than wales and finland where i've previously tried it, but damn those hairpins. Annoying little buggers, got top time but still +1.5s from my PB.

owners daily: Holy crap, im not touching those group b cars again with the old physics. Got a puncture on a random jump and retired soon after.

Daily: The car felt pretty light and I felt you could go faster if you were smoother than I managed. At least I didn't duck up the damned hairpins too badly.

Probably too lazy to attempt owners' club but I might do a trial run just for fun to see how mad those machines are in Finland.

Daily: Fucked up some hairpins still managed a decent time

Owners: Crashed, forget if i did well or not. old physics are a nightmare in group b now lmao

If I don't own the car for the daily do I get upgrades or no?

I destroyed both Focus and S4 yesterday. like a sir.

My driving is getting worse and worse. Time to swap to Need for Speed?

I was trying a new view out in the daily, normally use the hood cam, but moved to the dash cam for a laugh.   Went off on the first corner!  Ha!  Finished the rest of the stage fairly unscathed with the handbrake mapped to the sequential shifter.

Spent the rest of the night trying the dash view out, moved the monitor back from behind the wheel 10-12 inches and find it starting to work for me.  Even the sounds are better!!  Im enjoying the realism even more now!!

Oh, now talking completly serious.

How do you manage to keep focused when you drive in Dirt Rally?

I dont know what is happening to me. Its true, I play 90% of times quite tired (after work, after long stupid stuff days...etc)... but I usually can drive without consecuences.

The thing is, after 20/30 mins of Dirt Rally I do not listen the codriver anymore. I unconsciously start to think about work things, home stuff, family... and its like I drive with "autopilot".

Sometimes I realize I was driving in "automode" and can get focused for a short time... but other times its too late and the car is resting at the bottom of a ravine.

I tried red bull, coffee, slaping my face,... nothing works. I can drive full throtle the first 20/30 minutes and then, grandpa mode.

I do the same, one minute you are committed to the 5 right over crest and the next thing you know, you are thinking about an email that you got at 4.10pm and whether you replied or not & then the big tree happens!

Jari Matti Latvala actually has a Sports Psychiatrist employed to focus his train of thought before rallies.  Quite often on TV coverage, you'll notice him performing a ritual to clear his mind on the start-line before each stage

I usually just quit and do something else when I find myself too unfocused.

Otherwise I usually try to set myself to the same state of mind as before a competition HEMA longsword bout; focused but loose.

Its nice to know that even pro drivers suffer from this.

I´ll not get Psychiatrist for this as my wife would take me to another Psychiatrist  lol she would react like;
"hey, dont make efforts focusing in playing your stupid games; focus in bringing more money home!"

meh...I love her..

I´m looking forward to find some of those "rituals" or methods to keep my mind clear when I´m playing DR

Daily: I believe this is the first daily I've ever done without using the brakes. Haha.
Owners' club: 100% joyride. Some people will beat my current fastest time by simply going around hairpins with their handbrake, whereas I just went around slowly in 1st gear - but it matters little... I had so much fun with my Germany setup and H-box + clutch. The sound that this machine makes is a work of art.

After reading your comment about not using the brakes, I opted to do the same. Two misjudged corners where I had to lift off to get the car sorted, but 11 seconds behind the top. My second best result in a daily :-)

Well, at least my mini qualifies for 5 stars in EuroNCAP crash tests after that 'no brake attempt' survived 5 direct head-on collisions into a tree at top speed. \o/ No radiator damage, too!

I did a test run before the daily just to see how the mini behaved in finland, and I actually killed the car in the third corner by a frontal collision into a tree. The game thought I died due to part failure of losing both front wheels though.

Yeah, the porkz "no brake" technique, although is tempting and doable, cost me a crash into a pile of wood.
Not my fault, but that of Porkhammers xD
I was driving pretty fast but when I was afraid just though "no! dont brake! Porkhammer didnt brake" BAM! -_-

No brake is good, but you need to leave the gas in some points. Thats what I didnt understood though...
No brake ≠ go full throtle all the way

But mini is granite solid and I could just "recover and go" :)
Default gear ratio for this car at Finland is too short BTW.

I find fun and interesting challenge with this. I hope we could repeat something similar!

Owners' club: Not bad. I did however misjudge my corner entry into that square right, entering it too quickly and went extremely wide making the car almost completely sideways. I got it back though, with only 2-3 seconds lost. The rest of the stage was very enjoyable, love the RS200.

Time to tackle the crab handling of the Subaru in monte... sigh.

EDIT: Heh, nah. Not gonna do that shit. I'm going to do something more enjoyable... like cleaning.

Fucking Colin McRae Rally physics.

Went into RS2000 daily with no practice and it was my first run of the day. That was a bad idea...

I really, really, really, really LOVE Pra D'Alart, whatever car it may be, even this.. bit of a boat on wheels.
https://youtu.be/iI6MN8399Jc

I am INCREDIBLY happy with my result. #KeyBro to the max.
5 ABS, Zero Traction and Zero Stability control. Bliss.
(Well, apart from the fact i wasted 30 minutes of practice due to thinking this was Subaru 1995, not 2001 :# )

I was doing so well, but then it decided it would lock up the brakes and have a look what's going on down the mountain, I slit right off a bank in a corner off a piece of snow rendering my car totalled.

Daily: I did a few practice runs, and then just shook my head and laughed. These physics are so broken that all one can do is laugh. I'm not doing this daily.

Owners' club: Crash boom bang, 5:38 in practice though.
