The Dirt Daily Thread

Recommended Posts

I have sold cars for 10 years now.  I take customers for Test-drives daily.

In the ten years I have being doing the job, no one have ever requested that they walk behind the car so they can watch how the car behaves over bumps and in corners while its driving, or if they can sit on the bonnet to 'see what it feels like' on the road, they sit in the drivers seat and drive the car & that's the only way to experience how the car behaves first hand.

There's no right or wrong answer here, as you can freely choose to either use DiRT Rally as a rally game, or a rally simulator, but I believe in 'driving by the seat of your pants' & you need to be in the car to do that.

My point is that it's the most competitive view that gives the clearest representation of the cars actions. If there's anyone who has the best idea of how a car handles in this game, it's someone who uses bonnet cam and their input should be held in high regard.
I need to disagree. :)

No-one persons view should be held in higher regard than anyone else's, unless of'cos, their a pro Rally driver.
I wonder how many of the FIA RallyX drivers that were testing for codies used the bonnet cam.??

Sorry, this has totally hi-jacked the Daily thread...   :o

Remember the Tweet ?  :-

Watch This Pro Rally Driver Play DiRT Rally And Own It

or:-

Hyundai WRC Driver Kevin Abbring helping us improve our FFB

(look at the screen behind his head - incar cam)

(in fairness, the RallyCross boys used the Bonnet cam, but they are track racers, so they dont count :P )

& you need to be in the car to do that.
And you obviously can't do that in a game. You're sitting in a chair in front of a monitor and a desk, most likely in a building that doesn't move around at all.

Games =/= IRL

Talk to me about the Wager Event in the second Daily slot.
Great idea :D Loving it. Not only have you tackled the "rewards from onlines are too small, booooooo" issue, but also made it so we don't know exactly which car we drive till we shakedown it :D
Naturally, there will always be someone who will ask what was the car, stage and conditions on the daily and just practice it before going for the actual run, but for those of us who like fair play, this is a lot more fun now :)

Is it meant to be blind?

The Event is perfect for people like me who want to compete and don't want to spend a lot of time on training the stage/car in custom events, great job on that!

IMO it would be even better if you removed the map and shakedowns, just throw us in there completely blind  :)

Oh, THAT type of wager??

Haha!!  I'm looking forward to that (monetary pressure....).
I take it, if its a blind wager, its not an 'Owners Daily' then and open to all?

Is it only the car that is unknown, not the stage?
Car, Stage, everything is unknown until you accept the wager and start the loading.

You basically set the wager, and as long as you finish at least in middle tier, you'll get more than you invested. Finish in low tier, you'll get less than you put on the wager.

My driving in the regular daily was piss poor so I didn't even let the time upload. I hate driving cars on stilts.

The "wager"? daily... needs a faster way to drag the credits bar to the right! It completely ignored my mouse. Holding right arrow and listening to that click click for half a minute isn't ideal. ;) As for the daily... lots and lots of mistakes, including one where the engine cut out, luckily it was in a downhill section - hopefully I didn't lose too much time. I managed a 6:19 which isn't too shabby considering.

I did not record the replay of this because it's supposed to be a big hush hush.

Excellent point. You can hit one of the shoulder buttons on pad to max your bet, but I don't know how it translates to mouse / wheel. I'll look into it.

Thank you Mr. Hatward! So quick getting on top of stuff!

I did try my pedals and paddles as well, and even turning my wheel... none of them seemed to affect the credits bar. Maybe this helps in some way.
