jarmin0123 17 Posted April 27 (edited) Hello, I have been doing the German track Nürburgring for the last hour and a half and really struggling to get any real improvement on my time. I was averaging around 1.12.5 - 1.13.0 in time trial which is really slow compared to others . I did notice with the practice I am getting much more consistent times, just unfortunately it is quite slow. I am know if I hook a lap I can get a 1.12.0 but really am struggling to do any better. I understand with more practice I will gradually get better , I have recently turned off all assists including racing line ( which is what I had on when I got my 1.12.0 PB). I have put in a clip of a random lap, I did invalidate it at turn 12 but I would really appreciate it if people could view my lap and tell me what I do wrong to be so slow as I want to spend hours practicing to get much better but I want to be practicing smartly and the correct thing rather than practice an hour and a half like I just have and maybe getting into bad habits. Thank you in advance for anybody that helps. The lap starts at 30 seconds into the video. https://gamerdvr.com/gamer/jarmin0123/video/95355569 EDIT: I am using a thrustmaster tmx wheel Jarmin0123 Edited April 27 by jarmin0123 more info
CarlosSantos87 162 Posted April 28 1st place the track is not Nurburgring but Hockenhaim Circuit.. 2nd place mate your setup seems to me not the perfect for that track.. I recommend you put more rear wing decrease 1 or 2 degrees in the front wing to make the car not too oversteer and increase the stiffness of rear suspension.. Try to lower a little tyre pressures as well and try to make a hour again adjusting the differential to fit and let you gain more confidence with the car.. Another important thing decrease the brake pressure too.. That allows you not blocking your front tyres when entering some corners.. With pratice and knowing your car you should be able to gain half a second and maybe more

When entering the corners "slow in fast out" its the unforgetable rule that you have to put in your mind and always use some or somes braking points of the track as a reference

The setup help you gave me hasn't made me faster for one lap speed but for consistency I did 7 laps in a row between 1.12.3 - 1.12.8 which is really good for me as I usually don't have that sort of consistency so will bare that in mind. I do struggle with wheel spin even with the new set up although no where near as much as my old set up so that was really well spotted but I obviously need to figure out a way to adjust my driving style to not lock up as much. Any more advice that anyone else has will be greatly appreciated, not just for this track but to my driving style in general. Thanks so much Carlos your advice has already speeded my learning progress.
sloppysmusic 1,650 Posted April 28 You're actually driving pretty well for no assists, keeping the gears up through corners and cutting them with 2 wheels where possible (and where NOT possible too I notice lol). You could experiment with your setup more but although I understand real world setups pretty well the Codies games use a somewhat proprietary system that doesn't match real life. Toe, the camber and wing might give you an edge but it's trial and error mostly and a tune that gives you a great hot lap might destroy your tires fast in a race! I'd recommend before you start each circuit watching how the pros do it. There is NO better way to learn. If you see something they do that you DON'T then make a written note so you don't forget (I use a chalkboard it's brilliant for that purpose!) Heres Seb with a 1:11.2 (I think!) and the Lewis 1.11.7 afterwards. Notice Lewis is pushing so hard that he actually loses the car 3 or 4 times during the lap but quickly gets it back. Don't be afraid to really push if you have to! If you don't push until you lose control then you don't actually know the limits of the car, and being able to ride right on the limit will get you the best times possible. Good luck!
jarmin0123 17 Posted April 29 Thanks pal I have started watching some of the track guide from top f1 2019 racers on youtube as they seem to take very different line in a lot of corners to real life f1. I just dont understand how they look so smooth and in control yet are so rapid it is ridiculous.

jarmin0123 17 Posted April 29 No assists and using a thrustmaster tmx wheel
jarmin0123 17 Posted April 30 Got to say the advice you guys has given me has really helped, especially the set ups have really helped me keep the csr balanced for consistentcy in races and also quicker time trial times. Thanks so much for the help, if anybody has any more advice it would be greatly appreciated I absolutely love this game
delange93 13 Posted April 30 Hey mate! Firstly; good to see you are using no assists! I think thats the way racing games should be played :) After reviewing your lap there are some easy things you can do to gain lap time. First one is move the brake bias more to the front; You lock up your front tyres almost every braking zone. This will gain you lots of time. Try to let the car "roll" more through corners instead of hard braking-Turning-Throttle. Especially in S3 try to shift up earlier as it gives you more traction. Last advice is attack the corner more. It looks like you are a bit to cautious. Im not sure what setup you did use; but i dont agree with CarlosSantos. Imo your car is really stable. Maybe a bit too much. If you want you can try my setup. I did a 1:11.094 in TimeTrial (steady laps) on no assist. Ps4 with Logitech G29. Front wing: 3 Rear wing: 7 Diff on throttle: 50 Diff off throttle: 63 Front camber: -2.7 Rear camber: -1.2 Front toe: 0.07 Rear toe: 0.32 Front suspension: 1 Rear suspension: 3 (In a (league) race i suggest to use 2-2 for more stabilty) Front antiroll: 5 Rear antiroll: 10 Front ride height: 1 Rear ride height: 3 Brake pressure: 87 Front brake bias: 53 Front tyre: 23.4 Rear tyre: 21.1 Let me know what you think and if it can gain you any time :).
jarmin0123 17 Posted April 30 Hey pal thank you for the advice. I agree with everything you have said, I think what helped mostly with carlos setup help was moving the brake bias to avoid lock ups but also his set up help may have helped me attack corners more as I felt more confident. My main thing is struggling with lock ups so now I have started having front brake bias very low and that has helped me a lot as well as making sure I maximise exits a bit better. I dont know if it is because I use plastic pedals. I will certainly give the set up and the advice of letting the car roll more and see if I can touch the 1.11s yet... I did do time trial on china and baku and beat my best times and then did a multiplayer race online at 25% and won both so everyones advice is really helping with the practice so thank you.

Perfect mate! As long as you feel confident its good, you can push the car more and more 🙂 Make sure the brake bias isnt too far too the front. At some tracks you will lock up the rears and spin out haha. Let us know when you got in the 11's 😄
