Practice pace vs race pace ?

Recommended Posts

In race i am much slower than practice session with same fuel and same tyre wear about 1 second every lap. Are useless practice sessions? I use always 50% races and 50% practice sessions.

That shouldn't be happening, practice is generally much slower because the track isn't rubbered in as much. The only reason I can think of why you'd be faster in practice is because DRS is always available and there's less traffic. Have you tried running without DRS to compare?

Tire wear? In practice they should be wearing in real time (slow) but in a 50% race they wear out twice as fast. Not sure how you are comparing the 2 equally here as in Q you always have fresh tires and minimal fuel, but the only time you have minimal fuel in the race is near the end and your tires are always worn out by then.

Recommend you try a full length race and see if there is the same problem. In the real world race timing is ALWAYS a couple seconds per lap slower except when someone pits last few laps and goes for the fastest lap with low fuel AND fresh tires.

Tyre wear in practice is actually scaled according to race length, in order to prepare a strategy and do the programs. So if you'll do a 25% race with practice they'll wear out as fast as they do in the race.

After the game released they initially had this scaling on for qualifying as well, but thankfully changed this with a patch as it caused you to start on worn tyres after doing just 1 qualy lap (+ out lap and in lap) for the shortest distances.

You're spot on. For some reason I recalled wrongly that they had switched back to real time in all pre race sessions instead of just qualifying.

Is the weather/temperature same?
If you practice in optimal conditions but your race is really cloudy and cold that gives a lot of difference .

i was guessing you are using a practice race for a real one instead of a practice session? Or am i wrong? 🙂

Clear weather and same temperature. With abs on times are similar, with abs off tyre degradation is higher and i am slower than practice pace.

Do you use a normal practice session? Without abs maybe you lock up more. And of course you tires getting worse from battling.
many other I can’t think of I’m afraid
