Patch V 04.1 (Safe to Download)

Recommended Posts

So... As some of you may be aware we hit our first big rock on the Early Access road today and we pushed an incorrect version of DiRT Rally live.

This was essentially our development build containing parts of our Germany update, which is a bit of a problem because we haven’t finished that yet and chunks of the game were missing and would appear broken.

This next part is where it gets complicated.

We’ve now set the correct patch live which is 1.6 GB. However if you had already downloaded the large (and wrong) 4 GB patch you will now be asked to download another 1.6 GB patch.

TL;DR - The 1.6 GB is safe. The 4 GB one is not safe.

Please do not download the 4 GB patch. If it is half way through, paused or stuck midway please stop the download, log out and close your Steam Client and re-open it. The correct patch should then download.

If you have already downloaded the 4 GB patch, please do not start the game, download the 1.6 GB patch and you should be fine.

If you have already played the game after the 4 GB patch and downloaded the new 1.6 GB patch we’re expecting this to corrupt your save file when you try and play the game.

If you happen to be one of those whose save has corrupted please post a reply below and let us know, we may want to get hold of a copy of your corrupt save so if you can make a copy of your save file before overwriting it that would really help us out.

The reason it corrupts is because when you loaded the version with Germany it introduces new items in your save file to check the game against, now we’ve taken the unfinished content out of the game your save file will be looking for something which isn’t there and corrupt.

If you’re having trouble loading the game once you have the most up to date patch please verify the integrity of the game cache. To do this right click on DiRT Rally in your library, select properties, click the local files tab and then press the “verify integrity of game cache” button. If it still does not load after this please let us know in the comments below.

The unfinished patch was live for about 40 minutes, starting at 12pm (BST). During that time our data tells us that a very small number of people played the game (less than 0.5%). We’re hoping that the corrupt save won’t affect all those players but regardless of how many it has hit we are sorry.

Now on to the correct Patch notes for DiRT Rally V0.4.1
  • Save Game Fix - Fixed an issue which prevented the game from saving mid event
  • Achievement Fix – Hillclimb achievements now unlock correctly, these will award from now on but we will retroactively award the Going Up In The World achievement in a future pack
  • Track Environment update – J.McG’s Invisible Towing Services have now removed the invisible Burger Van that sometimes rolled into the middle of the road on Pikes Peak and their permit has been revoked (they tasted like thin air anyway)
  • Online Events – Daily challenges now feature the full fat fully upgraded versions of the cars.
  • Audio Fix – Sent the co-driver on another recce of the Col De Turini and asked him to redo his notes
Again we’re sorry for all the confusion and to those affected, we hope you enjoyed your sneaky peek at Germany. You’ll be able to play a much more stable version soon.

Hugs and kisses

Team DiRT.

Hi @justbiglee  my savegame is corrupt (atleast I received that message when I went in the game) can I send it to you thru here?
And I made a copy of it before going in the game.

edit:
But now I check it the savegame folder is empty this mean I need to restart everything?

Glad to hear that you guys managed to get it sorted, and can hopefully help those with corrupted save files.

Regardless, I'll ask this question here to be 100% certain.

I downloaded the 4gb patch, but didn't start the game. Shortly thereafter, another patch (the 1.6gb one) was downloaded... and I still haven't launched the game. I fear for the safety of my save games (which by now I have backed up).

So... is it safe to start now? Like 100% safe? :) Thanks!

Thanks for the info!
Might be a pity for those who lost their savegames but as mentioned before it's early access.
*resumes the 1.6gb patch download*

It's Early Access tho you signed on knowing that and this will probably won't be the only major issue.

Looks like you not only accidentally leaked content from Tarmac Terror, but Classic Icons too. If it's the case, let's just say I'm really disappointed that one of the most legendary car...Audi Quattro S1 Evo2 is not going to be included in this pack :(

seriously pointing the its early access finger helps no one. its was a fault of the team releasing the wrong patch not cause its early access. im okay with mistakes and issues but seriously. you expect people not to be slightly miffed at one month of gameplay just rinsed away by a mistake ?

also the term early access was done so its a get out clause for whatever goes wrong and can be used to mop everything up which cant be mopped up.

if it wasnt such a time waste or a big deal to redo it i wouldn't even of mentioned it.racing for next month every day just to get back what i had this morning isnt fun or wanted. pls dont troll this thread those that want help not its early access big wigs.

There won't be another Group B Quattro added.

Why do you think so? If you're right, then they should update the one we have, I don't care about this model with the smaller wheelbase and no bodykit, evo2 looks like a beast next to it and it is much more legendary and reminiscent of Audi success in Group B era. This car is the legend of rallying. We need it more than anything else.

Don't think that's supposed to be publicly confirmed. Be careful with any insider knowledge! :P
The devs always seemed to skirt around that one when asked.
Bit of a pity if that basically is confirmation though, since the S1 Evo 2 was one of the two Group B cars in the original CMR and, like the 037, absent since CMR 2005.
In terms of looks, with all it's aero parts, yellow livery and noise, it's easily the car that has come to symbolise Group B.
Of course, there is the very definite problem of over-saturation, but that's an exception I would be all for with #ThatCarEvolved

If you never played the game after the 4GB one but before the 1.6GB one, then you're safe.

Being the brave little tester that I am, because that's what I'm here for, when the first clues to the cause of the save game problem started filtering out, I booted up the 1.6GB version hours ago. The 4GB one was already pulled by the time I got on Steam, so I never even saw it, let alone downloaded it.

As you can see, I've already unlocked a bunch of the Pikes Peak achievements in the past couple of hours.
I've exited and restarted the game multiple times to be sure, my save game is fully intact.

my question.

when will be available the correct big patch with the german stages?
Probably the last week of June, provided there are no unforeseen circumstances.
Timeline only says June of course, but that seems to be the schedule for the 'big' updates.
DiRT Rally - Last week of April
Pikes Peak: Last week of May

You've got a shot. Go into your Steam userdata folder
eg C:\Games\Steam\userdata
You should find a single, numbered folder within that. That's your profile, so open it up.
You should have a bunch of numbered folders, each one representing each of your games.
DiRT Rally is folder number 310560
You should then find Local and Remote folders. One of these folders should contain your save game AND a backup save.
Backup the backup, and then you can try renaming that save to replace your original, corrupted/wiped one.

Provided you didn't run the Tarmac Terrors beta update multiple times, that's your best chance of getting your data back.

here is exactly what you do

go here \Steam\userdata\SOME NUMBER\310560\remote

then right click on the folder to restore it will show you a earlier version . mine was from a few days ago. copy the contents from the folder and simply paste it in to replace. it will ask are you sure you say yes.

then you fire up dirt and your old stuff should be all back to normal. mine was.

MM When I try that it cant find earlier versions.
The solution what Bryskye posted doesn't work for me either.
SO I can only hope that they can restore my savegame then

Awell maybe my savegame starts working again when they release the german pack.  :D

My Savegame has been corrupted aswell, I tried all the new content (won't spoil anything), but now that I'm home again I wanted to play the game but my savegame is completely gone, I hope it can still be recovered, I set my Steam update service of Dirt Rally to High Priority, so it downloaded it right away.

there any way to know which version you have installed? It would not be bad to put a small on-screen text to tell the version you have.

So, just wondering...

The patch has been released and then pulled off, right? I downloaded only the 1.6 GB update to my laptop, and it didn't change the build version of DiRT Rally. Now my desktop, the main gaming rig, haven't even download the 1.6 GB patch.

Is this correct or did I screw up by opening Steam in both laptop and desktop at the same time?

So sorry for the folks who got their profile corrupted. But I'm glad Codies is showing good moves to fix it!  :)
