My Russian Classic GP Weekend so far...

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

hello everyone,

i think i can be considered a very patient person. But after todays experience trying to score a result at this weekend's classic russian gp event i kind of lost it. so here is what happended:

12 pm   everything fine, P2 at grid, decent take off, after half round i get bash of the track, tyres fly,  race over

13 pm   everything fine, P2 at grid, waiting for manual clutch/race start screen but nothing happens, all of a sudden 2 racers take over everyone else and begin their race, the pity little rest of us

stuck in grid position. after 10 minutes ALT+F4ed out of the game (nothing else responds)

14 pm  everything fine, P2 again, race starts as expected some kid crashes me into wall, and after neccessary pitstop another kid finds it funny to do the exact same thing again, rage quit

15 pm  infamous NM14, game freezes to death, no race for little helios

16 pm  infamous NM14, game freezes to death, no race for little helios

17 pm we are only 2 participants on this one, im on P1, looking forward to easy points, but alas in round 2 game crashes

18 pm infamous NM14, game freezes to death, no race for little helios

19 pm no infamous NM14 - hurray! but instead get a mass collision, tyres flying, race over

20 pm infamous NM14, game freezes to death, no race for little helios

21 pm you already know whats coming, right?

really, Codies??

hope this improves with f1 2020 as it has not been the first onlince racing day that was like that at all

cheers,

helios

P.S.: before some good soul tries to enlighten me that i am the problem: no im not - brand new rig, brand new drivers, 100Mbit deutsche telekom connection and sitting on the neighbourhood hub providing me with an average ping of 5 to 12 ms, lots of experience, lots of other online games working flawless at the same time

Welcome to the forums and thanks for taking the time to write a detailed report of your miserable experience. Your first and only mistake was going online in the first place expecting a good time. The game exits for sure you could not have expected that. The appalling behavior of juvenile online competitors? That's normal sadly unless you join a league or get very lucky.

Despite that I DO wish you more luck next time, and hope to see the next post is a much happier one.

(hint.... Play single player! 1⃣😎)

dear sloppsymusic,

thanks for your compasionate and welcoming words. i should have mentioned, that i am a 10times wold champion or so  :classic_laugh: in f1 2019 carrer mode. so my idea was to take it to the next level by trying online modes. its really not like i haven't explored every single player aspect of f1 2019 (and 2018 and 2017 and 2016...). and its not like former online weekends didn't work more or less as they should have either. but yesterday?

i just wanted to share my experience in the hope of generating some motivation for improvement.

anyway - hope never dies!

Hey you're welcome and thanks for the reply! I'm a veteran of single player too but from all I've seen and read (watching twitch online races is very informative!) the online portion of the game (apart from leagues) is really just a bonus add on, not particularly well organized and not at all policed. That's not a knock at Codies as the SP campaign is the meat of the game and they succeeded with that. It takes considerable resources and ongoing management to organize online races for a game that will be replaced in a year anyway. As a long term career player you probably represent 1% of similar drivers online. The rest most likely want a short, repeatable casual experience. If you set up your own lobby of 25% or more things get much less chaotic but you also might find nobody else will join you! Good luck again!

Well the online part of the game it's a hit or miss. You may have some fun or you may have bad or no experience at all.

I think Codemasters should change a couple of things (especially in the weekend events) and fix some horrible bugs (infamous error nm14 that hunts us all, that is talked here

).

Maybe on the other sections of the forum or on reddit you can find other players like you (that play with similar settings) and organize races with them

After the past two weekends of getting kicked out of the race in the first couple laps I pretty much ignored the Russia GP. But, OK I did give it a single chance Sunday night. Joined a session, all the cars on the grid and it got stuck. A few cars eventually took off, most cars were stuck on the grid, couldn't move.

I really don't give two craps about buying F1 2020 unless the multiplayer problems are fully resolved. I don't care about any new game features. The devs should be 100% focused on multiplarer improvements. I mean it's got to be embarrassing when numerous high profile players in the VIrtual Grand Prix series are getting kicked out of the session and their cars just ghost.
