many people look down on auto gearing but look at a rally car now days it is basically a auto anyway.

Well the actual shifting is manual, it's very automated and high-tech but still very much manual - the drivers choose the gear best fit for the corner(s) at hand. Manual will still always be faster than automatic because one can choose which gear to use at all times.

I would love to see one of your stages from the chase view one day

Here it is, still processing as I had to brighten it up with the Youtube editor, but yeah:

Thanks @Porkhammer ! Beauitiful video, I enjoyed that so much, I can really see what you are doing so much better and its so much more exiting than the rotating camera views! Get to see all of your teqnique and speed on display, Bravo!

Nearly a flawless run too, that was a very pleasent thing to watch, so thankyou again for this! I hope you will make more of your videos from this view in the future, that would be fantastic to see all your record setting times in this way, I would watch them over and over again.

The rs200 seamed to be handleing the bumps very well, I usually have a lot of trouble when I hit bumps at speed, car just wants to bounce off in any direction!

Are you running a stock setup in this vid or did you run a custom configuration? Because it really looked extra stable to me.

Yeah, replay mode has all the normal in-game views plus two additional ones: A central cockpit camera between the two drivers and the 'cinematic' mode which uses pre-determined angles at specific parts of the track.
I recorded this one in the replay mode
Thankyou again, I hope I can get the replays to work for me soon, using a "work around" fix I found out about. I really like the cetral cockpit camera too, it reminds me of the TV footage you see, and I was wondering where to find this view, thankyou for explaining.

engine breaking in this game can work i use it sometimes over normal breaking depends on situation in gear. also if you decent it dont really matter if you use manual or auto. i have proved this already.

So you use both manual and auto gears and you are able to post the same times using auto gears as you can using manual? If so, this is interesting, I was thinking that manual must be faster. @Porkhammer insists this is true and I think he is the fastest around. Im wondering how many of the very fastest drivers on the leaderboards are driving manual? It would be cool if it showed that on the posted times and maybe what view and custom setups folks are using.

It's impossible to drive from the chase cam view when using steering wheel... :0 I can't feel where the car is or what it is about to do. So, sorry - that one I can't do!

EDIT: Oh, you want me to record a replay from chase cam? Now THAT I can do! ;) (Paddles switches camera views during replay on the G27 - very handy)

Sorry for confusion, glad to see you got what I meant, and thankyou for the paddles tip.

You may think Im crazy but chase camera is the only way I can race at the moment! Perhaps it is because of the old days on Collin Mcrae 2.0?

I actually get a lot of feel by seeing what the back end is doing, and when I drive cockpit Im always crashing!

But again, just like with manual gears, I am thinking that I am slower because I am not used to it and that I may be faster in the long run if I learn to drive this way.

Only time will tell, but I think its wise to only attemp one change at a time or I might be launching off the side of cliffs a bit too often! So perhaps I will try to learn manual first :)

Going back to this old vid which was made using DiRT, DiRT 3 and even a sprinkling of Forza 4, it seems to me that quite a bit of work still needs to be done on the replays in DiRT Rally.
There doesn't quite seem to be as much variety in the views available.

(Veteran rally gamers should get a decent nostalgia kick from the opening music)

Haha, thanks! That's a lot of praise! I'm glad you like it.

The RS200 is indeed a very, very pleasant and easy car to drive... especially compared to the 205. The downside is that it is slower. I have modified the gear ratios, making the 1st gear less useless and the rest of the gears shorter overall as Greece never really lets cars gain that much speed. I also did some minor tweaks to the differentials and softened the suspension until it suited me better. If you want I can take pictures of the setup.

Thanks @BrySkye that was an epic video! Did you make this one? If so, congratulations on a fantastic creation!

There were so many great camera angles and brilliantly dynamic flowing camera shots, dirt rally really needs some of this! The car rolling looked amazing too, was that in game or pre rendered?

I espicially liked the view looking back at the front of the car and also the tv style view that morphed into a mobile side chase view etc, that was very sweet. Mountain stages looked like a lot of fun too, this makes me want to play the earlier dirt games now, I think I have one of them somewhere but I never played it yet!

The multi car races looked awesome too, is this what the rally cross update is going to be like for dirt rally? Sorry but I am not familiar with Rally cross.

These camera features (I mentioned from the video) are Just another thing to push for in getting the replays overhauled for dirt rally! the other thing we need is online replay sharing available in leaderboards,. I talk about it in detail on this thread
http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/6749/dirt-rally-needs-a-new-replay-system-whos-with-me#latest

Please check it out and post your opinions if you agree, so that the devs can see how important this is to the community, as well as the fun and interactivness and longevity of this awesome game we love!

I think if you guys have a read a lot of you will agree with what ive written.

Thankyou again for this video, I really enjoyed it.

Youre welcome, it is well deserved :)

I have used the rs200 briefly and it seemed to have a lot of potenial but at the time seemed like quite a wild beast! (But not as much as the 205). I think if I tried it now, I would be better and enjoy it more. Yes that would be great to see pics of your setup, thanks

Do you have any other favourite cars?

Nice post @SRS13Rastus1701 , I agree, no need to make a fuss, just make these things more inclusive to everyone and we all win!

Your friend is one of the few females Ive seen that have a passion for driving, and she can obviosly handle a car. I hope she and others will join the dirt rally community in the future

Half of the AI drivers and half of the engineers are female.

True Story.
Which is totally stupid, bordering on surreal. How many girls do you see in a rally event, as pilots, or even more rare as engineers?, 1?; 2 maybe?; simply none 99% of the times?

Rally is for everyone. Sport is for everyone. Games are for everyone.

It's important to acknowledge that some aspects of real life are just bad and should be left out. Drivers getting injured in accidents, for example - I doubt we'll ever see that simulated and indeed I hope we don't. The relative lack of women in motorsport is another unfortunate aspect of reality that fortunately, in game, we don't have to replicate :)

I managed to get a couple of  Group B Top 10 times with automatic shifting in the Peugeot 205, so it's not like it was way slower. But since I changed to manual sequential, my driving style has changed drastically and I've become much more consistent in my times. I crash less and I improved my cornering speed.

Overall setup: http://imgur.com/dqxpaZX
Gears setup: http://imgur.com/Nwrzbo8

Haven't done anything else in advanced settings.

Other favourite cars... definitely! The Escort Mk2, Stratos, all the group B cars, and the BMW E30! The group A cars are alright, but too understeery for my liking.

Thankyou @Porkhammer you are very kind :) This will come in handy, I will try them and let you know how I go, cheers!

I love the group B's as well, and even though its hard for me to drive (hardly practiced with it) I love the BMW for its style!

The Lancia delta is the the best group A car to me, it handles sweetly and for me looks the best too, with just the right amount of power!

And the 60s mini is awesome despite its limitations, I have so much fun with that car! The record times people have set with it are positivley scary!

Also, I am wondering if I can send a steam friend invite to you? My steam name is Shades. It will be great if I can see your times when I race!

I've been around, playing online since Grid 1 launched (plus for 10-15 years before that in SP against the PC/consoles of the time).

In those years online, I've been lucky to meet some incredibly talented female players, including SnowWhite (Who sadly I haven't seen about for a while) and -Ultra-Barbie who were both great assists on drifters. I met both while I was on a mission to get more people into drifting.

A small group of us had many, MANY Grid 1 tandem drifting sessions (Myself, Zappac, Avail and others), We figured the more people got really good at drifting, the more fun we'd have, so we would join a drift session with moderate-good drifters in it, we would scream around the tracks, getting ludicrous scores, pulling 360's mid combo, shadowing people in formation.

Many times we were accused of cheating to which the reply would be "Sit out a round and spectate on one of us, See, what we do and how we do it, once you see WHAT'S possible we can help you learn to do the same, you only need to ask for help :)"

Then off we would go showing them what WAS possible, then invite them to training sessions where we would try and assist people to find ways to improve their drifting skills, things like:
How to increase scores by maintaining the combo for the whole race,
Gudance on the differences when moving from "Assist on" to full bore Assists off drifting,
Sliding between lamposts and fences because there was a narrow gap that you MIGHT just get through sideways in a cloud of tyresmoke..

Ahhh those were Halcyon days....... 5-6 cars on track within feet of each other sliding in formation,,,, Not seen the like of it since.... Sadly.

Might have to fire that old horse up again for a giggle as, nothing since has put such a smile on my face as tandem drifting with some other lunatics did....

Barbie now has over 1700 hours in Grid 1 and STILL going scares the bejesus outta me on occaision :dizzy:
See for yourselves..... This is a vid made by Barbie recently

https://youtu.be/eipd72jWrOs

Here's a couple of her Steam Grid 1 screenshots
1st one she's discussing teaching the other players :)

ED7E8957C60C8AEF79A7827849AB2E257BCB1979 1366768

Better yet unlike, myself and most of us other armchair racers she went on to take her skills to the track for real in her drift car....

https://youtu.be/hajG31VC8g0

Been on at her about Dirt Rally and she tells me it's on her "to buy list" so watch this space.........

As for the issue on women in gaming??? it should not even an "ISSUE!" IMHO. Time to end all this "Gender", "Race", "Creed", "Belief" related inequality and divisiveness rubbish. We're all Human ain't we?

We SHOULD have these (and more) options, if it's possible to add such features, it should be done....
Also, Thanks for the introduction RAS

Hey guys. So as SRS13 Ras. said, Ive been playing GRID 1 for an OBSCENE amount of time. Im about to purchase and download Rally. Hopefully y'all dont crush me too bad. I was'nt great at Dirt2 so lets hope im a bit better here.
Welcome @ULTRABarbie !
Great that you are getting into DiRT Rally

The competition is stiff I have found, but Im sure youll be enjoying it regardless of your position (as am I) and no doubt beating others with your stage times before too long. Your drift skills from grid (saw your video that @SRS13Rastus1701 posted) will come in handy for sure!

It is quite hard, especially at first, but the more you play and learn, the more you will love it.
Hope you have fun with the game and on the forums, I have been learning a lot since I started: driving teqniques, mods, technical difficulties, game features etc. So feel free to ask me anything at all, and Im sure there are many here who will  be glad to help as well.

Ps Thanks for answering the title to this thread, and Im glad that it is a positive answer!
