https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FROLONJoku8   Just watched this, and tho not some of the best footage and more than likely a few missing titles  it did make me chuckle. And also see how far we have come in 15 or so years. Some mental blasts from the past.

It kind of makes me want to install Dirt 1-3 again. But the choice codemaster did that you had to unlock things via career mode................
The career modes are fine, that's how one expects to unlock stuff.
Being forced to drive gymkhana is what ruined it.

To do it once yes, but in my case I uninstalled the game, no save data. Then everything is locked again.

Well that was fun :P
Installed Dirt 1. Menus worked. Crashed when I entered a stage.
Dirt 2, installed. Worked fine. Took about 10 minutes until I could drive a rally stage.
No free mode. Can't select other stages or countries. CBA about that. Annoying "partystyle music" between races and during menus.
Dirt 3, stuck at installation.

Dont forget this one:
Rally Masters (PC / PSX) (2000)

These are also worth mentioning as I didn't see them in the list, been forgotten maybe, but I still own the first 2:
World Rally Championship (PS2) (2001)

WRC II Extreme (PS2) (2002)
WRC 3 (PS2) (2003)
WRC 4 (PS2) (2004)

After that came WRC: Rally Evolved (2005)

WRC II Extreme would have been the perfect rally game if the physics weren't shitty. Some bad notes too but so many tracks and locations including long ass tracks, good graphics, great cars. But you hit a bump in the road you could launch into the air and spin like 50 times before landing and the handling was arcadey and sucked.

Great memories... The cars from Rally Trophy, I just loved driving the Saab there. The hilarious long stages in Mobil1 Rally Championship, more than 20 minutes at night, with fog... The sensation that the first CMR was back then... The great feel for the car in RBR... I'm very glad that Dirt Rally combines some of the strenghts of these titles.

Ah the long stages from Mobil 1, pretty cool at the time but they would become a bit tedious after a while, especially when adding the so so physics of the game. Still a good game that attempted to be realistic.

CMR 2 tho, was great. :) Also liked the Sega Rally games for some arcade fun :)

Yeah, seen that one before. Chronology is a bit off. Sega Rally hit the arcades in 1994 and was the first 3D rally game.
The Saturn port came in late 95 for NTSC regions, early 96 for PAL making it the first 3D one in the home as well.

And Xpand Rally originally came out in 2004, before being released in the West in 2006. I loved the driver damage in that game.

Lots of great memories of Rallisport Challenge 2. Without much access to rallying video, and before YouTube was a thing, watching my own replays in RC2 was how I got my rally fix. I had just discovered rallying around that time, and picked up RC2 to learn more about the sport—the manual and loading screens were great resources for a rally newb. And being able to change your car setup, or even switch cars, from the load screen was brilliant.

I played so much Rallisport Challenge and RSC2. I know these days people balk at rally games having a ghost multiplayer mode, but honestly it was so much fun playing RSC2 online with ghosts. I progressed very quickly being able to race directly against faster drivers.

Rallisport Challenge, CMR 3, and V-Rally 3, those were the games that got me acquainted to rallying. I love this video.
I wasn't able to play RSC2 though, looked way better than the first one. Shame on me.
