FFOman 0 Posted May 25, 2014 After watching my fav race, the Monaco Grand Prix this morning I fired up F1 2001 on my 55 inch screen, and using a Thrustmaster Hotas X that I originally bought for my flight sims, I was surprised to get a 23.2, which is only perhaps 2 seconds off the leaders in the real race with all the new drivetrain and energy recovery electronics that of course aren't figured into the 2011 version! That's the best I ever did!Now a couple of questions. I used to use a Microsoft Precision Pro stick for racing before I got this new stick, and one thing a really liked was the fact that I could use one of the 4 buttons laid out on its base for braking and reverse. For some reason it almost felt as if it worked like a real brake pedal, providing graduated braking in a way I've not ever been able to match on any other stick's buttons! On my Thrustmaster there's not even a button on the stick or the throttle side bases low and responsive enough to use for braking so I either have to use the pull-back-on-the-stick method or one of the throttle buttons which are all uncomfortably high for me! So right now I'm using the #5 or #7 buttons on the throttle side to handle my braking!I know there's very little I can do about this situation but I was wondering if the next version of F1 set up for the 2014 season will first be setup as a sim with all the new changes brought to F1 racing this year, second, if there is anyway a braking control can be made that really provides graduated braking other than by having to use the stick to do so. Also, what other changes do I have to look forward to, and when is it planned to be released?I'm really happy to have found this forum, and if everything goes well in the next version I hope to find an MP racing league as well! But in the meantime I greatly appreciate any response!

Unfortunately we don't kinow much about F1 2014 yet other than the fact there will be one as CM| have yet to share any details I think they're focused on getting Grid Autosport done first before directing their attention F1's way
FFOman 0 Posted May 26, 2014 Well with all the major changes made in the real sport this year, I would guess it's not worthwhile picking up a copy of 2013. What do you think and why?
Andi 7 Posted May 26, 2014 I personally believe that 2013 is worth it because the handling model is much better and the game is just a bit more refined than previous versions. If you play on PC people have actually made mods that make the game like the 2014 season with liveries and driver changes etc.

Andi 7 Posted May 26, 2014 @sjsharp2010Yeah I didn't get into it this year, I mainly just play grand prix mode and do a 25% race every so often with 2014 mods.

I found the AI too aggressive really felt like they were driving touring cars than F1 cars it's supposed to be a precision sport not a bash you off the track sport the earlier F1 games had this right I think with the new tyre mod they put in along with the over aggressive Ai makes it very hard to play Graphics wise it's nice but they need to go back to the 2012 feel at least on the lower levels if they did that and threw a few new ideas to make the career mode feel more complete then maybe and I hope 2014 will be a good game if it's going to be a next gen title then a new lick of paint wouldn't hurt either I don't think. I would suggest the best way to accomplish this would be to put a Beginner level in below Amateur around the same pace the old Amateur level used to be and work from there and just tweak the other difficulties accordingly as I think Balance wise between levels they have it moer or less right (based on what I remember from the old forums before they shut down) it's the bottom end that needs straightening out
FFOman 0 Posted May 26, 2014 Very Interesting! And I cannot doubt your opinion because I've noticed a lot of games have been dummied down by the coders so that they can take an Xbox version and port it over to the PC for much less. Personally I'd much rather they go the other way...build a great PC version first and then port it to Xbox! Maybe if I can find the 2013 version at a good price somewhere I may just give it a go until we see what happens to the 2014 upcoming version. Then I can hook up with a couple of you for some MP!Speaking of which, Are any of you into that, and if so let me know when, where, if you play on a team, if you're looking for new players, and whatever else might be pertinent!BTW...I went back to using my Microsoft Precision Pro with F1 and retired my Hotas X except for when working with DCS flight sims. I was surprised at how much better the Precision Pro is when driving because it sucks if I try to use it on my flight sims. I'm missing the power cord for it's Force Feedback though and so you have to keep your hand tight on it all the time because it doesn't snap back into neutral position.
