Why limited wheel/pedal support?

Recommended Posts

I've been sim racing a very long time and I've never had any issues connecting and configuring a controller...until now. Dirt Rally is the only game I've ever installed that doesn't recognize my devices nor allow me to configure them. Why? What is so different about Dirt Rally, that it won't recognize an ECCI 6000, TSW Speedshifter, and DSD button box? If Euro Truck Simulator works out of the box, why doesn't Dirt Rally? Is this issue due to an unfinished product or should I expect these issues to carry over to the final product. If Codemasters is going to limit controller support to three manufacturers, so be it, just please let me know now, so that I can stop wasting my time.

Indeed, it's always strange when a game supports only some limited set of specific controllers instead of providing universal support for any controller of the same type (e.g. wheel, gamepad). It's totally unclear why support for any specific controller should be added separately.

Controller not necessarily must work out-of-the-box, it should just be possible to assign custom controls in the game settings regarding any connected controller.
