Proper gameplay finally out

Recommended Posts

ISR just uploaded a video how Lee Mather from Codies is driving around Mexico and I thought it deserves it's own thread for a few reason

1) It's not a noob driving like we've seen so far
2) Wheel
3) Recorded via capture card on XONE
4) Legend AI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMEWfWBKuh0

So my impressions:
- The AI actually looks good. Initially I was a bit meh when Lee dive bombed Grosjean easily but then Romain actually tried to hold it on the outside. The next lap he actually outbraked Lee into T1. A bit strange that Lee decided not to cover the inside but whatevs
- They are fast. Lee had a bit of  scruffy laps but generally wasn't bad at all. His S2 was probably the worst. Regardless, he wasn't driving terribly or anything like that. Yet Hamilton was nearly FOUR seconds/lap faster! Maybe we can attribute 0.5s, even 1s to car difference but that's still helluva gap
- Despite the fact that Verstappen and Perez were fighting behind Lee they didn't lose much time to him. That's a good sign
- GROSJEAN LOCKING UP ON 3:39
- The game looks good on XONE and appears to run smoothly
- The engineer sounds a bit strange to me. It's like he's whispering and mutters his words
- Handling looks decent but that's moot point as it's nearly impossible to make a judgement without playing it yourself
- The tyre model looks quite good (expect the inside bit which is a bit meh)
- Sounds aren't too impressive and they don't sound quite right. But then again real life F1 cars don't sound like proper F1 cars anyway
- Slipstream looks a bit OP. On the final lap Lee got a bit of slipstream off Max and he gained 0.5s in S1. And his S1 on the previous lap was mistake-free as well.

What does the red 3 next to Ricciardo's name in the top left corner mean? I've seen numbers there in previous games, and sometimes it's green. I could never figure it out.

Think the red 3 stands for target position? The engineer says "see if you can match third or better" at the start :) Might be completely wrong though!

That's your race objective. Hear the beginning where the engineer says "Try and get 3rd or better - good luck." He's referring to that red number, and it goes green if you're currently achieving it.

In hindsight it might've been a tad ambitious for this race ;)

It's the team expectation/goal for the race (it's also in qualy). The one in the race is based on your quali performance. You get 10th on Sat, the team then expects you to get 7th on Sun and so on.

It's a bit stupid because it's just a script. "You got 8th -> we expect 5th. You got 3rd -> we expect 1st. And so on". It doesn't take into account things like performance of the car. If you have the most amazing lap in the history and you put a Marrussia in 2nd  or just get lucky with changing condition, the team would then expect 1st regardless of which car you are driving. So I find it a bit stupid TBH.

Don't do the whole video in the arcade driving views please.

The whole game IS Arcade.

I have to admit Zombie. Most gamers don't like a game, they don't buy it and move on to another game. You have to be the first I have seen to set in the store and pout to the cashier that they don't like the game.Allthough I applaud your effort in making a second account for yourself on here because of the outcome of your first one.I cant help you.I don't make the games.

Literally F1 2010-2014 with slightly better graphics. Same HUD, same gameplay, even same animations (like the hand gesture when someone crashes into you). Brand new game, kek.

What do you mean "same gameplay",  that's a broad statement off a handful of videos. The modes are completely different, they've added the new presentation style - they have made changes. The structure of a race weekend will always be the same, because that's how it is in real life, but you can see clear upgrades to the sounds, graphics and AI.

I think people are too early to judge negatively towards the game. When F1 2013 was announced and details emerged, I wasn't as pumped for it as I was with 2010-2012, I wasn't even sure if I wanted to buy it. I did eventually though and I am glad I did. It's my favourite in the series so far, I absolutely loved it - I played hundreds of hours. Imagine if I hadn't tried it, and just based my decision upon what I'd heard from others?

Codemasters' F1 games in my opinion have always got the important thing right - the racing. The strategy elements in particular have always been portrayed brilliantly, which has made the on track action so good. In some other aspects they could improve, and I hope they do. In F1 2015 it's clear they are trying to enhance the other areas that were lacking. But for me as long as the actual racing is decent- with strategy, challenging AI, and decent physics, then the game is a success. I've played more of Codemasters' F1 games than other racing games due to how they get that right. I hope this continues for F1 2015.

Hey Codie's please reduce the chance of rain in 2015, I am on a second career season and there are at least 2 raining races out of 3, this is so unreal.

I'm really not impressed to be honest.

The AI look improved but only slightly. They're still rubbish into the first few corners, still don't defend their position and while they did overtake, it was because of slipstream rather than racecraft. Grosjean did outbreak Lee on one occasion, but Lee didn't defend once, just let him go past. Don't think Grosjean would have go past if Lee had defended at all.

The physics from the videos we've seen so far look no different what so ever. I find it very very hard to believe that this game has been completely rebuilt from scratch. (especially when the tunnel at Monaco is still in the exact same state it always has been). There still looks like there is very little to the physics, and anyone who's played any of the recent Codies games will be able to pick up and play this game straight away.

When you announced the whole starting from scratch completely new for next gen a while ago I was really looking forward to it, but everything from then on has been a massive disappointment.

@Britpoint
Are there any actual new lines for the engineer? In the video above there was almost no engineer (just the well known "DRS available", "xx seconds in front", ...). I expected huge improvements to the race engineer since you have this "talk to the engineer" feature. Things like we have in real F1.

Maybe damage wasn't enabled?

And damage is pro mode is supposed to be hardcore, right?

There's also this video too. Lee Mather driving in the wet at Canada, it looks very tough!!

So absolutely no improvements to the damage system. He slams into the wall and nothing happens. Race would have been over in Formula A in Project Cars.

Welcome to Codecrappers.. the place where craptastic games are made. The AI look like crap. The handling IS crap. Lee Mather can't drive for shit either.

To be fair damage is probably turned off in the videos but I wouldn't be surprised if the damage system is nothing special.

Just a small thing and this maybe fixed for the final game but having all the engineers etc on the grid, in the pouring rain, with barely an umbrella in sight.

Well, the graphics look stunning, well done CM.  The AI looks to be improved, although they do still seem to have trouble getting past Lee, thus forming a train.  I have always thought that the AI are too constrained by the track limits.  The programmers should let the AI go a bit beyond the white lines, even if it's only on the first lap. They too should be penalised if they do it too often of course.

I noticed that Lee skipped through the commentary, which is exactly what everyone else will do.  It'll get old real fast (the commentary script sounds very condescending) and adds nothing to gameplay.  What would add to gameplay is some manual control in the pitstops and with a game like this CM should be looking for any opportunity to add gameplay, like keeping your tyres warm on a formation lap, lining up properly in your grid slot etc.

The driver models are fun.  Kimi looks like a dead-eyed sociopath, so CM nailed that ;-P

If there's no co-op this year, or if the SC can't come out on the first and last laps I'll be disappointed.

yeah I assumed as much as the earlier games have this as well at least in career mode

I assume since lee never asked for any info the engineer gave him none. I'd guess you have to ask for it. Seeing as the PC doesn't have this feature the engineer will give this to you at certain intervals in that version.
