Sprint race bad start guaranteed at P2

Due to the bad programming it's impossible to get a good race at certain tracks if you start at P2.  The race starts with you tailgating the AI in front and your opponent on your immediate right.  So front and right are blocked, you have a couple of options:

1) Do nothing, rearend AI and get contact penalty or worse yet crash out and down to the back end of the grid.

2) Slam on the brakes and let your opponent gain at least 1s.

3) Take evasive action, turn sharp right and bump into your opponent.  Your opponent may think you are trying to cheat and return the "favor".  So you end up in a crash or even DNF if you hit the wall hard.

4) Take evasive action, turn sharp left, go off track or hit the wall and lose a lot of time.

So all in all it's next to impossible to win if you start sprint at P2.

Yeah. Just let the opponent get ahead of you and you tag behind him hoping to catch him at turn 1. There’s not much you can do.

I agree.  I just logged onto the forum to discuss this very thing.  I try to race cleanly, and this sprint race start is a big problem.  No good options.  This needs to be fixed ASAP!!!  If you are racing SIMS - JVS #52 and I run into you, its either this issue here, or bad driving by me trying to avoid slower cars around us on the track.  If you have been hit by me, my apologies. I don't do it on purpose.  I appreciate when I race someone who knows how to drive.  Now, if you ram into me, I'm probably going to hunt you down on the track and put you into the wall.  I am a Texan by the way.  My temper does have a short fuse. Y'all have a great day.

Yes. Quite often I feel bad that the opponent would surely “report” me or hit me back out of spite for accidentally hitting him. Esp when they’re clean drivers and your impression goes on them to be a rash one despite your best attempts to keep a clean drive.

Many of my Sprint Races on start are bad. My car stalls at start and my opponent comes "flying by" as madnes and than my car kicks up again and I have to try to catch up, what regulairy results in a lost duel. The strainge thing is that it is not always the case and it depends on witch track we are on.

Are you using manual acceleration?

I had the same problem and had to switch to automatic acceleration.

I find the auto-accelleraition realy s**t. Mutch more control in manual setting 🤗👍

Sprint races need to be reviewed by developers. They are a shambles. There is no winning strategy. Push hard, pushed off track, pull back, no chance of catching up, stay in the pack, get boxed in and cautioned for contact. I rarely get through the first corner.

Yes it does but after losing a load of duels because the manual acceleration wasn't working I had to switch to automatic. It doesn't affect my lap times as I never took my finger of the accelerater anyway.

Is it really asking too much to expect that people playing a racing game might actually want to race???? I am fed up with sprint starts where the opposing car has no interest in beating you to the first corner. Their strategy is to just push you into the wall. You lose time that is impossible to make up and for some insane reason, you bear the cost of the penalty. Why don't people want to race their cars? Where is the satisfaction in this? I repeatedly report these drivers, but for what purpose? It keeps happening. This game has ceased being a pleasurable distraction. It is simply infuriating.

Spot on, sprint races are by far the worst of the three race types because you start side by side at a fast pace. 9 times out of 10 as soon as the 'go' appears on screen my opponent swerves to the side and wipes me out. The problem is this becomes a self-defence mechanism for a lot of players as they've probably had it happen to them so many times and Codemasters have done nothing to stop it.

Why can't they program cars to stay on line, unable to be pushed off the track? Attempts to do this should slow you down, making it a losing strategy as it would in actual racing. Same on corners. If you point your car into the apex, your opponent would be simply wasting his opportunity to outmaneuvre you. Make the need to race strategically and with skill the only way to win. The programming of this game shouldn't even include the option "car A is enabled to push car B off the track and car B will receive a penalty" This isn't mere lack of oversight, it's deliberate. Why? I suspect the answer is that Codemasters want us to think that if we buy more parts packs we will go faster than the other guys. But in my experience, every time my car gets more speed, so does my competition.
