Going from auto gearbox to manual

Recommended Posts

I've decided to take a leap of faith and have a go at driving with manual gearbox. I've gone a bitĀ retro and nostalgic and decided to do this on the 2013 version of the game rather than 2019 version that I have. Had a couple of hours trying manual out and it went rather better than I expected. Difficult first half hour but got better. Usual thing.....for every average lap there were about 5 disastrous laps. In the end I was going round Ā Silverstone rather nicely....in fact I found the experience rather enjoyable. With manual gearing corners seem to be more controllable......car seems glued to the track with less understeer. Yes.......I think that I'mĀ  going to play on with manual gears. More enjoyable, realistic and (hopefully in time) better lap times.

Yeah I switched to medium TC and manual gears and It enabled me to go from 80 difficulty to 100 which was a huge jump. My next mission is to go without the racing line.Ā

You're much more inĀ control with manual gears for sure, though definitely anĀ easier transition to make with a wheel than with aĀ controller.

I went to manual I think in 2017 as I was doing a career mode with mclaren and my ice would get destroyed so quickly so decided to go manual and never went back same with traction control I found I was able to gain so much time

A few more hours spent trying manual gearing......and not only does the car handle better......it sounds better. That gorgeous 'blip' sound as I gear down into a corner......I don't recall hearing this with automatic gearing.Ā

I made the switch a couple of months ago and I can’t go back. It feels so unnatural to drive in auto now, and it’s so satisfying to get the gear changes spot on.
