Choose commentary Language separate from Game Language

Recommended Posts

Same opinion, I have set the game to German but would love to hear Crofty or Will Buxton. I think the common audio output wish is english.

And a crazy thought: Offer all kind of mixing there as it could even provide a educational option because to learn a language it is quite helpful to hear it in a context that somebody is familiar with.

Far fetched, I know but I'm just adding arguments to it 😊

Understandable. There is a workaround to this, but it requires an access to the game files, may cause unexpected issues and is possibly against the EULA of the game. It basically has to do with switching the commentary files to the localized versions of those commentary files.

Looking at these files may give you some ideas on what to do

From a legal standpoint how big of an issue would it be? I guess as long as I don't publish any of that 'wrong' audio footage it's a 'No harm/No Foul' approach?

This is honestly quite disappointing, I was looking forward to the Dutch commentary but I definitely don't want the full game/text in Dutch, I think this goes for most people here in The Netherlands who are used to and prefer English media but still know Olav Mol as the voice of F1.

@issueskid I'm really hoping this is something that can be added in the options?

Yes I can see how this is is major drawback. I don't mind to have the game this year in Dutch but only because it makes the game look entirely new. But I guess I'm gonna be tired soon of the version in Dutch because I already was looking for the language settings and could not find any. Not even to set my entire game to English.

I jokingly suggested last year to do a Dutch edition because of Zandvoort and you delivered Codemasters but I should have explained Dutch culture a bit more. Almost all Dutch and Belgian people are bilingual and also speak English. We don't have dubbed TV or Films. Most of us watch everything in the language it was meant to be. I'm probably generalizing but we are not like Germany or France that will say '"Finally the game is in our language".

For casual players this is ideal but I guess hardcore F1 fans in The Netherlands and Belgium must be fuming. It's like you took the sim part out of the game and only left us with the option to drive in casual.

On PS4 I can't find a way to change the language besides changing my PS 4 system language settings

I have my game in Dutch, but I'm Belgian. No hard feelings, but I do not want to listen to Olav Mol all the time.

Massive drawback for what looked like an amazing game!

You don't have to listen to Olav all the time. He will only be heard before race start and you can skip those.

But then there is no commentary. Please note that for a Belgian person Dutch as spoken in The Netherlands sounds foreign. If the game was in Belgian Dutch you would feel alienated by the commentary as well.

I don't mind for one season to listen to Olav but I want the English commentary back as well for my second season. Menu can stay in Dutch if the grammatical errors are fixed. But others want the menu in English and commentary in Dutch so what we really need is options.

If you change the language of your system you're playing on, the game will be in English. It's not ideal, but it's the only solution at the moment

This is so frustrating because I know F1 made this possible for us to let a bigger audience (even for kids) play in our own language. The games were the past years in English so a Dutch version was requested but this sucks. The translations are like made with Google Translate. And I don't even know Olav Mol because I'm Belgian and most of the time I don't understand what he's saying because I also use my English subtitles. Then I switched my commentary off but that ruins the game as well. They also should implement Belgian commentary like Kris Wauters. There should've been a choice for the commentary as well to change the language like the subtitles!

I hope Codemasters can change this, i want to hear Olav Mol, but i don't like the Dutch language in the game menu.

I know the work around on Ps4 by changing the Ps4 language settings, but it would be better as mentioned by this topic, "choose commentary Language separate from Game Language"

So, i fully agree with this topic!

Well let's agree that Kris Wauters can only do the commentary on the Francorchamps circuit, all other commentary we take the English one. :classic_biggrin: Not a big fan of Kris just like Dutch people are no fan of Olav.

That's the downside of being Belgian and speaking Dutch. We're ignored everywhere. We always have to listen to foreign languages and their vocabulary.

I am Dutch and to be honest I don't dislike Olav. Sometimes he just misses big moments in the race and then 1 minute later realizes something happened. Thats the downside of having only one commentator where the English commentators are in duo's so the chance of them missing something is quite a lot smaller. But the commentary itself isn't all that bad

For the Formula 1 game it is still ok because it makes sense. I don't have telenet so I have to watch it in French. But when it is action games or games with a real story I cringe when it's in Dutch vocals from The Netherlands. In formula 1 it still makes sense to have a commentator from Holland but an American president in a game speaking Dutch is horrible.

Will Buxton should be in English audio for that reason.

Agree to the above.

Please make the commentary language an option in the menu simular as you can select the subtitle language. The option to disable the commentary would probably also be wanted.
Thanks in advance! 🙂

Agree with this! Please make the commentary language a seperate option for the game 🙂

This is a fair suggestion. I don't know how successful it will be, but I've added internally as a suggestion to the developers.

@BarryBL please add volume options separate for commentary and Jeff (and others in pitlane) please.

Hello.

We're in the process of discussing many different audio options for quality of life, accessibility, mix etc... We're activly looking at and listening to player feedback. I can't promise we're going to include everything people ask for but we're going to do our best to improve audio options in the future 🙂

Choosing the overall language of the game on console (PS4) without setting your console in another language would be great. I have Jeff speaking in English but I speak French to him. Weird?

Thanks.

@RS Phil, yes I agree with you 🙂 I've been disussing this very issue with audio code today. We are looking into it though and it's something we'd like to address, I just don't have an ETA.
