Why are classic cars so much more fun than the modern ones?

Recommended Posts

I don't get it, yeah they aren't the same, but you try something Schumacher's F1 2000 Ferrari, and the car is nimble, agile, constantly dancing between slight oversteer, slight understeer...

And the modern cars are a bunch of understeering beasts, with no room to play around the limit it's such brutal difference of interpretation.

I'll say on most sims that contain multiple F1 cars from different eras, you can feel the difference between a early/mid 2000s and a 2017+ car but there's an element of familiarity, Codemasters has such drastically different interpretations.

Because the cars are heavier these days...and have tons more electronic aids in place to help the driver.  Hence why it was a lot harder to tame a F1 car back in the day compared to now.  Quite a few F1 drivers have commented themselves on how easy it is to drive F1 cars these days...with some actually saying F2 cars are harder.

So Codies got this spot on.

Partly the curse of the annual franchise too, of course... they kind of need to exaggerate how differently every car handles every year, otherwise people would just say "what's the point?" and wheel out even more of their "copy and paste job" complaints than usual.
