Custom Multiplayer Car Engine Still Sounds Disappointing

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

The engine sound changes to the official cars this year have been fantastic. But sadly the multiplayer car sounds almost the same as last year, disappointing.

Can a tab be added in the custom multiplayer car menu next to livery choice so we can choose the engine sound we prefer? Or at least tweak the multiplayer car engine sound? As it sounds flatter and weaker compared to the new amazing engine sounds this year.

On this one @TomAAA, although I like the Rocket-League style idea of picking your own engine sound, the FOM car has been approved and has to have a generic sound so it cant be associated with another team, causing licensing issues.

@BarryBL Thanks for keeping us informed Barry, I know its a busy time for you but you always keep an eye out for the details, nice 😎 I think the multiplayer car needs to sound a bit more aggressive and detailed like the changes made to the official cars this year, then it will be sweet.

While i'm here any news on the weather/time of day in leagues or the prevention to stop the car being shifted into neutral while downshifting

At the moment, not yet on your questions I'm afraid. We do have a roadmap that has been drafted for improvements across the year, but isn't concrete enough for me to release details. But once all the chaos has passed a little, I'll turn my attention to patches and updates 👍

Why are we allowed to choose the engine for the "my team" mode without any licensing issue then? It’s also the FOM car or not? @BarryBL

Good question. The name and statistics are allowed, but the engine sound doesn't change supplier to supplier if im not mistaken.

@BarryBL Actually it does. I have checked it. On YouTube when you watch the videos of various content creators the use different engines and have the appropriate sound. That’s why I am little confused why it can’t be on the multiplayer car.

Interesting, ill put my headphones in and double check. If so, then the licence would stretch to MyTeam only and would have been negotiated by FOM and CM, and something WAAAAY above my level 😛

This has got me curious now as to whether the engine sounds do differ in my team.

So the engine sounds are not accurate for each manufacturer you pick in MyTeam it makes the choices in MyTeam a lot weaker and makes the whole system silly as you are not really equipping that engine and as such losing immersion and a lot of the value of the new game mode

Okay, to clarify, done a LOT of checking and the engine sounds are different (Shoutout to my test myteam mode). Sorry, had to dig the headphones out.

To answer the initial question on choosing your engine in MP, honestly, makes little sense from a design point of view. Its a unique feature designed for MyTeam and there's no design and progression benefit on adding it to MP. The agreed FOM car for MP would remain the same, and should be the same for everyone. Maybe potentially for future projects, but it doesn't really "add value" to be honest.

It would also welcome conspiracy theories like "Choosing the Mercedes engine car sound makes you go faster" which wouldn't be overly welcome.

Thanks for clarifying, a bit disappointed as the multiplayer car lacks 'depth' and still sounds flat in its engine sounds in F1 2020, it sounds like its taken from an earlier game it does not sound up to the standard of the other engines and the great work they have done, that was one of the reasons everybody avoided it online in the last game because of how it sounded poor, everybody just stuck to lobbies with official cars. Maybe the sound team could tweak the Multiplayer car sounds add a bit more detail and a bit more aggressiveness @issueskid

Fair comment. Just the official FOM car has to be agreed onto by all stakeholders and is a vital part of our game development. We also have to go to testing to capture the engine sounds, which happens after the FOM car is done. Without it, we wouldn't get MyTeam, Liveries, BETA would be very hard etc.

I’d say you currently have mich bigger fish to fry @BarryBL than a fluffy engine sound.

but everyone can have their own opinion I suppose
