The1nonly1 1 Posted July 9 I never really used ERS in 2019 due to finding it difficult to mage that and the fuel but with 2020, it's much easier to do both. How is best to use it though?
Bobble2020 24 Posted July 9 (edited) I use it to give myself an acceleration boost leaving a corner as it often helps in overtaking another car doing that or if i want to pull away from a car close behind me coming out of a corner Normally then i turn it off again when i hit top gear / approaching another corner or the percentage is getting low Edited July 9 by Bobble2020
The1nonly1 1 Posted July 9 Just now, Bobble2020 said: I use it to give myself an acceleration boost leaving a corner as it often helps in overtaking another car doing that or if i want to pull away from a car close behind me coming out of a corner Ok thanks. So use it for few seconds out of a corner onto a straight is best?
Bobble2020 24 Posted July 9 If i have enough left i often use it till i hit top gear or hit a drs zone
alon11esp 14 Posted July 9 I use the overtake button to defend my position in case that it could be compromised, to have an extra boost at the exit of certain turns (Especifically in accelerations zones, like the long straight in Hanoi) and obviously to attack hahaha. The overtake button depletes a lot the charge of the battery, so be careful. For example, yesterday I raced in Austria with Norris and after overtake Perez, making my battery depletes to 20%, I stayed behind Sainz at least 7 laps to recharge to 70% (You'll need to be patient haha)

PJTierney 4,909 Posted July 9 Here's a good real-world example of ERS usage from last weekend, listen to when the engineer tells Lando to press overtake, and how long. Basically, punch it on the straights, as soon as you exit a corner. That way you get a bigger acceleration boost which benefits you for the entire straight. Save the biggest presses for the big straights.
PistoPete555 9 Posted July 9 Its always good to save just enough for a hot lap on your final lap. See Lando at the Austrian GP for prime example
The1nonly1 1 Posted July 9 Thanks all. Very informative and I'll use it like you've said.
