Scrogs 97 Posted July 15 (edited) When and where do I get them? Do I really need them? I think that I got some when I first played the game......but no more since then. Edited July 15 by Scrogs

XanderSJX 85 Posted July 15 No problem, I see a lot of people still using this part of forum for 2020 so had to check. So, you are not getting any resource points from practice programs and races?
Scrogs 97 Posted July 15 I play mainly solo Time Trial with the occasional race thrown in. I must be getting R and D points and just need to look for them and use them! I will get on the game today and have a proper look around the menus.
marioho 686 Posted July 15 Mr. Scrogs, there you are at it again – widening your F1 horizons! Great to hear! Both on F1 2019 and F1 2020, R&D points are used on the fantasy modes (Career and the new My Team) to develop your car. You'll be spending them on things like streamlined chassis, redesigned braking ducts for less drag, better fuel efficiency and so on and on. You gain R&D mainly by completing Practice Programmes. On a race weekend you'll have 3 Free Practice Sessions, one Qualifying session and the Race session per se. In those three FPs, you'll have a bunch of practice programmes available ranging on getting to know the track better to how to more efficiently deploy ERS. Depending on your performance on those programmes, you'll get a set of points to allocate on the R&D section of mode. It is restricted to those fantasy modes and their respective save files, though. You won't gain R&D for playing outside Career and My Team.

Haha marioho.......I'm learning things F1 related mainly by accident as I go into different game menus and have a read or by the generosity of people on here who answer my many (noob) questions no matter how stupid they may appear to be. I've been basically playing on Time Trial so no R&D there.....I've had a few hours today getting stuck into playing career. Did all practice sessions, qualifying and 25% race lengths. And there, like you are all saying to me, are the R&D points. I don't know what to upgrade so just press the upgrade suggestion button. I've also had to renew gearbox and some other mechanical thingies that had worn out. I've even found that if I press the 'options' button really quickly while the practice menu is on, I can access the menu where I can change things like qualifying type/time length and the AI drivers difficulty. It's all starting to slot into place and make sense. I've just got to play the game as much as possible.....and probably continue asking questions. marioho 686 Posted July 15 @Scrogs Haha most of the things you seem to have figured on your own are part of the daily "how to..." questions I see on Reddit and here on Codemasters forums! As far as I can that's some solid solo flight you've been doing there! You're ok upgrading your gear following the suggested route on the R&D screen. Surely you would be better off upgrading according to your needs, but no need to fret over it now. Go on as you are, take your time reading the descriptions of the suggested upgrades and in a while you'll be able to tell that maybe that other upgrade would be more useful for you at a given moment than the one suggested. Gearbox wear is a real thing specially if you're just now giving manual gears a go. Don't worry, though! On modes like Career you're on it for the long haul. Meaning there is no issue screwing up you first season by taking penalties and driving an unbalanced car. With time and your steady progress these things iron out and the potential difference between theoretical best performance and your actual one will get closer and closer.
