TLH89 1 Posted July 16 Maybe like FIFA or Madden, you complete a test race- 3 laps somewhere in a generic car. possibly while the game installs. Track needs mix of low, med and high speed corners (Barcelona, Spa, Silverstone?) you race and complete laps and the faster the time set the harder the game gets - maybe like the overtake challenge that already exists. As you complete the laps, helps screens appear with what the settings mean, e.g. Traction Control does this - now try leaving the corner without it etc.? Post completion it then suggests a difficulty level for you with relevant assists. also option if a pro to skip this feature all together. Version 2 - As you rank through the game, this then grows with you allowing the game to help develop you as a driver. Corner cutting becomes more stringent the more you know the track
BelgiumDude 461 Posted July 16 They could do this in Formula 2 and do pre season testing. But when I hear dynamic difficulty I think of the game keeping learning and even adjusting the difficulty whilst you advance throughout the season.

Let the game determine your level and advise which AI level is equal to yours. You can decide yourself whether you want it to be easier or more difficult. DC87 4 Posted July 16 (edited) AI seems to be very inconsistent for me. For example, I raced on AI 75 in Baku and in the next race Canada I had to lower it down to 65 to get around same position and not stay 3-5s behind last place. MeduSalem 22 Posted July 16 (edited) I kinda doubt the dynamic difficulty would really work. Lets say I use some generic AI level 50. On some tracks like in China or Sotchi or Belgium I eventually lap even the car in 2nd position. On other tracks like Monaco I have a hard time even outqualifying them if at all and during the race they are kinda close behind me all the time and I can only hope that my pit strategy is better than theirs and that I don't run into backmarkers slowing me down and wearing out my tires because if I did they would overtake me in the pits. And that is not just me being bad at Monaco but definitely the AI being stronger on there for some reason. Maybe better pathing or impossible steering at the hairpin and taking all the corners down in the harbor perfectly which a human player can't do or whatever. It also holds true for certain other tracks. On some they excel and at some they are garbage and they kinda don't reflect the difficulty setting. So if the AI isn't even equally good/bad at the tracks then how would a dynamic diffiulty setting work properly? It would probably only result in even more unbalanced races because if I bash them 4-5 races at the beginning of the season the difficulty would ramp up and then I head to Monaco and get my butt handed to me because it would be even more difficult than it already is because the AI being inherently better there already even without raising the difficulty further. XanderSJX 85 Posted July 16 (edited) Why not something like "Adaptive AI" that RaceRoom is using. It would track all your races, and set AI based on your previous times on track. In your first ever race, for example Brazil, it puts it to 70 for example. In the end of race it compares your times to AI teammate and next time you start a race it will put it to 60 or 80 depending of those previous times. Then next race, it will move it even more. Then you switch to Monaco, and game puts it not to 60 for first race but to average of all tracks you've done until that point. And so on... Or another thought - let the AI adapt during practice sessions. Let's say, you're doing couple of laps in P1 and there would be some AI options like how competitive you would like to be (e.g. racing among top 3 teams or just competing with Williams etc.). Then the game adjusts AI difficulty setting according to your choice and lap time (easy = Mercedes times are like yours, hard = your times are only good to beat Williams). And this setting shall be valid through complete weekend - as for now, I even have to adjust AI to 5-10 points more for the race, otherwise I'm still 2-2,5s/lap faster even if I had a very tough time in qualifying sessions.
