How did things get this bad?

Recommended Posts

We all had great hopes for this incarnation of the F1 series and it seems to have just all gone to the dogs.

CM haven't helped matters at all by not responding to any of the nagging questions asked here and it's

quite frankly hard to get excited by this game... For the first time I am happy that the North American release

is 11 days later than Europe so I can get some real reviews of the game. Two months ago I was counting the

days but now I might just spend some more time with PCARS as there are some disciplines that I haven't even

tried yet... It really makes no sense at all that CM decided to strip the game away and without a safety car I would

not call this a proper representation of the sport... If the sport has certain rules/parameters then they should all

be included in any sanctioned game... weird...very weird.

believe me this game could be a lot worse, I think you should probably wait until you play the game yourself to pass judgement as I believe codies have worked hard on the actual racing aspect and not the features. I agree I would like to see more features but bashing them over f1 2015 is silly as they have clearly had time constraints.

If you look at the gameplay on Twitch the handling looks exactly the same as in previous games. Even the corner cutting and everything else is the same.

As someone who has the game i can say its so much better than previous years. If you think the handling looks the same i can tell you it doesnt feel the same at all. The AI are also way smarter and put up way more of a realistic fight. Sure a few features have been removed but im enjoying it and will continue to enjoy it. PCars was good not the formula cars. F1 2015 is a fun game and if you dont like what you see dont buy it. If say $70 is that much of a risk to you maybe you shouldnt be buying games in the first place as $70 is hardly breaking the bank

F1 games are a passion of mine as well.  Am I dissapointed that there's no Safety Car? A little, but I did 3 seasons on F1 2014 before it even made an appearence at Bahrain.  I don't purposely get on track and cause accidents so I don't think i'll realise it's not there.  I am annoyed about the qualifying/practice options though.  I like doing 25% races (due to time constraints) with Q1, Q2 and Q3 and usually do about 6 practice laps.  But it's something i'll adjust too!  People on here seem to be scared of change?  If you play it with an open mind you'll enjoy it more!  Stop thinking 'what if, if only, but if we had this'.

Enjoy it!  From what i've seen the handling, the sound and the AI all have been radically improved... See you all at Melbourne tomorrow... who will you be racing as?  :p

Can't wait to get behind the wheel as Bottas.

It's tough to hear people say "if you don't like it, don't buy it".
For me, F1 games are a passion, and have been since I was very young. It's the only reason I buy a console.
I sold my 360 to buy an Xbox One for this game, so I have no choice but to buy it, otherwise I'll have no F1 game to play.

Im sure others are in the same situation and that's why there's a huge amount of frustration with Codemasters as to how they've managed to spend the last two years, selling us a make-shift 2014 game in the process, not only coming up with so little but stripping the game back even further!!

You say you have no choice but to buy it...... WRONG! You're not forced to buy anything. I understand you want a F1 game but if you dont buy it the world will still go on for you.

Just out of interest does anyone know which Manor car to expect?  Are we getting the sponsorless car they started the season with or will they be introducing the new livery with sponsorship by Flex-Box down the side pod?  I have to say it's a fairly decent livery and was suprised to see it at Silverstone last week.

Also can we expect a further parch when they release their 2015 car after the 'summer break'?

I appreciate your support for them, but the time constraints thing just doesn't wash. They have most of the year, and last year didn't bother with a patch (or a half decent game for that matter) so that they could focus on 2015. Now its here and has just been stripped of features.

Time constraints just isn't a valid excuse.

hi all , heres my opinion , having got the game yesterday , done a few quick races and tinkered with the settings a bit , to be honest its not as bad as people are making out , the graphics arnt great for next gen , the sound needs patching , the engineer is too quiet ( see my other post) but on the plus side the ai so far are more aggressive and i must say the handling is quite good , im running a T300 with ferrari rim.
i think a much needed patch to sort out the innevitable bugs and faults and we ll have a half decent game.

How long do you think it takes to make most full price titles? It's usually more than two years, and usually with bigger teams than Codemasters have, and often those games still are still pretty average at best.  Just because CM had what feels like a long time to us, doesn't mean they weren't time-constrained.

It takes more than two years to build a game from scratch. But that's not the case for sports games like FIFA, PES, NHL, NBA, ... They have build their base frame long time ago. Also CM did this when they announced F1 back in 2008 and released their first game end of 2010 (which was based on the Dirt games btw. but anyway). From this point on, no matter if it's Fifa or PES they just update there engine, even if it's a complete new generation. They don't have to start from a white paper and that's why you can't compare a sports game with a complete new game.

I don't think there are many brand new games any more. 90% of games no matter what work from a base of existing engine or game. Another codies example is operation flashpoint. Felt like FPS in dirt game because that's exactly what is was. Star wars battlefront is just a large mod of battlefield 4.

Yes but e..g it's still even more work to make Watch Dogs out of the Assassins Creed engine or Last of Us out of the Uncharted engine than to just "update" the FIFA, PES or F1 engine. Therefore 2 years is more than enough to even make a proper game. Nobody expects a masterpiece but just a proper game.

it's time and budget. Sports games are at a disadvantage with having to both pay big money for licensing and then being required to have a game out each year, like fifa, nfl, nba, etc. Sports games routinely lose features with new generation versions like this as they focused on the engine and foundations first. F1 2016 will presumably be more featured as they simply have more time to add on to the base now.

What's a proper game, out of interest?

I played 2010 and 2011 so not sure about those after.  If you quickly google f12012 though the first video that I clicked on via you tube was about some guy moaning and ripping it a new one. Hes driving around Monaco and moaning the track is too bumpy and the car(s) are bouncing off the Armco like they are invincible, and they are! Its pretty awful in terms of realism seeing this clip alone.

All I am getting at is, lets give the game a chance before labelling it. I`m sure it could be better but I`m sure someone like minded could also say viewing 2012, that's not "proper".

F1 2012 was their best game. They got many things correct like the tire wear, AI strength, and so on.
It was not perfect, for sure, but it was definitely their best game.

I can understand your frustration i to bought a ps4 + t300 + f1 rim but it is what it is, you either buy or don't buy. Alot of people complained, we can't see other cars on track in practice, its in, we can't watch from other drivers view, its in, no online practice, its in so its not all bad for some people, they can't please everybody. TV replay cams, that's been a big issue on this forum there is some issues from what i've seen on twitch lets see what the patches do. Fingers crossed.

And another letdown: AI is still imbalanced. Watching aarava's footage shows that the AI is pretty strong in Melbourne and very weak in Malaysia quali.
Build up from scratch. Yeah, CM, are you f*cking serious?

What they've done is spending their whole resources on the cutscenes. They are actually nice to finally say something positive.

There's lots of things that seem to be from the previous gen build. Either they're lying or they're making all the same mistakes.
