F1 2015 Seasons

Recommended Posts

We’re only one day away from the launch of F1™ 2015 in the UK and Europe! This is the final stretch and you’ll all soon be racing wheel to wheel as part of the 2015 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™!

We recently sat down with Principal Games Designer, Lee Mather, to give us a brief rundown of the new Championship and Pro Season modes available in F1 2015. Take it away, Lee:

Hi there! Today I’m really pleased to bring you some more news about the different season modes playable in F1 2015.

Championship Season:

Taking full advantage of our new broadcast style presentation, with session introductions voiced by Sky Television’s David Croft and Anthony Davidson, Championship Season places you in the position of any one of the drivers of the 2015 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™.  Championship Season allows you to experience the build up to the race session by session just as it is when you’re watching it on TV, with commentary relevant to how your season is progressing and camera crews mingling amongst the teams both in the garages and on the grid. This level of detail also extends to the pit crews who were motion-captured from a real world team in full outfits holding genuine wheel guns to allow us to get the movement 100% correct.

This new broadcast style presentation also extends to the new cameras available in replay and spectator mode.  With the increase in detail to the game environment we've been able to mirror the kind of camera shots we’re all used to seeing on a race weekend. Oh, and there are also podium sequences, did I mention those?

On the track we’ve also got a new Race Engineer, who not only sounds amazing, but is also fully interactive via Kinect on Xbox One and on PlayStation 4 with any compatible microphone/headset.  Being able to ask your Race Engineer questions about what’s going on around you really adds to the immersion and helps to strengthen the fact that you aren't just on your own out there; you’re part of a team.

None of this would have been possible without us taking the huge step to move to an entirely new engine, built from the ground up to make the most of the latest consoles.  New render tech, physics, tyre model, particle effects, lighting, weather, force feedback and sound are just some of the areas which are vastly improved upon in F1 2015.

And for those of you who really want to Race like a Champion we've also included a whole new level of challenge…

Pro Season:

This is purely for the hardcore amongst you.  With all three Practice Sessions, Qualifying and 100% race distance, Pro Season is the ultimate challenge.  Driven only in cockpit view, the OSD is switched off and the player only has the information on the wheel and from their Race Engineer to rely on.  Full Rules are also in place, and Flashbacks are disabled.

F1 2015 will release in the UK, Europe and Australia on July 10th, North America on the 21st and Brazil on the 24th.

This explains why we can't race as ourselves I guess. I'm not really bothered to be honest. Can't wait to get my hands on it. I'll be digging the Kinect back out of the box as this is probably the only game I've got which utilises it. I remember lots of people wanting more detailed information on what's going on around them back in the F1 2010 days so that's a useful addition. I'm a fan of the broadcast presentation. This video shows it off well:-

Could you make the options we have in Quick Race Mode (mix and match of training length, qualifying format & race length) available for Championship Season? Also: all FP Sessions are available in Pro Season, so why not in Quick Race & Championship Season?

I have a couple of questions that you won't want to hear nor answer but I'll ask him anyway

1) Don't you think it will become repetitive? I've seen couple of youtubers doing careers and the cutscenes in the first couple of races are the same. I definitely see the cutscenes being skipped by everyone who has played more than couple of seasons
2) Don't you feel there is a distinct lack of progression? The performance of the cars will always be same. You can play 5 season in a roll with the McLaren and on each of them the Merc will be the best and the Macca will a midfield team. After the ending of each season is like starting from scratch.

I get that you didn't have time to implement career but come on. It's basically the same thing over and over again. Do you think that's enough for the next 12 months? At least the development team could have put some work to make it as a flowing career - you start with the McLaren, you finish 5th in the WCC, the car improves in the next season and so on. And by year 3 or 4 it's a front running car battling it out with the Mercedes.

I would have to agree with your first point about the cutscenes :/
I wouldn't worry about the cutscenes becaus e we all know it will be cut out just like F1 2010/11 live the life give it by 2017 and it will be gone and something else will replace it.

i dont think so, i think the big picture is that codemasters is try to implement a real carrer mode, from classic to now, the beginning was 2013,with its classic content in this years iteration they test the functionality switch between seasons(cars, names, tracks, etc.) 2014 / 2015.
in future iterations the "live the life" coverage will have a comeback i think. and i think we will get a game that from there on will have al past seasons included and gets an every year update. i will pay more than full prize if this comes true. :-)

Yeah, and I've also heard Codies will start paying us 50 quid each per month to play the game. And by 2020 they'll send us Senna's 1989 McLaren-Honda which we can drive around a track.

I like the new seasons mode because of the new broadcasting elements. Hopefully it is more fleshed out this year.

Please try to incorporate career mode next year.

Pro season seems broken, at least for me and a few others on PC, where all assists are on and can't be turned off obviously. Even the virtual racing line is stuck on

Edit: Saw a tip of creating a new save file, first time didn't fix it but trying it a second time got it all turned off for me, just in case anyone else has the issue.
