What i mean is, if Spain is a weak track for you and your normal difficulty would 75 for example, you would be nowhere near Hamilton. So you have to lower it to 50 to get near. On other tracks you are better and you realize 50 is to low, because it's calculated by a personal weak track. That's why i proposed to test Silverstone and Bahrain too.

I mainly set the difficulty by running tests in Melbourne. I think it's an average track for me and AI. This means i will be maybe a bit better in China or Austria (AI weak tracks) and worse on tracks like Silverstone, Bahrain or Spain (strong AI tracks).

Codemasters is trying to blame a problem on the users, nobody is stupid enough not to find the right ki for themselves, the problem is simply that the AI at Codemasters has been strong on various tracks for years.

And the qualifying times are scripted when you skip

You refer to skip also as the fast forward function? Or only when exiting the session before it's end?

ok so your saying run an F2 race , and do the Qualiy test ? then use that as the basis for the F1 experiance ? if so on what track ?

Actually there's an issue going on where all AI drivers start F2 races with an unnecessary huge amount of fuel compared to our car. Between +8 and +10 extra laps. So the races are so easy even in 100 difficulty, as I'm playing in my full F2 season career.

But qualifying and practice are tough. They don't carry this extra weight.

So at this moment F2 isn't a good place do test, unfortunately.

i´m always played without any assist on g27 wheel

in release version 1.03 i´m played on 82% of difficulty, with patch 1.05 i´m changed to 90%, and now on 1.06 im changed again to 95%

i don´t know why but i feel the car more easily (unrealistic) to drive, because on 1.03 version the car are more heavy and bad in corners, on 1.05 are way better but need a minimal care with traction and abs, but on 1.06 looks arcade mode

i checked 3 times on menu if i really disabled all assists because now on 1.06 looks like traction control and abs enabled, its very very hard to lockup tyres and spin out losing traction

Yeah difficulty is quite annoying. In quali, 92%, driver career Williams. I outpace Russell by 1.1 seconds in quali. Then in the race, in patches, he's lapping nearly a second quicker, then in other patches throughout the race, Im lapping nearly a second quicker. Same tyres. So not sure what is going on but the AI is quite strange. Hope someone can shed some light here. AI is the most important aspect of the game for me

Man. I play on a pad with no assists on the Ps4 and I do 50% races. I play on 105% difficulty. I have done two Grand Prix mode races as Bottas in Spain for practice for My Team, and I can tell you that the ai were ridiculously fast and consistent throughout the race. I decided to let the Red Bulls, Ferraris and Hamilton pull out a 3 second gap ahead of me to get decent data. Once that happened, and I started to push, my goodness, they were insane. We were all on Medium tyres, and their lap times were consistently in the 1:19.5-1:19.8. I could do 1:19.8-1:19.9 consistently, but I had to sweat it out. This remained the case for 16 laps, and we had no tyre degradation. Somehow we were able to push hard without worrying about the tyres. In the second half of the race, when we were all on hard tyres, they were doing 1:18.5-1:18.8. I could do those lap times, but I would have to be perfect every lap. What was worse, was that by lap 27, they were doing 1:18:0-1:18.3 with Hamilton doing one lap in the 1:17.9.

The ai at Spain are crazy. We were almost doing league racing pace not too far off the top players, and if this is what it takes to beat the ai at Spain, then this is crazy. I saw Silverstone ai could also be harder than Spain and possibly Suzuka.. This was the first time I had problems with the ai speed. Crazy.

Agree, Ai in Spain is ridiculous, at 105% their speed and consistency are insane, through the whole lap there's not a single weakness like they usually do have on most other tracks at the same difficulty settings. Even when you have fresh rubber while they have old, and you could see them sliding on exit, they somehow still manage to maintain a pace where you could barely keep up.

I just did one race there at 105% last night and my fingers now hurt like hell (controller), a bit too much imo.

Here’s the difficulties I tend to run at each track. I’m pretty settled on these.

In the format of Q-R or just the one number if I don’t change it between the two.

Australia 91-93

Bahrain 96-97

Vietnam 94-95

China 94

Zandvoort 96

Spain 92-94

Monaco 103-101

Azerbaijan 101-102

Canada 104

France 95-97

Austria 98-101

Britain 93-95

Hungary 89-91

Belgium 98-100

Monza 104

Singapore 90-92

Russia 98-100

Japan 91

Usa 95

Mexico 97

Brazil 98-100

UAE 100

So yeah, Monaco for me is a bit of an anomaly it seems. And **** Hungary and its final sector.

I’m driving on level 79 and my story until now with the game is good.

Often drive McLaren on Grand Prix mode and career mode, so I’m aware that the car shouldn’t be winning, but fighting to be the best of the rest.

On FPs, Qualis and Races it is the same, always fighting to get a 7th place, with luck I get a 6th or a 5th on race with strategy and some luck (accidents or drivers ahead getting punished on race grid).

Just raced last night a whole weekend in Spain in Career Mode. Drive the FP2, FP3 Quali and Race, one after the other. Took me some good hours. Results: 7th place FP2. Best time 1:18,700. 6th place FP3. Best time 1:18,300. Quali 7th Place. Best time 1:18,100. Pole time: 1:17,100

All times ahead were from Mercedes - generally 1s ahead, on FP2 the difference was 0.6s (low difference); Red Bull with Verstappen 0.2/0.4s behind Mercedes.. The Ferraris.. 0.5/0.7s Behind Mercedes.. and Albon 0.9s behind Mercedes.

All times behind were really close.. Sainz always 0.1/0.2 tenths behind.. Racing Points and Ricciardo were floating from 0.1 through 0.4 behind. The Alpha Tauri’s was just behind with Ocon Renault in the middle of them.

I was ahead Vettel on FP3, since seems he had some issues and solely drove few laps with hard compound.

Started Race in 6th (Bottas punished 10 grid places). Was so lucky on the race start, that I found myself at 1st place after second turn. From this point, Verstappen, which turn to be 2nd begins to fight with me so hard that he ran into the back of my car on the hairpin at Turn 10 and got some damage in his front wing. Lucky again, he went to the pit. Now I got leclerc behind and also furious driving. His car is super fast and I can’t defend myself too much. Just heroic two laps after, lose position just before Turn 1. Hamilton came and we fight also 2 laps.. I knew that it was matter of time, but box called just before. Back in the back of the grid (17th), now with medium compound. Russell ahead, Latifi behind and Verstappen after. Easy overtakes of me and Verstappen, and we were fighting with all cars ahead that did not stop yet (Giovinazzi, Both Alpha Tauri and Renault, Raikkonen and Pérez). After something around 10 laps, we passed all them and with the box strategies concluded for the first stint we were now in third (Behind Hamilton and Leclerc), just ahead Vettel. Vettel was 5s behind and begins to cut this difference by almost half second per lap. We was way faster, but we share the first and second turn, I was outside of Turn 1 and inside Turn 2, but now we have the long Turn 3 and I’m bit ahead but outside again. Full throttle, in my line, giving all inside space, and Vettel lose some grip and go a little bit outside. His left front tyre touch my right rear one and we lost control, my car had shaken a lot, almost spin but could save. Vettel, spinned and slightly touch at the wall losing Part of the front wing.

He had to pit to change and after some laps retired with mechanical issues.

Sainz was behind me (5s) followed by Stroll. Verstappen and Bottas lost so much time trying to pass the middle tier cars and are behind them. I could easily open 2/4 tenths per lap from Sainz.. open almost 10s. Then Verstappen and Bottas passed Sainz and Stroll. But now, with only 6 laps remaining I was way ahead and 3rd place was achievable. They finished 9s behind me.

So, my opinion is that, apart of Ferrari over strength, I could fight to be the best of the rest with McLaren. However Mercedes, Red Bull, especially Verstappen and the Ferraris are faster than me. Albon is racing just like as real life, sandbagging. Haahhaha

My teammate always are close Behind or a little ahead, and Racing Point’s and Renault are the cars that used to fight with me. Alpha Tauri, Haas, Williams and Alfa Romeo are always behind and I could easily handle with them on races.

That’s a problem I have too. It has always been in past games that if I setup my difficulty for qualifying and race, that the practice programs become too hard to complete.

Now this year this is also the case, with the difference that I think they tried to fix the problem that the AI were always faster in qualifying than in the race by making the AI faster in the races this year. But it seems to me they overdone it, cause in my MyTeam carrier it’s often the case that I qualify way too high (top 10) and than in the race my lap times are way slower that the AI. Had a GP where I outqualified my teammate by 3 seconds and in the race he was almost 2 seconds a lap faster that me.

To make things worse it seems the AI are very inconsistent from track to track. Like on some tracks I am way too fast for my cars performance and on others I am seconds off pace. I accept that I am better on some tracks than on others, but it shouldn’t be by multiple seconds per lap.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy almost everything about this years game a lot, but I just want to set my difficulty ONCE and have generally realistic results.

I'm the opposite, If I qualify 20th I'll often still finish in the top 10 lol

Also, I won mexico in my first season, when most of my other finished were between 8th and 15th lol. So not sure if I am just exceptionally fast there compared to other tracks or if the AI under performs.

It was not an easy win, but still lol.

I’m like that on Austria track. Usually AI is around 63 but had to put it on 80 and got pole with 1:03 by about a tenth from bottas. I think I come 2nd in the race. If I put 80 on any other track I’d be stuck at the back trying to keep up.

What i’m seeing here, is that we’re all stronger or weaker at different tracks.

That tells me it’s not an AI issue at all, it’s down to our own strengths and weaknesses at different tracks. Also influenced of course by setups and driving styles/preferences.

That is true. Singapore track I put difficulty to 35 and still lost. I have struggled with the layout of that but did get more familiar with it in the race so difficulty will go up when I’m on it again in season 4. Once you get more familiar with those tracks you struggle on then eventually them times will start dropping and the difficulty needs increasing unless it’s Monaco in which case I just sim it because I really hate the track with a passion.

So far in my experience of doing 1 race weekend in almost all the tracks in career mode I've found the AI on lvl 90 like this:

Hungary/Russia/Mexico/Abu Dhabi - Too easy

Australia/China/Holland/Spain/Canada/Austria/Belgium/Italy - Perfect

Bahrain/Britain - Slightly too challenging

Vietnam/Monaco/Baku - Very difficult

Rest of the tracks I've yet to drive.

So for example Spain I qualified a tenth behind my team mate and in the race it was raining but I was keeping up with him but not getting close enough to attack but eventually he retired with a failure. It's possible that the AI is easier in constant rain here because a lot of people seem to find Spain too difficult yet that wasn't the case for me at all.

Running some tests to determine difficulty for myself and you can see at Spain in particular, there has been a massive jump just in Qualy speeds alone.

F1 2019 - 90% difficulty

Pole: 1:19.483

F1 2020 - 90% difficulty

Pole: 1:17.074

That's nearly 2.5 seconds jump!

Whereas looking across the rest of the Calendar, Canada for example remains a 1:10.4 pole lap on both games

Typically there's about a 1 second jump, except Spain as above.

Qualy difficulty tests if it helps anyone:

@philappleraily Interesting, I haven't spent too much time in My Team.

These times are from running qualy sessions in grand prix mode at the various difficulties. So very interesting that it would increase to that extent in My Team!

Should be notes the times above are significantly faster per difficulty than 2019 already.

I imagine of course increases in My Team will be due to development of components throughout the mode, I wonder that the caps are on times!!!

This is in career, not in my team, but anyway the performance are different from the GP mode and they are gettin better and better. In season 1, I was able to set the times of last year season 3 with the same car. IRL cars are also much quicker too.

ok look I dont get this , I tried the Ai test as per the vids and recommendations , I did Bharain and spain , based on my qualiy times with Bottas against hamilton the Ai should be around 60 . I had already started my team and the next race was China , so I put the ai at 60. I qualified 6th . Thats not right is it for a car thats had one power upgrade , i just cant get this right. Sigh.

From what I've learned so far using TC (at least medium) makes the difficulty much harder on slower tracks like monaco or azerbaijan.

The AI makes almost no mistakes and have a much higher acceleration out of slow corners compared to people who is using TC.

I cannot in any way play without TC, playing on an xbox gamepad and its almost impossible for me to accelerate less than 50% and not spin. I try to be as gentle as i can and the trigger still goes 80-90%, even using a higher controller linearity.

its all over the place for everyone.

Honestly? I feel the only way to adjust this is forcing people to do 3-5 laps on a training session and adjusting difficulty based on performance.
I'm very annoyed of changing difficulty every single track for every session (qualify is ridiculous, just did Monza, qualified at 90% on 19th, at race 92% finished 7th), and if i make a single mistake on "this track i believe AI is stronger" i may end up winning with a williams.

I use pad without assist and 105% AI, it's very difficult at the beginning (I almost gave up at some point) but you'll get used to it after some practice, try to time you acceleration with gear changes, flexibly change into higher gears and don't use ERS too soon and straighten up your wheel (analog stick) smoothly at exit.

Could you elaborate on that? The ERS and smooth straightening parts are clear enough, but gear shifting and throttle application are topics that I'd love to learn more about.

Hard to put it into words, but I usually base on the level of vibration feedback coming from the throttle trigger, then apply my throttle and up-shift accordingly (Your thumb will start shifting up as soon as you feel the tire breaking traction, or stay in gear when you feel they could take the abuse...It'll become a second nature)

One interesting part is that, sometimes running lower gears which then you shift later than usual (at high rpm) actually eases the wheel spin and made the car more controllable coming out of the corner. I do this in wet condition a lot, may be it's because the engine is more sluggish at low rpm, which results in less flexibility on controlling the torque output. Avoid disengaging the throttle completely when you feel the wheel spinning, try to stay on the throttle and only by adjusting the amount instead, you don't want to shift the weight too much.

Able to point and position you car properly (straighten up earlier) which reduces the amount wheel application (turning) while exiting will also help.

Everything is linked and needs to work together, can't just focuses too much on one aspect.
