Can't choose my T500 steeringwheel on PS4

Recommended Posts

For my birthday a got the game "F1 2020" for the Playstation 4.

Enthusiastic i ran the game, and wanted to setup my steeringwheel

Now the problem is that my Thrustmaster T500 steeringwheel is not listed in the game to select, no steeringwheels at all in F1 2020 for the PS4.

I have updated the software for the Thrustmaster T500, but that didn't help either.

A youtube movie showed me the game and the page where to select my steeringwheel, and there were a gazillion wheels to choose from, but not in my game.

I think i've searched everywhere on google and this forum how to fix this problem, but i came up empty.

Is this a known issue? and is there a user on this forum who can/will help me out to fix it so i can enjoy racing F1 2020 with my Thrustmaster T500 wheel?

TIA Racers

Have you used the T500 wheel with any other games on you PS4? I didn't think it was compatible with the PS4, rather than this being a game issue.

The T500 should work with F1 2020.

It is listed:

I am wondering, if you connect the wheel to the Ps4 with the Usb cable (and power cable is connected), does your wheel make the start turn around?

After that, you will need to press the start button on your wheel. Did you do that?

Dont forget to press the PS button after that! This is what it says on the manual  read it carefully:

On PlayStation®4, with the USB sliding switch (5) in the PS4™ position: * Don't forget to press the racing wheel’s PS button (8) in order to be able to use the wheel. * The wheel is recognized in most games as a T300 RS wheel. * The wheel is functional in compatible games and in console menus.

H, thanks for your response.

I have the Wheel and Shifter on a hub and then connected to the left USB port of the PS4 (the right port is used for my external 1TB USB drive)

I don't have the manual your referring to, but i will search for that.

Thank you very much for your support so far.

Just had a more thorough Google...

I see that despite not being fully compatible with the PS4 there are lots of driving games that do work with the T500, based on list in Game Settings section in link below. F1 2020 isn't on the list but then the game is fairly new.

https://support.thrustmaster.com/en/product/t500rs-en/

The list you are referring to isn't an updated list with all the latest games.

Here is the Thrustmaster T500 mentioned

Have you tried removing the shifter and the hub and connect your wheel directly to the PS4? Switch on your wheel after the PS4.

Sorry to bother you again, but still i can't get the wheel working.

When i start the PS4 the wheel turns completely to the left, and then completely to the right, and then left again to center the wheel.

The wheel steers very heavy then (what is normal as far as i know)

Then i have tried to push the PS button on the wheel but nothing happens. (not one of the buttons on the wheel respnse)

I start the F1 2020 game, and when done loading i press the PS button on the wheel again, and still nothing happens, pressing any button on the D-Pad the game starts, but what i noticed is that when the game is started, the wheel turns completely to the left, and then completely to the right, and then left again to (nearly) centering the wheel, and then wheel steers very light, like it's not connected.

I have downloaded the Steeringwheel manual from the Thrustmaster website, but i think that's an other manual then which you are referring to, for instance you mentioned "On PlayStation®4, with the USB sliding switch (5) in the PS4™ position" but i don't know where there should be a sliding switch on my T500 wheel?

Further you mentioned "Don't forget to press the racing wheel’s PS button (8) in order to be able to use the wheel." but when do i need to press that PS button on the steeringwheel, Before i start F1 2020? or do i have to start the gam with the X-button on the D-Pad?

This is so confusing to me (since i have to do it with only my school English, which is pretty bad)

I hope that you can/will help me out on this one again.

Thank you very much so far.

For my T300RS wheel, when I press the PS button I get a controller symbol appear in the top left of the screen. Do you get this? I suspect this indicates that the PS4 is connected to the wheel and without this it is probably impossible for the game to 'see' it

I'll add that the above is before launching the game, since I then use my wheel to do this.

[SOLVED]

In the meantime that I have been helped by several people, I have been messing around myself, and as ‘Philappleraily' advised me to connect the steering wheel directly into the PS4.

After that everything worked immediately and perfectly as it should, I can now use the steering wheel with F1 2020.

So it turns out that with F1 2020 the steering wheel must be connected directly to the PS4 and not via a USB hub

I wanna thank you racers very much for the fantastic quick help and response

i'm using T500 normally in F1 2020 on PS4. But it doesnt work if i have my shifter plugged in too.. try to only plug wheel, and when game is loading and is asking you to press any button, press button on wheel, not on pad.

I use a T500 to on PS4 and for me it works doing this:

  • Startup your PS4
  • Connect your wheel
  • Start the game with your pad and push on the circle button of your wheel immediately after starting the game
  • Wait until your wheel calibrates again

Now your wheel should be recognized by the game.
