Alternative push button Overtake

Recommended Posts

Good evening,

I would like to propose to you Codemasters developers, to put an alternative option, to the button "Overtake"

Now you have to press once to reset it and another to disable it.
Couldn't you just put the option of holding the button down and when it is released, it deactivates itself, as pilots on their steering wheel actually do?

thank you very much and sorry maybe my not perfect english.

They would then have to do 2 versions of it as I am one of those that prefer to press the overtake button and then press it again to release it , I would hate having to keep it pressed to keep it activated , especially when at times you have to press other buttons say for the drs to activate

Agree been quite a few times I've accidently pressed the over take button with out realising and had to do half a lap with no battery and having no option to defend . I'm constantly having to check I haven't turned it on by mistake . Keeping it pushed in would be the way to go for me at least . The could give the option to have it iether way

If you're on a wheel there would be plenty of times that having to hold it down would be a real PITA, for instance I use it the early esses in Hanoi and accurately steering right/left/right/left while holding a button would be problematic. I also sometime engage it as I break into a corner (or still coming out) so it is already enabled when I get on the gas as I apex, again, having to hold a button through a corner is less than idea... and that with me having a formula style wheel with optimal layout.

What would be good would be a setting to auto-cut it after a certain amount of seconds (say 10) as when you miss turning it off you can sometimes go several corners before you release it has been depleted. I don't know if that is in the spirit of the F1 rules, but it would save me from the dreaded red X some times!

I think there is a topic somewhere else on the forum on this and they are looking into maybe introducing it! As in a setting that lets you decide whether you want a push and push again or a push and hold

Both would make sense and could be implemented simultaneously.

Button press engages overtake, depress within 200ms keeps in engaged until the next press is detected.

If no depress detected in under 200ms then function assumes press and hold, remains engaged until depress detected.

That way you could literally use either option at different sections of the track.

In the settings menu you could chose from three options for Overtake. 1) Toggle only, 2) Press and hold only , 3) Both - context triggered.
