Wi fi v Ethernet connection

Recommended Posts

I generally play games on my XBox One via wi fi connecton and only connect it to ethernet if I'm downloading updates or digital versions of games. Should I be ethernet connected for playing games? Do games and particularly digitally downloaded games play 'better' through ethernet? I've had a situation where I've played my F1 game with my console still connected by ethernet cable ( was updating console previously and hadn't removed cable), had a saunter around Silverstone for a few laps on TT, and got my fastest lap time down by nearly 2 seconds!! ??? Ethernet connection or pure luck/my driving is improving.

I can't see how it would affect offline game modes like TT at all.

For online game modes there is an obvious advantage to using an ethernet connection, although how big will depend on the specific WiFi connection.

Makes perfect sense. So ethernet connection only affects online parts of the game. I ran a lucky faster lap then. 😊

I think so. Unless @BarryBL had something in mind I'm missing?

I've checked out the network speed and stats for both wireless and wired connections to my xbox one. Upload speed and packet loss are around the same. However wired download speed was nearly 3 times faster than wireless......and wired latency was lower than wireless by 10 ms. I just wish that I played more online games/races. 😉
