Car shoots off track when making wheel changes

Anyone else noticed that if you make any changes in race on your wheel (brake bias/fuel mix/aero etc) your car will shoot off in a random direction? Same when you look behind. Is this intentional? Can see this being a huge issue for online racing.

I've had it happen once, I watched the replay of it and how violently it swerved off was crazy.

Happens everytime I attempt to change anything or look behind, and the menu is so unresponsive, you can't do quick changes like you could in previous games.
