Time Trial Track Limits

Recommended Posts

I just ran a lap at Hunagary during which I cut the second part of a third-gear chicane (has the polysyrene bumps on the inside) slowly enough to where the game didn't invalidate the lap. Unfortunately, I can't remember if the lap ended up as my fastest even though I slowed down to purposefully make in slower than my best. Thus, I propose making severe corner cutting a violation, no matter its speed to aviod similar situations. After all, we, technically, gain time in those situations no matter what speed we're going.

Ha! I've done the same and deliberately slowed down to avoid a clearly invalid lap actually becoming my fastest - thought I might be the only one .

This can also make it harder to learn what the track limits actually are to begin with. I started to learn the Hanoi track earlier today and I'm struggling with the turn where the pit exit is at the moment, partly in terms of understanding the limits and partly with trying to figure out what is the best way to take it. People talk about Bahrain turn 10 being difficult but right now I'm finding this Hanoi turn much more challenging! (Admittedly with ABS on so I'm not worrying about lock ups on the Bahrain corner, which I know is a major part of the challenge with it.)

Bahrain Turn 10 is literally the bane of my existence with ABS off 😂. The line you have to take in order to actually slow down for the corner without locking up is actually absurd. It's really interesting how Hanoi Turn 2 & 3 are equally difficult but for an entirely different reason: throttle management and your line out of Turn 1 basically makes or breaks your lap time with this corner.

As of Saturday I'm now trying to make the switch to having TC fully off (from medium) and ABS off. I'm not going to rush to try Bahrain out though as I have enough difficulty with simple corners just now!

That's awesome! I just graduated from the controller to a sim two months ago so I know exactly how you feel. I'm not sure what the jump from Medium to Off on TC is like because I was overly ambitious and went straight to Off (I paid for this dearly), but turning ABS off is really difficult at first but once you get a feel for it it's really fun. Best of luck!

P.S. To start out I would recommend doing a bunch of laps around Austria as Turns 1, 3, and 4 are nice heavy braking zones and the exit of Turn 3 is really tough to find the sweet spot between getting on the throttle too early and spinning or getting on it too late and losing lap time!
