Codies Racing Line – September 3, 2020

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Thank you for joining us for another Racing Line! We hope everyone is happy and healthy – and prepared for a bumper line-up of Codemasters news and reveals from the past two weeks.

A game launch, big updates for live titles, and a much-anticipated reveal for an upcoming game just scratch the surface of what we’ve been up to over the last fortnight. So, enough rambling on and scene-setting! Let’s get straight into it – kicking off with the unveiling of a brand new way for you to Let Loose later this year…

DIRT 5

Create. Share. Discover. Those are your missions, should you choose to accept them.

Announced during gamescom 2020’s Opening Night Live show, feast your eyes on Playgrounds – the all-new mode for DIRT 5:

We’re about to drop a host of links for you to find out more about Playgrounds, but here’s the summary: DIRT 5’s Playgrounds mode gives you the opportunity to design your very own custom racing arenas, using a suite of tools and objects to craft the dream setting for racing antics. Upload your designs to DIRT 5’s database to share them with the world, and use our Discover section to browse, find and race on the most incredible user-created Playgrounds. Near-endless possibilities and experiences, driven by a creative community – that’s Playgrounds.

Want to see how that all works? No need wait until launch day – we delivered a work-in-progress version of Playgrounds to our Racing Ahead content creators, so check out early gameplay and their thoughts on the new mode right here. At the end of this article we’ll also drop some links to gameplay highlights from the Racing Ahead crew.

Keen to get yourself ready for Playgrounds after seeing it in action? We’ve published a detailed guide on how it all works here, and during IGN’s live gamescom coverage, we showed an exclusive Playgrounds walkthrough. Over on the PlayStation Blog, meanwhile, we’ve dropped some handy tips on how to get the most out of Playgrounds straight away.

Phew. Playgrounds is just one aspect of DIRT 5, which is stacked with fresh features and ways to play. I guess it’s no surprise, then, that DIRT 5 bagged the Best Racing Game award at gamescom! Congratulations to the entire team and thank you to everyone for your support so far.

Finally, more key details dropped recently in the form of recommended and minimum PC specs for DIRT 5, so make sure to check them out. Got any hot takes on all the above? Wanna ask a question to the team? Join the official DIRT 5 Discord server, where I’m often hanging out with the community. See you there!

F1® 2020

PJ_F120_Belgium_LN04_2.jpg

Hello! It’s time for another Racing Line, and we have a LOT to bring you today, so let’s get going…

F1 Esports Pro Draft Reveal Show

Last week, each of the official F1® teams revealed who, out of the 45 competitors in the F1 Esports Pro Draft, they had selected to join their roster. We broke down what the Pro Draft Reveal Show is here, so make sure to give it a read if you’re new to the F1 Esports scene! You can catch the full Pro Draft show here.

All drivers selected in the Pro Draft will be able to race in the Pro Series, which gets started in October. See the final team rosters right here, and get these race dates marked in your calendar!

Driver Ratings Update

It’s been an eventful start to the F1® season, and we’ve been busy updating the driver ratings in F1® 2020 to match. So, what’s changed? Here are some of the notable updates! Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen had stood on the podium a grand total of five times so far this season, even before his third-placed finish in Belgium this past weekend, which sees his Pace, Awareness and Overall rating increased. You probably won’t be shocked to find out that George Russell’s ratings have changed, too. His performances have netted him two extra Experience points and six additional Awareness points. But that’s not all! His incredible qualifying form has added two more Pace points, all of which increases his Overall rating by one.

Find the full driver ratings changes, up to and including the Spanish Grand Prix, right here.

Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps Sneak Peek

In the build-up to the Belgian Grand Prix, we released a sneak peek of the upcoming livery updates for F1® 2020. You’ll be able to get your driving gloves on these soon – keep an eye on our channels for more news!

We’re also aiming to bring a performance update to F1® 2020 in the first half of October. This will include balancing the performance of Racing Point and Scuderia Ferrari. We’ll be revealing more soon, but in the meantime, you can read more here.

Tutorials and Guides

If you’re new to F1® games, or if you need a bit of a refresher, make sure you watch our ‘Tutorials and Guides’ playlist on YouTube. Whether you’re struggling to learn a new track, or want to know more about wet weather driving, our guides will give you everything you need to get going.

Watch below, or save to check out later:

That’s it from me – I’ll see you in two weeks’ time!

PROJECT CARS 3

DodgeViperRacing_Bathurst_1.jpg

Hello, fellow racers! The time has finally come: Project CARS 3 is now out, the reviews are in, and we’re all stoked to see the reactions from all players as you’re getting stuck into the action.

With this being the first Racing Line since the release of Project CARS 3, I thought I’d start with a quick recap of how the release went, before telling you a bit about what’s still coming up – because this is just the start of the Project CARS 3 journey…

Release

Project CARS 3 is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Featuring a fully fleshed-out career mode, over 200 cars and 120 track layouts to experience in Your Ultimate Driver Journey, there’s a huge amount of content to sink your teeth into.

gamescom

Last Sunday, Project CARS 3 was awarded Best Simulation Game at gamescom, the world’s largest computer and video games event. The Slightly Mad team is delighted to receive this award, and this marks the second time the Project CARS franchise has scooped up this award. Congratulations to the whole team!

Project CARS 3 Soundtrack

One of the aspects of Project CARS 3 that has been praised by players and reviewers alike is the soundtrack. A collaboration with RAM Records, featuring a selection of bespoke drum ‘n’ bass tracks fused with atmospheric-themed mixes for when you’re tinkering with your car in the garage, makes the whole package that much more special. Many have asked when the soundtrack will be available, and although an exact date yet can’t be revealed just yet, here’s a look at what to expect:

Community Challenge

Just in case you didn’t know, the C in CARS stands for Community – and said community is essential to us, so I have a challenge for you all this week!

I’d love for you to send me your best in-game image taken through the photo mode, your best custom livery, or even that record-breaking lap time that earned you a top spot on the Rivals leaderboard.

Share your content on social media by using the hashtag #ProjectCARS3. I will be keeping an eye out and sharing the best posts in the official channels, so show us what you’ve got!

That’s it for this week – the entire team are already working hard on the DLC packs coming soon. Speaking of which — if you grab Project CARS 3 today, you’ll get the Ignition Pack included, featuring a host of customisation content for your cars and character.

So, what are you waiting for? Get racing! As always, if you want to keep up to date on all things Project CARS 3, join the Discord community, and don’t forget to follow us on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and our website.

DIRT RALLY 2.0

DR2_Ford_FiestaR2_DWS.jpg

The DiRT Rally 2.0 World Series Begins

The DiRT Rally 2.0 World Series is back for 2020, with double the prize money, a real-life rallycross drive up for grabs and a brand new rally car as an in-game reward. In the last Racing Line, we had just announced the competition, so now we’re well underway. As I write this, we’re currently in Week 2 of Round 1; you can find all of the details here.

Remember: you only need to take part in one Qualifier to get the Ford Fiesta R5 MKII, which will be in your Rewards once we add it to the game in early-October. If you want to push yourself further, however, we have demonstration runs of each Qualifier up on our YouTube. Keep an eye out for more in the coming weeks and months.

With the World Series roaring back to life, esports site OverTake sat down (virtually) with the DiRT Rally 2.0 Game Director, Ross Gowing, to talk about the World Series and the future of off-road esports. Grab your favourite warm beverage and have a read here.

World RX is Back!

DiRT Rally 2.0 is the official game of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, so naturally we’re all excited to see the real-world sport back on our screens again. The 2020 season kicked off with two rounds at Höljes in Sweden (which you can drive in the game), followed by another two rounds in Finland, and in a few weeks’ time they’re off to Latvia for another double-header (that track’s also in the game).

The big question going into the first four rounds: are Johann Kristoffersson and that Volkswagen Polo still the best combination around, despite both skipping 2019? “JK” certainly answered that in style, but he didn’t have it all his own way. You can catch the Final of Round 4 here, and the rest of the action on the World RX YouTube channel.

How to “Get Good” at DiRT Rally 2.0

DiRT Rally 2.0 is as popular as ever, and with many new players coming to the game over the past year a common question asked to us is: “how do I get better?”. To answer that, I compiled a list of tutorials and guides that you can all take a look at and up your game – which you may want to do considering the World Series is back in town! There are links to official tutorials, top guides from players, tuning setups and a whole lot more. Here’s the link, so go soak up all that knowledge.

That’s it for now everyone – good luck out there in the World Series.

F1® MOBILE RACING

10.jpg

It’s that time again, people!

With Update 13 for F1® Mobile Racing all rolled out, and the new content being enjoyed by our players, the team have been back in the lab, drawing up new ways for you to play and experience the official free-to-play F1® handheld racing game. We’ve taken on yet more feedback from the constantly-active community, blended in some big changes in the real-world F1 season, and brought in some fresh ideas for another major step forward for F1® Mobile Racing. On top of that, we’re continuing to look at the success of F1 Esports with our console and PC friends, and finding new ways to bring similar experiences to handheld players. Watch this space.

We’re almost ready to reveal all – I’d definitely recommend checking the game’s official Facebook page and Twitter channel over the next few days for more news!

ANY OTHER BUSINESS?

Racing Ahead content creators have been hard at work putting their ‘creator’ moniker to the test by getting to grips with DIRT 5’s recently announced Playgrounds mode this last week. There’s been no shortage of creativity amongst them.

Camodo Gaming’s first arena was a simple but satisfying creation that will have you hitting restart over and over to get the best time. Whereas GTR Technical, known for his DiRT Rally 2.0 set-up guides, is already gaining a reputation thanks to his incredibly detailed arenas.

It wasn’t all about creating though: Black Panthaa took an in-depth look at some of the Arenas already featured in this exclusive early access version of the game, and after testing the creator for himself, TmarTn challenged a few of the arenas made by the DIRT 5 development team. This exclusive build also included DIRT 5’s photo mode, which creator CROWNED put through its paces, creating some absolutely stunning shots. Seriously, you have to see these:

Like what you see? You’ll be able to get your hands on some of the best Racing Ahead creations in an exclusive Playgrounds Playlist when the game launches on October 16th – on top of everything else DIRT 5 has to offer.
