Fanatec WRC Elite wheel not working on Dirt Rally 2.0 PS4

Recommended Posts

I just bought the new Fanatec WRC Elite wheel with the CSL Elite base and is not working on DIrt Rally 2.0 PS4.

Everything works fine on any other game, even Dirt 4.

Hi there,

Checked in with our inputs specialist who has looked into it and here's our findings:

  • DiRT Rally 2.0 handles wheels differently to previous DiRT games, in that it detects the rim and the base as separate units.
  • As the Fanatec WRC Elite wheel is brand-new, we do not have an input map stored in the game (ie, no default button layout).

Here's what we'd recommend you do:

  1. Have a controller and a wheel (+rim) plugged in at the same time.
  2. With the controller, navigate to the Inputs menu and scroll down to your wheel.
  3. Select the wheel and head to where you can assign buttons.
  4. You should (hopefully) be able to assign your buttons and pedals from there.

You might end up having to navigate menus in the game with a controller, but if this works you would still be able to drive with the wheel.

Hello PJ and thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately I don't see the wheel in the input menu, only the Dualshock 4 is listed there.

Will the game ever be updated to resolve this ?

Thanks

Hello,

I can see this issue was brought up back in September and I was wondering if in the meantime this is being solved with a new update.

Many Thanks

Beks

I don't have any further information, sorry.

If that changes, we'll announce it. 🙂

It is currently not planned I'm afraid, as we're nearing end of updates for the title as a whole and it's too late to add it to v1.16.

I'll keep an ear out though, and if that changes will share an update.

Is there any chance at all that this issue has been resolved in the 2 updates that have been subsequently released following on from v1.16? It was too late for that update but it could surely of made it into v1.17 or v1.18. Are you able to provide any further update(s) regarding this?

I just responded about this on Reddit (I think you're the same guy but for the benefit of others I'll reshare) so I'll copy the response here 🙂

It won't be natively supported, as it released too late into the game's development.

That being said, HenrikM uses it on Xbox with no issue, though that's because of Fanatec's funky lack of an SDK on the platform to begin with so the game doesn't even know it's a Fanatec WRC.

TRUEFORCE implementation has been planned for at least a year.

Thanks for coming back to me about this, it is appreciated.

Having said that... (sorry!) according to a post on the Codemasters forum you’ve known about this issue since the start of September last year, is that not long enough for you to be able to get some sort of a fix together?

Seems strange that you’ve not been able to address this issue in the given time frame, makes me wonder if there is some sort of pettiness going on as Fanatec have buddied up with (one of) Dirt Rally’s closest competitors in WRC 9?

Either way it seems pretty poor to me that you’ve not managed to do something about this in the 6+ months that you’ve known about it. Many people (myself included) would have brought this wheel rim specifically to use it with Dirt Rally 2.0 on the PlayStation only to find out that it simply does not work unless you boot the wheelbase into a compatibility mode which has many drawbacks of its own (lack of support for analogue handbrakes being one of them).

At the time when v1.16 was due to be the last update for the game I could appreciate how you might of been caught out by this but 6 months and 2 updates later it should really of been addressed.

There's no pettiness involved (Fanatec are the F1 Esports provider afterall), as we'd like to support every wheel on the market where possible. I use Fanatec hardware myself so I understand where you're coming from.

It's simply a timing and resource issue as I previously mentioned. After the Colin McRae DLC released a year ago the majority of the development team began working on future projects, leaving a skeleton crew for any in-progress or essential updates to DiRT Rally 2.0. There comes a point where a team needs to shift focus to different projects, and the Fanatec hardware was made available long after that point I'm afraid.

In addition to this our wheel/hardware specialists have been working on F1 2020 and DIRT 5 in that time, assisting those dev teams with wheel implementation and support. DIRT 5 in particular is a key priority in this area as it initially launched without any wheel support and is still getting updates and refinements.

Finally (and it may sound like an excuse but hear me out), the pandemic has caused issues for hardware testing and implementation in particular. Not only is is trickier to acquire multiple wheels these days but as various developers and QA staff are scattered across the country and no longer consolidated in a single studio, simply having access to the physical hardware to do the required work isn't as easy as it was.

I'd personally like the wheel to be supported so that I myself can buy it so I get the frustration, however it's not as easy as it seems to implement such a thing, even with the long gap between the wheel's release and today.

I can indeed confirm that I am the same guy who is currently whining on Reddit, thanks for coming back to me across all the platforms I have been moaning on 🤣
