THIS IS WRONG IN THE GAME! (no bugs)

Recommended Posts

@BarryBL Let's make it to a big topic.
A lot of that following things are wrong in the game and we don't talk about bugs, just because they are wrong!

⚠️ 1. COLOR BARS ARE WRONG ⚠️
Codemasters and their graphic designer are using the wrong team color bars in the graphics
AlphaTauri = white color bar (not dark blue like in the game)
Williams = sky blue color bar (not light blue like in the game)

The problem is pretty simple, you not using the right official broadcast team color bars and I often mix up the teams especially on the mini map. I often held the AlphaTauri as a Red Bull due to the same color.
Fix it please! Shouldn't be too hard!

⚠️ 2. FERRARI LOST A SPONSOR ⚠️
Ferrari lost a partnership with their sponsor "Weichai", but you still haven't removed the sponsor logos from the car based on 1.09 (Livery updates)

⚠️ 3. HAMILTON WEARS A BLACK HELMET ⚠️
Since the first race weekend we should all known Hamiltons black-purple helmet livery (Black-lives-matter-Edition) but it never found it's way into the game. Lewis never changed his helmet design during the season, so it's his standard design for this year. Change the white-purple helmet livery into the black-purple edition then? Or where is the problem again?

⚠️ 4. TV POD OFFSET CAMERA SETTING SHOULD HAVE A FISH EYE LENS EFFECT ⚠️
If someone uses the TV POD OFFSET camera then only for the reason to get the original broadcast onboard view settings. But there is a big important setting missing!!! Where is the typical fish eye lens effect for that camera known from broadcasting to get the original onboard view? The problem without that fish eye lens effect is that the front tires look way too wide and the cars seems much too narrow. We can adjust as much as we want we will never get the original broadcast settings for the TV POD OFFSET CAMERAS.

⚠️ 5. RED FLAGS ⚠️
The last two races in Monza and Mugello are symbols of what goes wrong in an "OFFICIAL" FORMULA ONE GAME (where some rules seem unimportant for Codemasters)!!!
Red flag must be in the game, just BECAUSE we are talking about an official video game that should reflect the sport and that simple flag rule is missing 😉 or would it be great to have a FIFA game without a red card? A red flag also symbolizes life on track and that the AI is alive by making mistakes so that the race has to be stopped due to debris. While there is a red flag out on track you can choose your new set of tyres, take some time to think about your strategy. Going into the broadcast menu and you can take a look at the previous highlights of the session (because red flags aren't just for the race, it could be in every session). You will receive a time on your gaming screen from the FIA until the session resumes. Waiting isn't a disaster in that game >>>>> it would be a game changer for every session and you can have some good or bad luck with a red flag. You starting your pole lap after you've wait in the pit for a long time, but there was a massive crash and the session is stopped = you have to come back into the pit and you lost one set of tyres.. It's part of Formula 1 and their rules. So where is the problem to implement the red flag into the game? It would be a dramatic and exciting thing for the game to have another standing restart after a red flag as we've seen the last few races!

⚠️ 6. MORE LIFE ON TRACK ⚠️
Codemasters F1 games are for me pretty sterile and predictable and it has nothing to do with Formula 1 if you have no impending danger from a red flag. Same with the boring and predictable weather system (Example: If the rain stops I already know the track is completely dry after 3 laps in a 100% race... no puddles off the track, no visible clear dry line.. far too little spray etc.)
It would be nice to see a crane towing the car after a big crash and marshalls cleaning the track during a safety car. These little elements liven up the game with realism that would make any gamer pretty happy to see it.

⚠️ 7. ATTENTION: OWN TECHNICAL FAILURES ( = DNF ) ⚠️

If someone is driving with simulation damage model it shouldn't be taken for granted to finish the race just because you drove the race without any mistakes. It's too predictable! We all know we can't get any technical failures on our own car. No engine problems (engine blow ups), no puncture when we drive over debris or someone hit the rear tire with his front wing etc. = no "DNF" possible on technical side (only AI has technical failures yet) So everytime it's the same forecast: start - no mistakes by your own - and you will see the ceckered flag. That's not Formula One! We have no danger in that game... But it should be the case in simulation damage settings.

⚠️ 8. SAFETY CAR: ALLOW LAPPED CARS TO UNLAP ⚠️
The game really needs this rule included. Without it, there is the potential for races to be completely ruined. If you've been lapped and then get stuck in a SC queue, green light and you have to let "everyone" pass and that's your race over. On the other hand if you are in 2nd place, but you have a lapped car between you and the leader so you have no direct chance to attack the leader when restarting. Stop making your own rules! As FIA indicates in Article 39.12 (sporting regulations 2017), lapped cars may unlap themselves once cars were lined up behind the safety car.
Since 3 years it's missing in the game. No more excuses! It's an official rule in F1 that lapped cars can overtake the safety car after some laps to restore the order of the placements. You representing the official Formula One in a game but not all rules have found their way into the game.. SINCE YEARS! It's a big shame that your team isn't able to adapt this important rule and it's something that was talked about with the Community for years now! My opinion is: You are just too incapable to solve the problem with the safety car. Instead of closing a construction site, you always open new ones with new needless features.
Sorry for that, but you failed again on this point. No surprise anymore.... FIX IT FINALLY!

⚠️ 9. CRASH AND WE ARE BACK IN THE YEARS WHEN WE HAD NO COLOR TELEVISION ⚠️
What I hate is the boring black-white color screen after each of our own accidents.
More creativity would be required here Codemasters! So, what about switching into the broadcast style / broadcast cameras to see the driver get out of the car, marshalls helping the driver to get out of the car and they start to cleaning the track. But of course for that you have to produce new cut scenes and that's not your strength since years. 😉 Many cut scenes are the same since 2015! I would like to remember the same scooter driver who brings the drivers into the pitlane.

⚠️ 10. NO HIGHLIGHTS FOR A LOSER ⚠️
Just a simple question to all of you: Why do we get no race highlights in the cinema after we crashed and do not finished the race? I can understand it if someone drops out of the race right at the start, but if you crashed in the middle of the race distance or at the end, up to then there were still a lot of highlights that we would like to see, correct? Or is it a punishment for being crashed not getting to see the highlights? 😉

Codemasters should finally understand that they are dealing with a community that most of them wants Formula One games to be as realistic as possible! We want a realistic implementation instead of playful childhood porridge...

Just hold a controller in your hand while you watch the races.

It's not now nor has it ever been a pure simulation title there is going to be things that don't make it into the games because it's a hybrid.

All "OFFICIAL" means is that it is a licensed F1 game.

Putting red flag into the game would be pointless unless you like videogames where you park your car and sit around with your thumb up your butt.A red flag situation in a video game would likely be nothing more than a cut scene showing a mess on the track, but this game is already relatively devoid of incidents let alone catastrophic ones like we've seen in the last two Grands Prix.

Finally, the broadcast colour issue is likely to do with the fact that Codemasters doesn't have the license for the broadcast presentation.

There are probably better simulations out there

I think Red Flag needs to be implemented when there is at least a crash of 3 cars or more. At least give it a 60% for it to come out.

For the red flag part, if CM ever decided to make the damage sensitivity as high as *just* the simulation setting of the Extreme Damage Mod in future games, it'll definitely has a much greater chance and senses to meet the circumstances for the red flag to appear.

Oh...the mayhem of Hanoi's back straight...

I would like them to allow unlapping, but it needs to be done right. The cars need to ghost while doing that. Safety Cars are a guaranteed wreck-fest in random online lobbies as it is, and unlapping would only make it worse. For 25% races I don't think it's a good idea at all, because it will prolong the SC period, which can already take a quarter of the race (for a single SC).

As you noticed in the Formula 1 rules, unlapping is not compulsory. The Race Director may allow them to unlap, and usually they do because it's safer. In the virtual, nothing is as unsafe as driving behind the SC unless it's a league race.

Firstly, please stop comparing racing to association football because sendings off (straight reds) and second yellows are a lot more common than red flags. Secondly, you just proved my point about wanted steward models in the game from the last topic you brought this up in by adding a crane model to the request because someone has to drive the carne.

To be honest, none of this matters to me with the possible exception of DNFs due to mechanical issues. It could be linked to the over all durability of the car just to make that branch a little more important. I don’t race with the safety car on and red flags are rare enough (except this season) to not warrant inclusion in my mind. The rest are window dressing.

< screams for realism
< drives exclusively T-Cam with every possible HUD available

Gotta love the "immersion" and "realism" arguments. But I for one say, let them have realism: cockpit view only, no assists allowed with no HUD and sitting in car in came for long period of time in case of red flag. Oh, let's not forget actual real life simulation damage. I want these things to be non-adjustable. Realism.... 🙂

I won't stop 🙂 Flags and cards are part of sport rules. Doesn't matter if Formula 1 or FIFA games. There is a red flag missing and that's a fact. How would it be if there is no yellow flag just a red flag in the game? The grumbling would be loud. I don't understand that the red flag is missing, because it would be a game changer with a free stop, following the safety car into the pit and work on a new strategy and of course standing starts. You and many other gamers who are against a red flag probably don't understand the meaning of flags in relation to the games and how much potential there is for unpredictable races. Nevertheless red flags are part of Formula One and it should be in the game. What I criticize is also due to the fact that the Codemasters F1 races are sterile and there is far too little life on the track. When an accident happens, I don't want to see the cars as ghosts and that they suddenly disappear as if they had been swallowed by the ground. That's why I'm talking about marshalls cleaning up the track and cranes that bring the car off the track. I think more realism on and off the track wouldn't be a disadvantage, would it?

Just gonna leave this here.

Just kidding. I cannot refrain from typing stuff.

People talk left and right about the AI in racing games in general and in Codemasters F1 in particular. Well I'll be the first to admit that I don't have nearly enough experience in sim racers to load my opinion with a desirable degree of authorizing knowledge so to speak, but I've seen plenty on the community – Reddit and youtube included – about how (1) AI training and engineering is no small task and (2) how Codemasters F1 games sit on the better end of the scale.

The video above gives a small glimpse on the first point and assuredly raised my appreciation of how the AI behaves in F1 2020. This is a quite contentious topic and you'll find people so scattered on the "AI does naught in this waste-of-my-time attempt at a racing game" to "gosh I swear it felt like I was actually racing Max in there for a moment" spectrum it makes you wonder if we're really playing the same title, but fortunately I happen to fall on the content gamer side of the coin here.

We're not privy to the details in the deal between Codies and SMS, but whatever level of access they have to their IPs are probably highly serviceable and applicable to the F1 franchise too. Should be noted that "IP" does not necessarily correlate to a videogame franchise. Pretty much any piece of code may constitute an IP – so Project Cars weather system and whatever else they had going for them before their latest NFS Shift PC3. They had a sweet weather and track conditions system plus laser scanned tracks, right?

That's probably in the horizon.

The red flag idea though I'm not that confident. Even if it could be done right, it seems to be a mammoth task of coding and AI training to make it believable. If CM has it on their sights, I hope it is considerably low on their priorities. I made a napkin math here and there's precisely a bazillion other things I hope they improve on or feature in future titles.

And the comparison to yellow and red cards in football is just outlandish, mate. Red flags are indeed a well established protocol in the FIA regulations, but same goes for declarations of war in your country's legal code or how if a team "score" an own goal during a free kick in football it is converted into a corner kick for the opposing team instead – it is right there in the regulations under "Law 13". It doesn't strip the scenario of its exceptional nature.

Red flags are just that, exceptional, extraordinary. And it just adds to the oddity that is the 2020 season that we've seen three occurrences so far in Italy alone.

In a nutshell:

  1. Yes, it would be nice if done right, but it has way more chances of backfiring and detracting from one's enjoyment of the game than hitting the mark;
  2. It seems to be a mammoth task, AI and coding wise. There's a bazillion other things I hope Codemasters put their time and resources on before implementing a red flag system;
  3. No way this is even remotely comparable to yellow and red cards on football. Grid penalties and time penalties are; red flags are way more extraordinary.

In a different topic, OP said they didn't want CM adding physical stewards to the game. However, they just mentioned that they'd like to see a crane towing away cara in what someone else noted would be a cutscene. Therefor, they've, effectively, said the want physical stewards in the game because stewards are needed to get the car onto the crane in the first place.

Tried searching for "steward OR stewards" in threads with posts by you and found only one. With no mention of cutscenes, though.

Isn't it reading too much into it anyway?

There are already models for track marshals in the game - assuming that's what you're referring to as generally stewards are a different kind of official working mostly off track, on the race control room. You can easily spot them behind armco barriers on replays and flashbacks, sporting their distinctive orange/red jacket.

Even if they were indeed speaking of cutscenes, there are pre rendered cutscenes and real time or game engine cutscenes. The game have plenty of the latter and I'd guess they're not that hard to bake & can into it.

There are serious challenges with a red flag system but a hypothetical real time cutscene doesn't strike me as that big of a deal. Which doesn't mean I want them in the game. As I said in the previous post, not very high on my wishlist.

May‘ve said marshals, but I remembered it as stewards for some reason. Alternatively, I could’ve mixed posters up as well. Try that search without the poster restriction and see what comes up.

Or you can reintroduce the discussion here, if there's something lacking?

Your original point was about needing marshal models in the game. They're already in there, so no biggie. And I failed to see much relevance in the cutscene thing to begin with for the reasons above - basically, no biggie too.

If we're missing the point you could expand on it.

The point about adding marshal models is now moot because I know they’re in the game now, which I didn’t when I made the original post above, which I now know. The other topic may have been Removed from public view, but I remember if coming up before.

What would be the point? The amount of grief CM would get for implementing it would be unbelievable....

"The lions are too fast. No way could they catch an F1 car in real life"

"Why arnt the lions catching the backmarkers? Why dont CM make them faster"

"Why do the lions have manes? only the females hunt"

"Where are the manes? These dont look like real lions"

"I want the lions to have stripes. This lion had stripes added yesterday. I want it now...."

But seriously, CM cant even get the safety car right, let alone programming in red flags?

I would love to see the marshals push the car out of the way, or a crane lift it over the barrier. At least then we'd have a reliable safety car deployment system. Speaking of, ive still not seen a VSC in My Team. Ive had 3 safety cars and just starting my 3rd season.

Comparing a red flag to a red card in football is like comparing apples and oranges. A yellow/red card in F1 is a black/white (driving standards flag)/black flag. If you want a football comparison, how about a red flag is more like a power outage during a night game. Or pitch invasion.

A red flag would be interesting, but as a game - ive had enough safety cars/red flags during my racing i dont think i need any more stoppages during my virtual racing in my free time. Or should it be an option you can toggle on and off?

We live in the 21st century of the game industry, it should be easy to give us an option to turn a red flag on and off.
If someone doesn't want this option, just turn it off.

Of course we can't compare a red flag to a red card, apart from the same color :classic_biggrin: The meaning behind this sarcastic comparison is pretty simple: every sport has its own rules. It would be strange if a red card is missing in FIFA games and its strange too, that we have no red flag in the F1 games but all other flags are included. The differences between a red flag and a red soccer card are of course great but the sense of integrating all the sport rules into a game is the same. If there is a massiv crash and you turned on the red flag option the session has to be stopped! And then we are talking about a game changer with a free pit stop and tyre choise, adaptation of the strategy while you waiting in the pit lane and standing restarts
