SixtoRodriguez 10 Posted November 6 Hi, I'm still struggling with manual race starts. I'm playing on a T300 wheel with two pedals. This means I have no clutch pedal. I need to press and hold the switch (= shift up) and release it when the lights turn red. I have problems to into that perfect range with the tachometer. Is there any way to ease things up? (Yes, I like to keep manual race starts.)
PJTierney 4,908 Posted November 6 It comes down to throttle application in this scenario. If you feel you've gone a bit over on the rev range when the lights go out, quickly shift up to 2nd and the tyres will bite the road earlier.

I was also thinking about starting with the low fuel mix to avoid wheel and ultimately crashing the car on the grid wall. Do that and turn the Differential down to 50%, then once you get going you can turn things up again.
GnrDreagon 78 Posted November 6 It's just a matter of practice I guess. I also have trouble with those starts but you simply have to do it often. I notice it getting easier to get the right revs going but many AI's still start faster than me but I do get better at it.
USPBauer24 82 Posted November 6 As the lights come on, rev to about about 75% - once the lights go out, ease your foot of the throttle and the tyres will grip - you will start going forward then shift up as normal. You will fly off the line. Easing off the throttle mid-launch seems bonkers but it works well.
Rango 171 Posted November 9 It's hard, but it's all down to throttle application and short shifts. I've spun so many times off the line and am still trying! I tend to find it easier on softs but occasionally you need to quali on medium for the strategy so I've been known to have tc med for the race start then quickly switch it off at the first opportunity (usually the next straight). Determined to get it eventually. My advice is to try and keep revs about 10-11k and then short shift into third at which point you should get the grip required to get to max revs. Try starting a GP, then restarting it after the first corner to practice. Really wish this game had a practice start mode

Problem with time trial is that it's no fuel / softs only, and some tracks are way harder with assists off than tt would have you believe
