DLC: Would you be in favour?

Recommended Posts

If they add another 2 long stages for the 6 rallies(incl. Sweden) that we'll have.
Then np's, i don't mind paying another 30 bucks for that even if no new cars are included.

The thing i would look forward to the most, is new stages and not necessarily new environments.
Like i  said... i have np's paying them 30 bucks for another set of stages.
This would give us 4 long + Reversed, equalling 8 long stages per country.

Number of stages wise... this for me is the place where Dirt Rally is lacking the most(with respect of'cos).

Exactly, I think additions to existing locations would be great and probably less expensive. Just imagine a new stages in Wales...

Very simple answer: of course they should offer DLC.
BUT... i do think that any car they add as DLC should be included by default in Dirt Rally 2.
I'm fine if DLC can fund the additional work required on scanning car models, arranging licenses or scanning new tracks.
What would piss me off however is if in Dirt Rally 2 they just remove that content, and sell it again as DLC. That's what constantly happened with Forza motorsport and it pissed me off to no end that a car that was included in Forza 3 out of the box had to be purchased as DLC in part 4.

In the end however, if you're old enough to buy DLC, you're also old enough to decide it's not worth it, and just not buy it. All the people complaining DLC is a rip-off have the simple option of just not buying it.

Agreed witht he Forza thing, I never understood why they did that, cars like the Shelby Cobra and Lancia that were in the game from the beginning all of a sudden are now paid DLC. Although they do always add more cars. I'd be happy if DLC cars were new to the series, but considering 4 was using models from 2, pulling them out and reselling them was a bit weird, even if they remodeled the car.

I'm hoping that we get at least one new RX track in the December update.  Seeing the partnership with the FIA WRX but only three tracks makes me scratch my head a bit.

Well said, this is how I totally feel! If they did like every country that has ever held a WRC event (probably over 20) and some new cars to go with, I would easily pay them another $300 or more. Just as long as the content was of the same quality as it currently is.

But I would also love just 2 other things for all that money:

1) Make replays saveable files of a small size like Richard Burns Rally did (only 1Mb or something) that can be uploaded to the leaderboards and you can see everyone race. And give us better camera angles and controls.

2) Ghost cars for practicing against my best times and the times of others!

I'm all for DLC whether it be from the devs or third party devs as long as the basic game provides a broad enough base in terms of cars and stages to build on. I am a very keen flight simer, have been for some 10 years, I love the ability to buy and download airport, scenery and aircraft add ons of MY choice. The quality in terms of realism and authenticity of some of the add ons that third party devs are producing these days for FSX and P3D is in a whole different league to anything that you will see in any current driving game or sim. Mind you, the best ones can take up to a year or two to develop just one aircraft and will cost you $50 ! My point is, if I want a particular car and its available as DLC, if its top notch, looks right, handles right and sounds right, I have no problem spending $10 or $20 on
it. The beauty of flight sims is you can easily add or repaint planes, change sound files, tweak the planes config files to change flight dynamics etc. I wish I could do that with Dirt Rally but I doubt if that day will ever come !

Personally, I would love to see a Lombard RAC Rally pack from the golden years of rallying with period cars and all the stages, I dont expect it in DR but happy to buy it if its developed later. Same goes for the Welsh, Scottish, Circuit of Ireland and Manx rallies.  I am sure our European friends would go for the 1000 Lakes and Acropolis rallies if they were available as DLC later.

no to new locations and yes to more variety in stages would rock.
i love the idea of some monte carlo stages that are the more obscure snowy bumpy curved roads you can cut and not just a variation of either up or down col du turini

I would not purchase any dlc. I think some of you guys under estimate how much these games make in revenue. I don't blame you cause the company's aren't forced to show digital game sales numbers/profits, which is wrong.
There is no need for dlc, it's greedy. Make another game.

But if they make another game then they're going to be making a load more profit from that; so why would you want them to do so if you dont think they should be making profits from their work?
I mean fair enough if you dont think it worth buying to you, but deciding not to buy it purely for the reason you stated is just dim

I'm not against Codemasters making profit, obviously. A new game is good for both sides where as in my opinion, dlc is greedy in terms of work invested and cost to customer.

Absolutely YES to DLCs!
This way we could one day make DirtRally the perfect sim Rally ever, because you could have anything you dreamed about
in the game you love. I would pay anything for a car like the Audi Sport quattro S1 E2 for example.
So codies, just do it and take my money!

Sure! If this DLC comes out in format of new tracks, I'll be happily throwing my money at Codies for making and later supporting and expanding this beautiful, beautiful game that is DR !!

If they do a proper works Mk 2 Escort RS1800, as DLC, as far as I am concerned Codies can name their price !!

More cars would be nice but I'd really want more stages. More countries obviously but how about some historic events. e.g. in the 70's and 80's the RAC rally was a tour of Britain lasting days. Now only a few Welsh stages are left to fit in with the WRC format. The virtual world allows the Group B cars to run again so why not do the same for the stages?
I've bought a few Project Cars DLC packs and they seem to have the balance right - a free car every month, a pack of cars for under a fiver, a track expansion + cars for under a tenner.

Also, I WANT to pay for more. I'm a Rally fan but it's a minority motor sport compared to circuit racing. Also I play on PS4 and am delighted to have two hardcore driving "sims" , rather than dumbed down NFS arcadey racers. I want this game to be a commercial success to encourage more of this sort of thing.

"So no, not a fan of DLC crap. The longer they stay away from that new gaming generation mentality, the better."

While I agree with what @Porkhammer said, for DiRT Rally ONLY, I would pay for DLC. This coming from a person who likes to play video games...but since April 5th, my dualshock controller has been collecting dust. I have over 40 PS4 games in my library and the only game in the last two months that has gone into that machine has been DR. I'm not sure anything will go in there...until November when Gran Tursimo is released (sorry Codies...but GT is why I bought a PS4...and PS3...and the PS2 before that) ...so I'd dig more rallies.

Anyway, blah, blah, blah...maybe I should get fast on the stages that are there before asking for more, yeah?

Look at how divided people are on this subject. Some of us want just new stages, new rallies or specific cars, others are against the DLC altogether... It's not easy for Codies to make a decision. As for me, a realistic damage mode would suffice in terms of  new content. ;]

You know what would be really awesome? If Codies indeed realeased some bonus content, but free of charge. I think some people would start raising monuments in admiration :)
