Consistently Low FPS all quality settings all race modes

Recommended Posts

1.       A detailed description of the issue. Please include any error codes here.

F12019 is absolutely fine interestingly, F12020 is the one with the issue. 2020 is currently running in both DirectX11 and 12, I have been getting unstable GPU usage (from single digit percentage usage, to 50% or higher) as well as consistently low FPS (17 FPS almost always is the magic number). This occurs in career mode, benchmark, time trials, online races, everything.

My PC is:

AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 8-Core Processor

AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT

32GB ram

750W power supply

2.       What version of the game you are using (Shown on the start screen in the bottom left corner of the screen)

1.13

3.       Game-mode?

Grand Prix, Time Trials, My team, Multiplayer, all game modes impacted.

4.       What are your replication numbers? Minimum test attempts are 4. Please also add EXACT replication steps for us to try too.

Every single time I try to play the game, Im getting 17 fps.

5.       What troubleshooting have you attempted? Please always try to attempt to fix the issue

I have clocked the CPU/GPU, Unclocked CPU/GPU. Refresh rate in game, refresh rate in control panel, frame cap at 60 fps, 72fps, 144fps, Updated all motherboard, bios, cpu, and gpu drivers.

6.       What peripherals are you are using (gamepad, wheel make & model etc)

Nintendo Pro Controller

7.       Any screenshots or video of the issue? If the video is long, please include a timestamp for when the issue appears.

Screenshot of the frames.

So I'm attaching my benchmarking as well as I just ran the test again. The only thing I've changed since last night, is plug in my second monitor (old monitor, hdmi only, not set as primary). I have to set my resolution to 1920x1080 on my desktop so that I dont have issues with remoting in to work and the rdp session being rendered oddly. So it seems like that may address the issue for now? Desktop to 1920x1080 and plug in my second monitor, but its odd that when I unplug the monitor and reset my desktop resolution to be the same as in game, it causes the frame rate issue to happen again.

Is there anything else you'd like me to try before I continue testing this on my own?

Turning off Async Compute would be my first piece of advice.

EDIT: Lowering skidmarks may help too.

Could be (from your DXDiag here):

Driver Date/Size: 11/3/2020 7:00:00 PM, 1959992 bytes - Is this the latest update?

20.11.1 yes, it looks like it.

I run the same GPU and AMD Ryzen but only a 2700 and run in QHD (20.9.1) on 1909 also.

Post the board make and model (ASUS?) because drivers and firmware are pretty critical.

Interestingly, the game will operate at 60fps if Citrix software is running.

Uninstalling Citrix and disabling the drivers in device manager resulted in an FPS DROP. If I remote in to my work on my second monitor and have f1 2020 on my primary I'm at 60fps...

Not sure what to do, usually it's Citrix causing problems not being the solution.

Don't think it is being the solution, it's part of the problem.

This seems like a classic multimonitor issue. It's about time whether it's designated as a Windows display issue, a Citrix issue or a Codemasters issue.

If you take the second step and uninstall Citrix but leave the 2nd monitor connected, delete the hardware_settings_config.xml and try the game again, what happens?

Also, on the primary display I take it 60Hz is the recommended refresh with it being 4K?

IT WORKS!!! uninstalled Citrix, deleted hardware config xml and I'm getting 130fps

How do I make it so I can use Citrix and F1 2020? I've saved the current working config in case an overwrite is the only solution needed

I would try adding the Citrix but maybe have a word with their tech support if for stability it enforces a 60Hz refresh or if that can be adjusted or altered when you set it up.

Or just trial and error until you find what works. Copy the working hwsc file over the non-working ones before launching to try other solutions.

Good luck. (Filed under Citrix issue). 🙂

Yeah I'll see what I can do about it. Can I have the game read from a static config without overwrite? Like I designate it to read from hardware config master .xml and write to hardware config.xml?

You can set the working hardware_settings_config.xml to read-only and try that? Will be fairly simple to change it back if it doesn't work.

Bear in mind that then changing any in-game parameters is likely to cause an error at some point because the file will be locked. Or the changes will just not be saved.
