Suddenly thrown into spectator mode

Recommended Posts

  • A detailed description of the issue:

I join an existing session (10-18 of 22 players), wich is already running a race. Then I stay at the lobby, waiting for its end. After a few long minutes, the race is over, the results screen is gone, and we are all together in the lobby. I press READY button. The number of players increases near to 20 or 22 of 22 maximum. Then time to next race is over and we go to the race… For my suprprise, I am automatically thronw into SPECTATOR MODE… HOW COME? I have been waiting for 10  minutes to play and they throw me to the spectator mode?! It happens all the time, I have been trying to play for almost 30 minutes and had this problem 4 times… what should we do to solve it?

Then, I get ****** off and want to leave the session. I quite the session and the system takes minutes to reconnect to server. ***?! So I give up, cose the app and open it again... :/
  • Platform: PS4
  • Version of the game: 1.3
  • Unranked
  • Wired Connection
  • The amount of players in your session? When I connect 8-18 of 22, when it throws me to spectator mode there are around 22
  • Were you the host? No
  • Did this issue happens for everyone in the session, just some people or just yourself? What did they see? I think just me... I don’t talk to them.
  • We need to be able to make your problem happen internally so we can fix the issue. Can you make the problem happen again? Sure, easily...
  • How do you make the problem happen? Logging in to a session which gets full at the moment of starting the race.

Hi Vitor,

Can you add some extra detail on your connectivity settings when possible? NAT Type would be great. Also, do you mean 1.13?

Looks like you've also experienced an issue where gamertags do not show in the lobby. I've added that to an existing report as well.

The connection stability isn't there. Loads of sparklies and then flashing bandwidth bars.

It does say 1 spectator before going to lobby. I didn't see a car selection made by the player and yes missing gamertags doesn't bode well.

What a spot @steviejay69. Yeah, you select 'ready up' but didn't pick a car @VitorSerraBR, so the game will kick you to spectator as it doesn't have a car to assign you to, so assumes you want to spectate.

Wow, you are fast, hey!

Sorry, the version is 1.13, you were right, Barry BL.

Actually, because cars have same performance, I don't mind wich car I am going to take... but from now on, I'm gonna do it! 😉

But, anyway, if I wanted to be an spectator, I would select 'spectator' instead of 'ready up'... 😕

Regarding my network info --> NAT type is 2.

Please find 2 attached screenshots where you can check my network status out at that moment (it doesn't appear at the video, because share videoclip doesn't shows system scenes (i guess))... but i was recording from my cell phone at the same time, so these screenshot are from that exact moment of the videoclip! 😉

As it is in portugueese, If you need any help to understand anything, let me know.

I am located in Brazil, but most of lobbies are hosted in Europe... but anyway, connection is good and it shoudn't be a problem to join the race.

Thank you very much for your help, you both were awesome!

Thanks for the info @VitorSerraBR.

As a tip, and if your Internet provider lets it happen, changing to NAT Type 1 is helpful for online gaming connectivity, and you would see a improvement across all games, especially if you are connecting to European Racers like myself!

But, main cause here is that you have to assign yourself a car at the start of the lobby so the game knows the allocation. If not, the game doesn't give you a race seat, and assumes you want to be a spectator, regardless of size of lobby. As an exmaple, you could have 5 in lobby, and, without getting into a seat in the 'Select Team and Driver' section, it will assume you want 4 racers and you as the spectator.

Make sure you grab yourself a race seat in that section, and you'll be good to go 👍

EDIT: You cannot grab a free seat while in race. You can however grab a free seat in Practice or Qualifying, but you will not be able to get onto track until the current session has ended. So you enter lobby while in Qualifying, and you will join the action when the race starts from the back of the grid. Once the session starts, people can not be added into that session.
