F1 2013 Xbox 360 Questions (I am a beginner)

I got this game free due to "Games with Gold" monthly promotions for Xbox Live Gold members.  The last F1 game I played was on Playstation 1 and I don't know much about the real life sport.  The game is pretty challenging so I have been playing on the easiest level with all assists on except braking assistance.  Playing season mode.

1.  I received a few contract offers in my first season.  I had started with Sauber since I made some progress on the license tests and unlocked them.  The first contract offer was Red Bull.  Since I believe Red Bull has a faster car I took the offer.  Then I started getting other offers from Caterham and Williams.  Would it be best to stay with Red Bull since they have a faster car?  Are any teams better than Red Bull?
2.  I bought a cheap Microsoft wireless force feedback wheel off Craigslist.  I was wondering if a wheel is necessary, though.  I think there is a world class racer on youtube named TRL Limitless who uses a control pad.  Is this just personal preference, or do wheel users have an edge?
3.  What is the best technique for getting a fast start at the beginning of a race?
4.  I have not tried changing fuel mixture yet.  My understanding is that this can make the car faster but uses extra fuel.  What situations is this best used for?  Same question for using fuel saving mode.

1.) Red Bull was the best car in 2013. Therefore, do not switch unless you need a challenge.
2.) Personal preference.
3.) Just smash and hold the acceleration button. F1 2013 is not a simulation.
4.) Generally you should burn fuel and set fast lap times if there's no other car in front of you. Overtaking or battling will cost time. There are also some strategical options when to burn fuel, at least it was like that in real F1 season 2013:
 - To do an undercut. Switch to a new sets of tires one or two laps before the car in front pits. Push hard these two laps, gain an advantage and get in front of him after he pitted. 
 - Save fuel when fitted with the prime tires because these are the slower tires. As soon as you pitted for the option tires burn fuel to set your fastest lap times and gain an advantage.

1.) Are you sure you are racing with RedBull and not Toro Rosso? It´s a commom beginner mistake.

yea,I bet your racing with toro rosso not redbull since its the first season.Both have red bull on the car.All of the cars have sudden little difference in feel to them.Different hands position and steering wheel.Try them all and see which one gives you that feeling of holy shit im in a F1 car.Mclaren done it for me in the 2013 game.

Grats on getting the game for free, personally, its my favorite entry to date.

1. Personal preference, but rule of the thumb is, the easier and earlier you unlock a team in career, the further back in the field its native pace will be. The top teams, such as Red Bull don't unlock until you've done a few races with decent success.

2. I'll say this with utmost care, but most "mediocre" players that switch to a wheel will see an improvement when getting used to a wheel. Also, this is where switching off assists starts making a whole lot more sense, such as shifting. There's a more natural feel to it. I think MattyG also uses a pad, but not sure. Some of the AOR members are actually quite brilliant on a pad and will put most people to shame, but there's also a whole new level of commitment involved in getting to their level from easiest, fully assisted settings. 

3. It's all about watching the revs, but as tourgott already said, '13 is fairly forgiving when you just hold down the accelerator unless you're racing other people at a level where every millisecond counts.

4. To add to tourgott once again, it also helps when the condition of your tires change. If you're running on an old set of wheels that are getting worse to fit a certain pit stop window, it can help to set the fuel mix to low since you'll get less tirespin.

Don't run on full revs unless you get something out of it - pushing past another car when you have to or when there's nobody infront of you to ruin your pace.

Later on, when the motions become muscle-memory, you can switch fuel mix when the track physically changes - entering slower, tighter corners, when you pull out to long straights etc. Also, run practice with lots of fuel as well. Not the whole time if you don't want to, but at least long enough so you know how the car performs at the start of races. If the car is heavy and doesn't "feel" right at the beginning, a lot of newer players will lose a ton of time because they keep overshooting corners, which leads to massive tire wear and slower race pace overall.

1    IF  your in redbull stick with if it's torro I would stick with them also
2  I have the same official microsoft wheel  if you need setup advice just ask ie force feed back setting etc pedal setting's etc
3  best  technique for getting a fast start at the beginning of a race   use lean mode before race start's then short shift to 3 rd gear then floor it    lol
4  me personally start race on primes engine on lean  then after pitting for option's  turn engine to rich until race finish   job done B) ..

vettel is redbull    yes

if safety car is out it depends on what lap your on  and when you  was going to pit anyway if its within say 2 laps of when you where pitting then pit ...

What settings do you use for the Microsoft ffb wheel?  I turned the force feedback down to 50%.  It was pulling me off the racing line when driving with 2 wheels of the car off track.  I am sure this is a realistic way for the wheel to react but it was hurting my laptimes.

I finished season one in 5th place.  I won the last 2 races of the season, so for season 2 I bumped up the difficulty settings:
1.  Intermediate difficulty, was amateur
2.  Full damage on
3.  Minimal rules on
4.  Manual shift

Are the engineer's default tire strategies good enough?  I am using default race length.  They seem to have one pit stop per race.  Also wondering if the default tire selections (prime, intermediate, etc) are good enough.

One more question, which color tires are which?  I could not find this info in the manuals that I downloaded for f1 2013 and f1 2010.  I am guessing the tires with blue letters are wet, not sure about the rest.

You have four colours of dry tyre. Red - SuperSoft, Yellow - Soft, White - Medium and Orange - Hard. There will always be two compounds at every race and if you are racing above 25% race distance, you have to use both compounds per race. The exception is if it rains and then you can use whichever you like. 
Green is the intermediate tyre, good for light rain and Blue as you said is for heavy rain. 
What you've got to be a little carful of is remembering how far your dry tyres can go if it's raining at the start of the race so you can work a tyre strategy out based on least amount of stops, but getting the most grip.

I always start the race on prime's and start with the engine on lean and once I have pitted then turn up the engine to rich  I always go for one stop  but if needed you can always do another if needed that is and another forum member' has replied about tyre type's  so I want ...

I was racing yesterday and the announcer guy says, "box box box" when there was a computer car right behind me.  Is he saying to somehow block the car from passing?

Pitbox. Either planned, or you've damaged something!

In a way you are lucky! Great game to get back into it with...don't buy any newer ones and just practice practice practice on that. You put in the time either on pad or wheel and you'll get the pace. Switching to no assists takes more time still but it's very rewarding when racing close. And 13 has the classic content and tracks like someone pointed out. So much fun.

There are fast guys on both pad and wheel. It's all about what you put in. And you can see your pace improve comparing to the good YouTube racers. Then maybe see down the line what they do with 15 from now or 16 next year.

More tire questions: is white prime tire?  Also, is red, orange, and yellow all different types of option tires?

What does it mean when the announcer says something about driving faster because you are using some sort of "scrub" tire?

Do you need to be careful not to do too many laps during practice and qualifying in order to save your tires?  I noticed a few times my tires wearing out before I reach the planned lap for pit stop during the race.  Is there a way to check the tire condition before the race?

I have been trying really hard to do better, but after over 30 hours of gameplay I still usually fail the team objectives for Red Bull.  Amateur difficulty level.  Are they going to kick me off the team?  If so, will I get a contract offer from a lower team?  I wonder if that will be easier since my teammate, Vettel, is really tough to beat.  He is #1 in the season points.  It might be easier to defeat my teammate on a lesser team.  Anyway, they said something in the news clippings about Red Bull being disappointed in my racing performance, so it looks like I am going to be cut from the team.

Each race you go to has two sets of dry tyres. Red is the super soft tyre compound. Yellow is soft, White is medium and orange is hard. Each race has 2 compounds pre selected. This could be for example Red and Yellow at Monaco and Singapore, and Orange and White at Britain. For races over 25% in length you need to use both tyre compounds. The exception to this is if it rains. You can then use any dry tyre (if it drys out). You also have two wet tyres. Green is intermediate for light rain and blue is for heavy rain. 

The scrub tyre is when you've gone out on a tyre you are previously used in the session. The engineer is telling you that you be quicker from the off. 

Also you have three sets of tyres in qualy. Ideally you do one run on the harder of the compound tyre in Q1. Use the softer compound in Q2, note you use the tyre to start the race you set the fastest time in Q2 so do one timed lap and don't do anymore. (Unless you have to) Then Q3 use a new set of soft to set your qualy pace. Possible use another new set for a second time. 

In the garage if you select the tyre screen to the right it'll give you how many laps each tyre can last. They will drop off before and you will lose grip. On race day that screen will give you the strategy for the race.

.The dry tires.prime is the hardest(longer lasting) of the two colors you are allowed to use for that race,option is the softer(wears faster) of the two colors used for that race.Even though there are a white,red,yellow and orange.Only two of those colors are you allowed to use in any particular race depending on how hard the track surface is on tire wear.
