RS30 wheel or MVH cosmetic upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. Just looking for thoughts on what to do wheel-wise. I play on Xbox and have a logitech G920 and having given up on the Fanatec dream for now, I have been using a custom 3d printed wheel which actually added to the experience more than I was expecting, but it was a dodgy print so it broke. So I'm considering either replacing it with a MVH studios F1 wheel (new version due imminently I believe) or taking a risk and investing in one of these, I just worry about the support / game compatibility:

Less than half the price of a fanatec setup but probably as compatible (or not as the case may currently be) with this particular game. Thoughts?

(I'd love a PC/Fanatec setup, but all my mates are on xbox and it's simply unattainable as things stand)

Take the old MVH wheel broken bits without the handles bolted to it (Just the flat plate part of it)  to a metal laser cutting specialist and ask if they can cut you that shape out of some aluminium or steel plate about 3mm thick. Now you have a wheel again, Paint it satin black or have it powder coated/ vinyl wrap it with carbon effect or whatever you want

Or do it yourself with hand tools from a sheet of alnuminimunm.

That Wheel and pedal set looks like it could be good value only problem is your import duties and shipping cost to you if you're outside of the USA.

@Rango, when you say MVH F1 wheel, do you mean the new quick release wheels they’re planning to announce soon, or do you mean their F1 rims/mods?

In either case, it might be better to wait and see to what level the RS30 and new MVH wheels are supported in F1 - should be able to get confirmation from Codemasters fairly easily once they are released. If neither are supported (or supported at the minimum level - same as the G920), then getting an MVH rim might be the way to go.

Would also add, it looks as though the RS30 has a standard button set. The only inputs that may not be supported are the RSB/LSB “clutch” paddles - so it could be a similar scenario to the G920.

Btw, I had a MVH F1 rim (with the suede grips) for my G923 - it was well made and good value for money. I’d definitely recommend as it did improve the gaming experience.

Yeah, by MVH I mean the newer F1 rim they are due to release any minute now... (have been waiting a few weeks now tho since he said it would be released). It's having a refresh similar to what they did with the gt wheel (might even just get one of those instead). I love how a 'cosmetic' upgrade dramatically changes how driving feels with the g920. I agree with the RS30, looks good for the price, but it's likely to have the same issues with lsb/rsb.

Well in the end I've gone for the MVH now that it's out. Cracking looking wheel add on and actual carbon face these days apparently.. Just couldn't justify the extra for an untested wheel and pedals, as nice as it would have been to have a capture button. Just gotta wait now..
