Left- or right-hand-drive cars

That would require making and getting sign-off on two models of every car in a game, which isn't feasible I'm afraid.

Why is that exactly? I know that the cars are based on real life examples, but we can upgrade them, tune them and choose from several liveries, so why not simply mirroring the dashboard and give us the option between LHD/RHD as well?

Mirroring an asset is a big no-no in terms of brand approvals. If you want it done you need to convince them all 😉

The thing about licensed cars is that we are representing their brand, and they want their brand represented in a certain way, typically the same way it's represented in reality.

Sure, but the Escort Mk II and Ascona 400, just to name a couple examples, were both available with LHD in reality, weren’t they? Are the licensing demands so tough that you can’t make two versions of the same car? I mean, it's the exact same car, but with the steering wheel on the other side.

Sorry, I don’t wanna be bothersome, but I just don’t get it, and it is a quite frustrating issue, as it affects the gameplay for some of my favorite cars.

I understand, however simply mirroring an asset is a no-go, and adding or changing to the other side of the car is as much work as getting a whole new car in (save for some minor things).

It's not a licensing restriction to go out and get another version of the car to recreate, but it is a production issue. Why spend however many hundred man-hours making a new car (and trust me, it's not as easy as hitting the "flip image" button) unless it's a unique one?

We don't have the budget of Polyphony/Sony to add dozens of Nissan Skyline variants afterall 😉

Fair enough. Well, in that case there should at least be some sort of consistency in my opinion. Like in Gran Turismo, where Japanese and British cars are RHD and the rest are LHD, but that’s just an opinion.

Edit: By the way. Thank you for replying so quickly, I appreciate it! 👍

I believe all of the cars are based on the real car represented by the default (or first) livery. Hence why the 1995 Impreza is left-hand drive, just like the one McRae drove, even though the driver and manufacturer were from right-hand drive countries.

That's correct.

Every car is typically sourced from a real rally car, though for some of the more modern ones manufacturers will send us CAD files which are even more accurate than us scanning by hand.
