Disconnecting from unranked races

Recommended Posts

  • A detailed description of the issue.
    • For the past few months I have been unable to spectate or race in any unranked races. When I join an unranked game, I eventually get kicked off with the message "Error - Lost Connection to Playstation Network" even though my connection is fine. This only happens in this game and I'm not sure what triggered it as I was able to play online a few months ago.
  • Platform
    • PS4
  • What version of the game you are using (Shown on the start screen in the bottom left corner of the screen)
    • 1.18
  • Ranked/Unranked/Leagues
    • Unranked
  • Wired or Wireless Connection?
    • Wireless
  • The amount of players in your session?
    • 20
  • Were you the host?
    • No
  • Did this issue happens for everyone in the session, just some people or just yourself? What did they see?
    • No, just me
  • We need to be able to make your problem happen internally so we can fix the issue. Can you make the problem happen again?
    • N/A - not sure how it could be replicated
  • How do you make the problem happen?
    • N/A - not sure how it could be replicated. Seems to be just for me.
  • Can you add a report code. How to find this is in Main Menu > Game Options > Settings > 16 digit code in the bottom left of the screen. Please make sure that this is the code from the session you had the issue in. Adding report codes from as many users in your session as possible would be really helpful here.
    • AJJJ-JVPH-MCJG-BASC
  • Video of the issue, including timestamps. Did you stream the session?
    • See attached video 14 seconds in (not streamed)

Also, this game used to work without port forwarding but I tried this as well to see if it would help but doesn't seem to work. Ports are correctly forwarded though as it has made NAT Type Open in other games whilst still remaining Type 2 on PS4.

Hi @DStarkyy,

Have you got a wired connection to trail out stability on? This may be a connection issue with the host possibly. With it being 20 players on a wireless connection, it'd be interesting to know if this has happened to you/before/regularly.

Hi @BarryBL,

I'm not sure the amount of players is the main cause. As it happens to me regardless of the amount players and it's every unranked game for me unfortunately.

I could try to test a wired connection but I don't think it would be feasible for long term. Nonetheless, it would be a good test as you say so I'll see if I can try it. It's strange though as it has only been happening the last few months and I don't think my wireless is bad as I stay connected in other games etc.

Thanks

Hi @DStarkyy,

Thanks for the feedback. So its happening to you often, regardless of game mode? Can you connect to Unranked and go through a session okay? Are you running a VPN perhaps, and do you experience connectivity issues with other games at all?

Hi @BarryBL

Yeah, I can connect to unranked, pick my driver etc but as soon as the racing begins it just kicks me out with the error message. Also, even if I just try to join a lobby to spectate it kicks me out. I tried ranked and was able to play against another person but unfortunately I can't find many ranked games to really test this properly.

I'm not running a VPN and based in UK. Connectivity with other games is fine, it just seems to be f1 2020 (I don't have any of the older games to test either).

Thanks

Hi @DStarkyy,

Strange. I'll get the network team to investigate your report code. If/when you try again, if you can get me another report code, that would be great. Just so we have 2 to compare with 👍

Hi @BarryBL,

I tested the game with a wired connection and same result as you can see in the attached video.

Report Code: EARK-DDMR-TDJG-BASC

Thanks

As a general note, if you see the 'sparklies' in this video in ANY session, even if it's just one player, it means your connectivity to them is not good. Starting a session with anything other than the '-' or green '' means you're not going to have a good time. Restarting your router and console or PC is advisable.

Noted, but it seems it doesn't matter even when the host has green bars. I was thinking it might be some type of firewall issue. Though, I think i've forwarded the correct ports as mentioned in my first message as it opens them correctly for other games. It's quite strange as I used to be able to play online before okay and without having to port forward at all. Would technical support have access to system logs from the report code that might point to the issue?

Thanks

Reporting the error codes is good practice when comparing sessions. @BarryBL may be able to highlight if there is anything noticeable in the session information.

My point is your connection to the host may be okay, but your connection to the 'sparkly' players isn't. It's a peer to peer game. The host is *very* important, but AIUI the players nearest you on track also update you with position info.
