why do my tyres go off the cliff way before the AI?

Recommended Posts

i dont lock them up i dont wheel spin them, but i do attack the curbs but so do the AI, and i usually have to pit a lap or two before the ai, and thats pushing it, at that point they're already lapping 1 or 2 seconds quicker than me what can i do to fix this? in 100% races i have to just completely add in a 3rd pit stop rather than 2

Weird, I'm doing a career mode with Vettel and the tyre deg isn't too bad .. It depends on your setup as well, a more aggressive camber and toe setup can affect particularly tyre wear at certain tracks.

It's oversteer/understeer. You slide too much into the corners, take it easier in the high speed corners. Turn in a little less when you accelerate during cornering. I used to have the same issues, now I'm 5-10% better on tyres then the ai. Start a practice session, keep the temperature menu up (if you're on pc or ps4, or finally got the xbone update), and try to keep the temperatures in check.
Example, in Australia, you have to take turn 5 full power, if you have too much turn in, your front left will be bright red when you hit the curb on the left. If you do the corner right, you can actually keep the front left yellow. It's like this in most high speed corners.
It shouldn't matter what car you use btw. If you do a practice session, do 10 laps, return to the garage, and see how many laps or still on the tyres. There is a clear target for you to aim for, if you didn't make the target, try again. It's really just a matter of practicing, tyrewear isn't scripted, so it's something you'll have to practice now.
I used to get punctures every race, after practicing and working on it, never had a tyrewear-induced punture again.

Thanks for the tip :)

For every corner, there is a sweet spot on how much to turn in. If you turn in too much, your tyre will heat up a lot, and you'll feel a rumble on your pad, or, i imagine, force feedback on your wheel. During a practice session, it's important to find that spot, because if you slide, you don't just lose rubber btw, you lose time as well. It's important to not get oversteer/understeer. And then when you do get some oversteer, you can just go, "oh, got some understeer here, need to be careful", and it'll give you a tiny amount of tyrewear increase (tiny, because some oversteer is not as bad as massive uncontrolled oversteer). The game allows you to make plenty of those tiny mistakes, and still be slightly better then AI on tyres, you don't have to be perfect, just try to be, is typically good enough.

Just completed my 1st race on 100% in australia and i had a left front punchure but i had it on like the 16 lap on softs so in the end i went to a 3 stopper and no problems. Does anyone find that especailly on the harder tyres that u lose some grip then it comes back later.

This may just be for me but I use a pad (PS4 btw) and I've found that reducing your tyre pressures to 17.0-17.2 helped me go an extra few laps on the option tyres on my first stint in Australia. Using my normal setup with higher tyre pressures I had to pit on the end of lap 5 (50% race) but with the lower tyre pressures I pitted on the end of lap 7 just before I started losing too much time

Wow that's weird it says on the tyre pressure screen that increasing pressure makes it harder for them to heat up and that they will degrade slower for the cost of grip or something like that, I'll be sure to try it, hopefully I can have good tyre wear for Malaysia, since it's the next league race

Most tracks are fine for me. Hungary and Spa the option compound is pretty bad, but otherwise it's fine.

I do drive with pretty extreme toe and camber though, so I expect it.

i think the tire wear is way better than in previous games. Of course a player will wear out before the AI if you're balls out the entire time.

Assuming  you're not playing in hardcore mode, you can open the car swipe by pressing the "Info" button (default to Circle / B / NumPad 0 ).
On the damage view you get a live feed of the damage on your car and can see what wears your tires down for yourself.
Tyre wear is scaled up by 50% in anything shorter than a 100% race but barring that it's completely dynamic
