A certain Electronic Entertainment Expo taking place this past weekend has certainly made it feel like 2021’s gaming summer is well and truly underway. Whilst keeping a cursory eye on the big shows, trailers, and reveals, the team here at Codemasters have been working diligently to make sure this summer (and beyond) has its fix of racing games excellence. The Racing Line, of course, is here to keep you abreast of what we’re up to.

This time around, we’re putting a big focus on the small matter of F1® 2021’s upcoming launch! We also have DIRT 5 and Codemasters DiRT Rally Team news to update you on, but first off, let’s dig into the latest F1® 2021 trailer, and so much more…

F1® 2021

IT’S NEARLY HERE! F1® 2021 is less than a month away, and we could not be more excited for its arrival. Yesterday, we released the Features Trailer, giving you a brief glimpse into Braking Point, our brand-new story mode. You can see the trailer in all its glory (and featuring Royal Blood’s awesome ‘Typhoons’) right here.

To whet your appetite for F1® 2021’s imminent arrival, here’s a rundown of what you can get your hands on come July 16th (or July 13, if you’ve pre-ordered the digital Deluxe Edition):

Every story has a beginning
Start with one of five teams and rise from the ranks of F2™ to the heights of F1®. Immerse yourself in a combination of on and off-track moments through three seasons, with a mix of racing action and dramatic cutscenes, alongside a new cast, as well as the familiar face of Devon Butler.

Two-Player Career
We’ve added a brand-new way to play with our two-player Career mode: whether you want to work together and play cooperatively or compete against each other, with contract offers and team switches available, the choice is yours!

Real-Season Start
F1® 2021’s ‘Real-Season Start’ feature lets you jump into this season’s action, reflecting the live standings, and take over and drive the remaining races.

New Season Driver Stats
F1® 2020 introduced driver stats and a driver market to the franchise. With these, you could compare F1® and F2™ drivers based on Experience, Racecraft, Awareness, Pace and Overall Rating. This year, we’re expanding both the stats, with a new Focus attribute, and expanding the market by adding seven iconic drivers included in the digital Deluxe Edition.

More Accessible Racing
Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or new to the Formula 1® game, we’ve got more options than ever with F1® 2021’s Casual, Standard or Expert game modes. If you’ve never played an F1® game before, Casual mode could be perfect for you. For those who have won a number of virtual world championships in your time, ‘Expert’ will be an excellent place to start your F1® 2021 journey, with a highly customisable experience.

Over here in the world of DIRT 5, we’re gearing up for a summer of thrills…

January of this year may already seem like an age ago, but it was back then that we made a commitment delivering a wide variety of additional content to our off-road racer, including both free content and exclusives for Amplified/Year One Edition players. Whilst plenty of that has dropped in the first half of the year, there’s plenty more on the way.

Additional cars, more tracks, community-requested additions, and so much more are on the way in the coming weeks and months, with our biggest updates still to come. Over on Reddit, our latest community update provides a little more info on what’s to come – as soon as we have confirmation on dates and content, our usual social channels will have all the info, images, and videos you’ll need.

In the meantime, there are plenty of community challenges to get involved in, such as our DIRT 5 photo mode contests on Mondays and Time Trial challenges on Wednesdays. Our shortlist of player-taken photos, to be added to DIRT 5 in a future update as loading screens, are also live, with a final selection to be announced soon. Good luck to our virtual photographers!

Jon Armstrong vs ERC Rally Poland

This weekend Codemasters’ Jon Armstrong will be taking part in Rally Poland. No, not in the Codemasters DiRT Rally Team car, but an all-new Ford Fiesta Rally3! Following his successes in Junior WRC this season, the crew at M-Sport Poland offered him a driver in their latest rally car, a slightly more beefed-up version of what he’s been driving so far.

For all the latest updates, check out the FIA ERC’s Twitter page throughout the rally weekend. Best of luck, Jon!
