Insist, Lobby, Demand an Offline Career Mode for DR3... Why? This!

Ubisoft DRM Breaks Might & Magic X: Legacy Single-Player, DLC (kotaku.com.au)

A single-player game from 2014 has had its functionality broken as Ubisoft shut down the game's servers. You now can't play the game you paid for, beyond the first chapter.

"But so what, by the time that happens for DR [2.0, 3.0, whatever] the next iteration would be out anyway"

And what if the next iteration has its handling gimped, dumbed down, or whatever else a giant like EA might decide?

What if it's 8 years later and the only game in the series that you love is now disconnected?

Single player games with online-only functionality is an utter disgrace, and in fact should be made illegal. Relax, I'm only being serious.

Update: You can no longer purchase Forza 6 for your Xbox online.

If you realise you preferred that game over the overblown sequel with its obnoxious un-skippable trash tv intros to everything, you're outta luck, unless you buy a physical copy. And games in future won't come in physical versions at all. If Dirt Rally goes the direction of Dirt, Grid and Project Cars (three of their other game series and I have no idea about F1), ie gets dumbed down handling and Fortnite level eye-bleeding graphics, chances are you'll never play a good rally game again in the future as you'll be stuck with the 'current iteration'.

That may be PJ, but I don't see how it changes the fundamental point.

Whatever the reason, licenses or otherwise, a just over 5 year old game is now unavailable digitally, and for ever more. In future, you wouldn't have had a chance to buy a physical copy, either.

"Eh, just get the latest version" is going to work really well when the latest version of your favourite game is dumbed down to heck.

It's a bit different to my initial point about an offline career mode, granted, but it's tied to the same basic problem. Accepting on-line as the only method of delivery and especially accepting on-line validation for single-player content, will make any game you love last as long as Rachel in Blade Runner.

"4 year lifespan. It's too bad she won't live"

For Rally at least, you hopefully shouldn't have to worry about that 😉

Ah, but how can we be sure?

From what you've played, is there perhaps an offline career mode? Any key elements within?

How about... Which new countries are in?

Release date window?

Come now. We're your faithful...

You might want to add another question to that list:

"If you answer any of these, how long before you get sacked?" 😉

When it's time to talk about "future stuff", you'll know about it. Not a moment sooner.
