Any GTX 970 owners?

Recommended Posts

Why not just use the built-in benchmark for that? It's Wales, and hence not nearly as crippling as RX, but it's an exact benchmark that everyone who owns this game can compare with. If you and someone else do it on 1080p on Ultra, you should have a very good comparison.

I have a gtx 970 and I've experienced fps drop in RX, but I've gained some fps using Game Booster. I guess it's due to my processor (intel i5-3330 @ 3.00 GHz). In rally I can play easily in ultra around 70-80 fps)

Just don't push the MSAA to unrealistic levels and it should be good. I think the "crowd" setting can be even set to lowest, cuz I don't have time to look at people :P

i just leave the graphics at what it sets it too default.

from what i seen in here some have lower speed cpus so probably bottle necking.

Realistically the crowd just adds a lot of completely unnecessary geometry. Hence why most games use sprites.

According to MSI Afterburner, my CPU load goes to max. 70%, with an old i5-750

Crowd is very low poly modeled and has very light textures. The impact over performance is very small.

Even low poly tends to add up. Texture quality isn't the biggest issue, but each person in the crowd can add a couple thousand faces to the geometry.

Id say the V-Sync is the main and only reason for lower FPS with a 970, it seems to lock to 60FPS.
I tried mine last night, & the i3 should be a definite bottleneck and its running 90-120fps steady & 1080p, with vsync off.  That's with in-game default Ultra and the Control panel using a 1.25 DSR upscale factor.

I can actually get 55+FPS with Advanced blending on, but cant really see much difference really.

you dont want v sync on.using dsr also can cause issues. mouse lag and slight odd feeling.

Admin can move the thread if needs be. I'm thinking abandoning my R9 280x for a GTX 970 to get stutter free RX. My card goes below 60 fps on the gravel parts. You guys that own 970's, do you have any drops below 60 maxed out?
I have a 970, never had a single stutter.
play maxed out, except advanced rendering off and shader detail low (because motion blur).

Yeah, the vsync really helped with micro-stutter when using the wrong monitor cable (HDMI), but got that sorted with the DVI cable and switched it off again.
Everything else is just default and recommended setting and runs perfect so far!

Compared to my old Phenom ii x4 and GTX550Ti on a 19" monitor, its honestly like playing a different game!

I was wondering if somebody could tell me whether or not a 960 or 970 would be compatible with my Gigabyte B85-HD3 mobo:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4566#ov

I have a 750 Ti right now, and it's pretty similar in size so it'll fit in my case, but I was wondering about the other stuff, such as the 960 being ATX 2 slot.

Thanks :]

DSR engaged alone won't change anything. What it does, it gives you option to select a higher than the native resolution in the game settings. For example, I have 1.76x and 4.00x factors enabled, which means on my 1080p monitor I can select 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 resolutions from the game settings (effectively 1440p and 4K).

When it comes to GPU's, the only thing a motherboard needs to have, is a PCIe x16 slot, though speed wise even x8 will be enough. As long as a motherboard has that (in other words, a port to which you can plug the GPU into) there isn't such a thing as "compatibility with motherboards" when it comes to GPUs.

More simple explanation: If your 750Ti works, any graphics card that is less than 8 years old will work.

Cheers pal. Can't remember what model I have (currently out of the house), but it's enough I know that much. Before I had the 750 Ti I had a more power hungry card, so with my current setup the PSU is overkill.

My bios is up to date, too, so I should be good to go :]
Gonna throw in the order now, and hopefully I'll have it before I go away for the weekend.

If it's 500W at least, you're good to go, even if it may be some cheap brand (though, a rule of a thumb, don't buy cheap PSU's). If it has 80+ on it... you're good to go for more than sure.
In any case, you'll be having quite a power jump. Waiting for the Pascal to come out may have been a better choice for an upgrade, but that's waiting for about 4-6 months. Still, 970 is never a bad choice :D

Because of the types of games I play, I'm more interested in the 960 given the price, and I understand that the 4GB 960 is a huge performance jump over the 2GB 750 Ti (kinda obvious), so for my personal needs it's a justified purchase, instead of paying more for the 970 when I don't really need something that good.

I basically checked reviews to make sure that the 960 was a big enough jump from the 750 to make the upgrade worthwhile. Just got to decide on the model now, but probably gonna go with Gigabyte.

Yep, I believe that is exactly what it has done funnily enough!  Because the game looks good & the Steam friends pop-up in the bottom right looks tiny! lol

@craicbear - get it done, I am actually astonished at the level of detail thats in this game that I was missing out on (though you probably manage it ok with the 750).

I must install Project Cars later too, I'm sure it'll look all nice 'n' all now too!

It's going to be about 60-75% faster than a 750Ti, more if you'll be overclocking it (even a small OC is a must IMO, free extra performance at no additional cost after all). When it comes to brands, GIGABYTE does't have the best reputation when it comes to reliability, EVGA has best customer support, ASUS is ASUS and MSI is the one to go for if you want a card that will basically never fail. Aka indestructible. The "Military Grade" may be just PR talk, but their stuff is as reliable as it gets on the PC hardware market.

Did you by chance called GeForce Experience the "nVidia control panel" yet again? Those are like... two different things. If you did mean GFE, then it didn't really "enable" the DSR factors, it just by itself forced a higher resolution to the game, even though you normally wouldn't have that as an option in-game.

Thanks for the info :]

I've been okay with Gigabyte in the past (touch wood), and the user reviews on the card seem to be about 99% positive, so I'm gonna take the leap! I'm tight on spare funds right now as well, so the £30-odd price difference is a big thing for me!

Thanks again for your help :D
Fortunately the card is available for Amazon Prime order, so I should have it tomorrow!

You know me too well @RyuMakkuro  :)   In fairness, it was late when I got everything going, so I am quite tired now

Yes, the 'Experience' has turned all that gear up for me, works well in this instance, where previously with the 550Ti, it killed the whole thing on me and got uninstalled.
