Yisc 0 Posted December 24, 2017 Unbelievable the ammount of spam that comes on every time around the same period of the year.Reporting all of it, is impossible at the moment as it's just too much.

Reporting isn't needed, we can see it, don't worry! The only problem is that the Codies staff aren't here (it is Christmas Eve) and us three moderators only have basic tools with which to deal with it.

Ho3n3r 0 Posted December 27, 2017 "Recent Discussions" has become pretty useless with all the spam. First 8 pages just spam, before you get to the first non-spam post.
shadow118 8 Posted December 27, 2017 This is just ridiculous - 600 pages of spam in the Codemasters - General Discussion thread
f1since08 17 Posted December 27, 2017 I'm afraid it's a bit beyond what we're capable of dealing with, we don't get any admin tools to use in situations like this so it depends when the staff get back as to when it's dealt with.
SkiddyMcCrash 18 Posted December 29, 2017 We were here for 4 hours after my last post, deleting and banning another 30 pages of accountsHalf an hour later and the site looked like we hadn't done anything, again. If it was down to me I'd be messaging a few of the companies the spammer is working for, asking them how their adverts for their North American universities ended up being adverstised on an English gaming website, in Korean. Korean speaking gamers in the US must be a huge market...
Yisc 0 Posted December 29, 2017 I don't know if anyone is in the position to arrange it, but I am willing to help cleaning the forum.

None of us can organise that and it's somewhat pointless anyway - we can delete all of the spam but until Codies get the prevention working it's a losing battle. Videogamer13 0 Posted January 1, 2018 I'm back now, and sorry for inactive for ages due to real-life job. That's unbelievable when I see a lot of spams in this forums. :( It also happened to the other forums where I was a moderator, and keep fighting against spammers. I hope Codies will do something to stop it asap. We will never give up until the spammers are defeated.

Videogamer13 0 Posted January 2, 2018 Can any admins or community founder just ban their IP?

ChristinaMc 60 Posted January 3, 2018 Videogamer13 said: Can any admins or community founder just ban their IP? Yes, the banning can be done based on IP - but we don't have the option to remove all banned user by IP content as an action... So that's all manual. You should see it drastically reducing! And as Didzis said, the IPs keep changing...
Videogamer13 0 Posted January 5, 2018 Thank god! Finally we have just defeated the spambots. No more spam! The forum community is now peaceful.
shadow118 8 Posted January 6, 2018 The spam is back :( Also, you missed GRID Technical Assistance, there's still 4 pages of spam from December

huckleberrypie 0 Posted January 12, 2018 Well you could use an IP blacklist e.g. Stop Forum Spam amongst others. That can cut down on spam registrations significantly from what I can attest.
shadow118 8 Posted January 12, 2018 Add a captcha or something, it's way too easy to register a new account here. You don't even need an e-mail confirmation before you can post a comment, I mean c'mon huckleberrypie said: Well you could use an IP blacklist e.g. Stop Forum Spam amongst others. UP100 56 Posted January 13, 2018 Yeah captcha and email confirmation would be great ways to try to fight against spam.

IP blacklist won't do anything against a dynamic IP Explain this then:I have an IP blacklist installed on my forum and it cut down on spam registrations significantly, to the point that I rarely even get junk registrations at all. Also to consider are suggestions outlined here at MediaWiki: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Combating_spam#IP_address_blacklists
Ho3n3r 0 Posted August 14, 2018 Spam again. I would've thought there would be a permanent solution by now.
BelgiumDude 0 Posted August 19, 2018 Why don't you make the first post a new user types checked manually? If the post is not complaining about a bug, demanding a new future to be implemented in a patch that has to come out in 2 weeks or else or asking about pre-orders it's a fake account :p
