So I just can't see why this new game engine has turned everything into a "Columbus Project" for people who are supposed to be experts. I still truly believe it has a lot to do with desire.
There is no lack of desire, it's all to do with loading the files quickly. There are technical reasons for this but my understanding is a few big files will load more quickly than a lot of small ones because you're doing less seeking on the hard disk.

I'll have a look at the slipstream / AI being too quick on straights myself today.
@Lozzy, I can't see where "slipstream" comes into the equation. If you are doing lets say 180mph at the first part of a staightaway and you are, we'll say 3/4 of a second behind the car in front, that's around 198 feet back. there is no way you can start slipstreaming an F1 racing care from that distance back. You need raw power to catch up and get into his draft and that is what is happening. As an example, take a look at the acceleration of a lesser AI car against your Ferrari or a Mercedes out of turn 10 and its speed down the Casino Straight at Montreal.

Edit: I'm on PC by the way.

Look at Ferrari this year with Vettel lapping with Kimi quite far back getting the "long range slipstream".

The closer you get the bigger the effect from slipstream and the lower drag in the wake of the car in front, with the effect starting very weakly from some set distance back and increasing exponentially i guess. And the opposite in the turns in the turbulent air if too close.

To the one guy who says his McLaren was losing out to.the Renault engine and would be crossing the finish line when the other car was entering turn 1, that sounds like one of the more realistic things this year (if 2015 season at least...)  :open_mouth:

Yes, but there's a limit to that distance, an F1 car is aerodynamically designed to "cut" through the air, meaning there is an absolute minimum of draft wake left behind it. An over exadjurated example of this would be the slipstream effect of a tractor/ trailer on the highway. The distance that the benefit of slipstream exists in this scenario is huge, but still has its limits and deminishes exponentially.

The effect of the slipstream at 70 metres back at 180mph would be quite strong. You'll close up soon enough at that speed. You might not get the OVERTAKE done. But you will be slipstreaming. You dont necessarily need "more power" to close the gap, as the point is you're using less power in the other cars wake. so you have more power available to close up.

Behind the tractor/trailer you'll be using less power to maintain the same speed then if it wasnt there. At those speeds the effect would be more about you stressing the engine less, lowered mpg. Hypermiling. Inside wheels on the white line :)
