Artifacts on screen with GTX 980 on Windows 10

Recommended Posts

I've recently built a new computer, and whilst at first my suspicions lie with a faulty GPU, I thought it'd be wise to post here first before I send it back.

These artifacts take the form of black squares in a perfect grid pattern. They usually show the most on top of an object 100m away. The horizon is generally unaffected. The road close to the camera is also mostly clear. The car will be infested. Here is what I typically get when playing:

If I turn off MSAA (x4), or select the other one which I forget the name of at the moment, then the blackness disappears, but the artifacts are still there. (Look at the back of the car if you cant see)

And if I turn MSAA back on, but change the Shader Quality from High to Very Low, I get white artifacts instead. It only does this on Very Low:

System Spec
Intel Core i7-5820K
MSI X99S Motherboard
16GB Corsair Dominator DDR4 RAM @ 2133MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 @ 1920x1080 60Hz HDMI
Windows 10 64-bit

Steps to reproduce
I turn on my computer and play. No warm-up time. Same severity each play.

Which graphics preset were you using?
Ultra

Hello CJXD

Please try verifying the Integrity of the game cache.

Right Click on DiRT Rally in Steam > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache

Also try  installing the latest nvidia graphics driver.

Thanks

The graphics driver has been updated again, DiRT has been verified (and updated!).

Still the same issue.

Did you used the "proper/succesful instalation" option during driver install?
That resets to default settings all driver settings.

16GB Corsair Dominator DDR4 RAM @ 2133MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 @ 1920x1080 60Hz HDMI

Hi CJxD

I have been playing Rally X using X99 and a i7 5960X along with the GTX 980 in Windows 10 64bit and didn't reproduce this issue on the Ultra Preset.

Okay thanks DeputyDiRT. I'll take this to confirm my suspicions of a faulty card.

My seller on eBay, imdweener, was really kind and came over to let me try his GTX 980, which immediately showed no artefacts. He let me keep his one - what a star!
