Team Meeting - Dnote's Notes 01/10/15

Recommended Posts

Just had a race in spain 2014 season, I was able to qualify 7 with Max Chilton (way ahead of Bianchi) nonw of this was mentioned by the commenrarty team that a marrusia got in the top ten,and in the race half the teams did more than 6 pit stops meaning despite having fairly slow race pace compared to the higher mid teams I was able to land 9th as I did a 3 stopper.

Something sounds very wrong here :/

Yeah we're aware of that . My understanding is that to fix it we would need to change each track and that's a LOT of data so it's not going to happen this year.
why would you have to do that for something so simple? I'm curious to know.

It does seem a few potential fixes to known issues have been nixed because the track database would need updated. Seems a bit of an oversight to handicap you're ability to make fixes as needed?

Hello,
is it possible to add splitscreen multiplayer to F1 2015? or at least F1 2016? There are no racing games with this feature on PS4 right now.  Does the new game engine support this feature?
Thanks for an answer.

I'm glad to know you're going to make adjustments to AI performance which is great! AI this year is the best but I think it can still improve quite a lot. I hope it's possible in the future to make AI drivers taking different racing lines instead of every single driver taking the same path on the track, it's unrealistic and a bit boring as the AI is somewhat predictable at some places.

For the AI behaving differently than all taking the same line...

why is there no line of code that simply says line deviation = x

this way an inexperienced or not great driver could have a line deviation of 20% while hamilton would be 1%.

something simple like this would get all drivers taking different lines.

if you further detailed it you could simply say
line deviation above =
line deviation below =
line deviation beyond =
line deviation before =

now you could have corner cutters and wide men, early and late and so on.

Surely this is already in the game.

I hope that Codemasters can make good use of it as to make drivers taking different racing lines and making them make mistakes (e.g. failing braking points, taking corners too wide, etc) to make them much more unpredictable and harder/easier to overtake depending on the situation.

And if you see the penalty board, the player is the only one that gets warnings or penalties for cutting corners or not respecting track limits. I think the AI should have this too as it would be useful for penalties and much more realistic.

For example, Alonso finished 10th in Russia but because he didn't respect the track limits (or cut a corner, not I'm not really sure which one it was) at a corner he was penalised with 5 seconds and ended up finishing 11th.

Split screen requires a lot of changes to the games renderer (that's the system that puts what you see on the screen basically) and that's a massive system to change. There are then further tasks like optimising the tracks so we can run at a reasonable framerate. Honestly, it's a hell of a lot of work for a feature that's not likely to appeal to many people according to our historical data about how many races were played in that mode. That's probably the case for the other racing games that don't support it either.

So, in all likelihood this isn't going to be something that appears in the F1 games in the future. Sorry.

We package the games files up on to bigger volumes to make loading as quick as possible. When it comes to changing things with a track that means we have to factor in that 'cost' to the player of the download in terms of bandwidth and time and frankly for a light being the wrong colour which most people wouldn't even notice it's simply not worth it for 99% of people. If there was a hole in the track on the racing line then obviously that's a very different decision, it's just a case of taking everything on it's merits.

Thanks for this, but this all sounded like 'We sold a game that would get continuous season updates, but they are much work so we will implement it on a new game next year.'
For someone that has bought all F1 games from Codemasters (and many other series from Codemasters), it feels like a kick in the guts.

No patch for XB1 due? I'm sure people are still having issues on that platform too ....

I personally am just waiting for the achievement to be fixed, still no update from MS (that you are willing/able to share) I take it?

There will be another patch for Xbox One at some point. As I keep saying once there are solid details they will be forthcoming.

As I have said before if you have the achievement in the unlocking (I think that's right off the top of my head) state then it requires Microsoft to fix.

Sorry, I did not know English and the translator can be misunderstood something !!
If for multiplayer action is required Microsoft , we have to talk about you with them , we have purchased the product for good !! if you already knew that did not work it did not have to put it on the market !!
If you contact with Microsoft , spoken also to put back a compatible F1 , 2014, 2013 , so if you really goes wrong , we use an old game to play multiplayer !! with 2015 in these conditions it is not possible

The thing that is so sad; this was the game codemasters needed to redeem themselves, to give us hope for the future and not look back at the past bad games, it was highly hyped like this and it didn't deliver. If we knew this before it released, I think everyone would have asked not to even bother to release it, but yet, still here we are, playing the game... Huge respect for those. Don't get me wrong, I actually still enjoy the game, I (we) just expected more

"At some point" do you have any idea of how lazy and unprofessional that sounds come on guys at codemasters where is the passion it's why you guys have failed time and again because you are just not passionate about what your doing you just mass produce and churn out half arsed products there is no pride in what you do

@Lozzy Re: updating the track databases or whatever, I didn't really care about the pit light, elsewhere I thought it had been alluded to that to update the corner cutting recognition, update tracks to match real life changes, the track files would need updated, and it was 20GB worth of files or something.

People would be willing to download a 20gb update to get the game going. I can't remember how many times I re-installed pCars at this point, at least 4 anyways. To get the game working I think there is quite a lot people would be willing to do.

While playing the game I don't really see a visible racing line where grip is on the tarmac mid race. Marbles  dirt and puddles of water should form while running off the racing line. Is this something that can be added for 2015 if not F1 2016?

In previous games we had the option to set penalties to realistic, reduced, corner-cutting only, & off. Why was this option removed? It seems unreasonable to remove something that was available in previous games.
Those options are something that didn't get implemented for this game it's something that I raised internally a little while back.

So, on the subject of hoppers and doing what we can with what we have at the moment to make your experience better, if we removed the AI from Standard and Hardcore and removed the assist restrictions from Hardcore would that be better than what we have now?

Dnote, please can you advise on full practice sessions in quick race mode please?

It was a decision made a while back for reasons I cannot remember now. I noticed it wasn't available the other day, I'll see if I can get that reinstated because to me personally it doesn't make sense to not have it in Quick Race so the player can decide exactly what they want.

Hi @Lozzy

It's just occurred to me that should you bring back FP1, 2 and 3 in a future patch, we'll also need the full 13sets of dry tyres as well please.

Thanks

Can you let us know the community who buy your titles in future that the safety car feature which was brought in for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 will be brought into next years game, just a small request.

There is one thing regarding penalties that has to be fixed.  If a driver gets a poor start, or is just working their way through the pack and there is a crash just ahead of you and you are going too fast to slow down, a yellow flag will come out saying "no passing during a yellow".  By the time the yellow flag comes out you have already passed the crash, and you will get a penalty unless you allow the crashed cars to re-pass you.  This makes absolutely no sense at all.  Yes, if a yellow flag is deployed down the track ahead of you, then you can watch for the flag and make sure you don't pass in this area, but when two or three cars crash right in front of you and you are going way to fast to react to the yellow flag, you will get a penalty for passing under yellow conditions.  The only option for you is to pull over to the side of the track and wait until the cars pass you back, and that can take quite awhile based on how quickly the cars that have crased can get back on the track and get going again.  I have received so many penalties for this one issue and it is very frustrating.  Could you please fix this problem please?

Can you tell us when or a time span  ? Next month, this year, next year ?

After the last patch, i was hopeless. But i'm a little bit stupid, because i have a little hope for the next patch.
The joke... I said this after the 1st, 2nd and 3 rd patch .
Please lozzy, give me a Signal that i can have a realistisch hope for a good new patch.

The next PC patch is almost ready to send out, few things to tie up with timing, once that is out we'll have a better idea on timing for the console patches (frees up the shared resources).

EDIT: I should probably make a new thread about yesterday's meeting, will see if I can find the time to write it up but not a huge amount of new info came out of it.

Hi @Dnote - you are saying the new PC patch is about to be sent out, but @Lozzy just posted to say they only just managed to replicate one of the primary multiplayer issues this morning, and it hasn't even been sent to the coders to look at.  We were led to believe the next PC patch would address multiplayer, so you seem to be contradicting each other to some degree.
