Dirt Rally 0.8 Update stuttering (Wrong WorkMapfile)

Recommended Posts

Yes there are three. A) is BAD,...makes the game unplayable. B) can cause an exit to desktop, C) allows us to at least enjoy our daily fix of DR :)
The internet connection was my next test,...did not make a difference,....I can still detect very small pauses more like 4 to 5 seconds apart in Monaco. Which tells me it's not the stages but overall game pausing. Also visible in the scrolling text before launching a stage.

@MrJamieLowes

Interesting, I think I get B.  Had it a few times half way through a daily stage lately.
Any testing you'd like me to do?

There are three 'stutters' as I see it:

A - Periodic, (every 1-2 seconds) microstutter.
B - Weird timewarp that comes and goes.
C - General framerate issues.

For people experiencing A - microstutter, could you please try running the game with no internet connection?

I've also seen the game do weird things — on my home computer — after an update, and pick the wrong refresh rate. Please try changing resolution, then revert back to your preferred resolution and refresh rate - and report back if that fixes anything.

Keep the feedback coming, and we'll keep looking into it.
And mine, which is framedrops every 7-12 seconds, and is the same no matter if I play the game on all the lowest or all the highest settings.

I have type A stutters, also in menus. I have tried every workaround posted here.
Change the hardware config file - No change
Re calibrate the wheel - No change
Re calibrate and restart- No change
Run the game off line - No change
Unplug my wheel - fixed immediately even in the middle of a stage.

Yes I'm plugged into a USB3. No, don't have a USB2 to troubleshoot with.

In 0.7 and previous I used to have an input lag but it turned into this stutter with the 0.8 update.

@F2CMaDMaXX - Not for the moment.

@Myrvold - Does this happen on the main menu, or just when racing.

I forgot to mention, A - Periodic Microstutter appears in the menus too, not just in the race.
That menu smoothness was lost two updates ago, so I guess with the .7 update.

Let me know if you need anything for the other stutter.

While the FPS also drops every 12-15 second in the menus, it's just from 60 to 59, so that might just be the vsync doing it's thing.

Not sure if that answer helped anything though.

Some folks posted on Steam bug thread that going back one video driver version before Nvidia Experience and the other cured his stutter by upgrading to windows 10 ?!:(

@MrJamieLowes did some testing, fixed the workerMap thing, but no difference in game. It still stutters just as much!
A full list of my PC specs here:
MoBo: ASUS X99-Pro
CPU: I7-5820K, 6-core 3,3ghz. Corsair H55 Watercooled.
GPU: ASUS GTX 980 Strix
GPU: ASUS GTX 980 Strix
RAM: Crucial DDR4 2133 MHz 16GB
SSD: Intel 530 Series 120GB
SSD: Crucial M4 128 GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 2TB
HDD: Western Digital Desktop Green 2TB

System innstalled on the Intel SSD, game on the Barracuda HDD.

What's intersting is that I get that framedrop/stutter issue no matter if I run 1024x768 and everything on low and overclocking my system, or 3840x2160, everything on highest settings and underclocked system. It is exactly the same!

I have already upgraded to Windows 10 which did fix the fullscreen bug for me. However it was then promptly used as an excuse by the tech assist guys at codemasters who completely dismissed me since Windows 10 isn't supported.

On rolling back drivers I'm not entirely sure which version could do that for me. Am running a 900M series on a Windows 10. Not sure there is a driver version without Experience. Do you have any link?

For me it seems that there is something really broken with the way the game interfaces with USB3 ports. Would be really awesome if someone could look into that instead of just acknowledging that people have problems with those.

Did you modify the content of the "hardware_settings_restrictions.xml"
As your CPU is 6 core you should set "system/workerMap6Core.xml" between lines...

I can confirm the microstuttering with my Logitech G29 Wheel. If I disconnect it, the game runs fine.
Reconnect the wheel, the stuttering is back.
OS Windows 10.
