General setup questions from a Forza transplant

Recommended Posts

Since I can't afford an xbox one at the moment, I picked up F1 2012 cheap on pc and have about 45 hours in so far with the old Microsoft xbox360 wheel/pedals.

I now have all assists off, and I'm midway through the season on Pro difficulty, improving steadily.  I've started messing with setups, but noticed that there doesn't seem to be a separate race and qualifying setup, and in Q3 I think it restricted what I could even change.  Do you have to work on a qual setup, then change it before Q3 finishes since you can't change anything pre-race other than front wing?

For example, I'm at Singapore, qualified 3rd with a low 1:46, but then in the race I start spinning in nearly every corner after about lap 3.  No tire noise or any warning, the rear end just decides to pass the front.  I had brake bias at 46 or 47% front, tried dialing it back to 48% and that seemed to help a bit, reducing front wing from 4 to 1 also helped slightly.  I even tried turning simulation damage off just to see if that removed tire wear to help me get through the race without crashing, but still barely held 9th due to the car being so unpredictable.

What's the strategy for tuning for a full race weekend, and what's the most likely cause of frequent end-arounds at Singapore?

Thanks.

In Formula 1 your setup is locked once you've gone out on track in qualifying apart from a few small things you're allowed to change like front wing angle. If you don't want this (although it is realistic) you can turn parc ferme off. You could try making the rear suspension softer.

turn parc ferme off.I know its not realistic, but I have found that that for me the physics of the 2012 makes it better for you to enjoy the game if you turn it off and use a different set up.By physics in 2012 there was no "catching the car buy a jerk of the wheel like in 2013.It almost felt that once you started a slide,it would just keep sliding no matter how many times you tried to catch it with the wheel.

I'm not sure I even saw parc ferme in the options menu, but now that I know what it means, I'll definitely do that.  I can understand it's purpose in real life, but as a complete novice it is just annoying.

I did grab 2013 on xbox360, maybe it was free with gold?  I tested it briefly to see the difference the force feedback added, but it's so much better looking on PC.

On to Suzuka to see if being able to tune actually helps. :)

I can't find that option in F1 2012, did they add a Parc Ferme toggle in F1 2013?

Edit: Ah, patch notes imply it was added late as an option for online and co-op but not for career.

you may have to restart your career to turn it off is my guess,I know the option to turn it off is in the main screen difficulty screen before you pick you race.

I see.  I guess I'll suck it up and play by the rules for the rest of this season, just do more testing in practice first.
